Working Hard On (no pun intended) wise, beating CoD4 on the hardest difficulty - its actually hard. Competition wise, I am trying to sharpen my skills and competency in TF2 so I can somehow get in a CAL-O team.

To the last 10 posts about competition/smack talk/arrogance - Its all human nature. People will complain "wtf exploitz" or "cheap bastard", well, unless there are rules dictating, I rather use whatever it takes to take down someone. It might be dirty, but if he or she don't know how to counter it, they deserved to get owned. Smack talk is a double edge sword: it can be a good motivator to make someone push him or her competitive, or it can lead to low-level insults. Terrible players will be identified and laughed at or encouraged to improve, good players will be noticed, praised, envied or harassed. Good sportsmanship, regardless of the situlation, will put you higher than any smack talking person that thinks he or she knows it but lying to hide it.

I have no problems saying someone sucks but I back it up and prove it. Its the whole attitude thing that will get into people's heads and make them be hated by everyone.

Go get 21. The unexpected happened. I don't even want to spoiler this.

When I heard this from a friend I laughed and said "that has to be a from the daily show, right?" I went on Yahoo and after seeing that, I'm quite offended. What happened to good parenting and just simply say "No son, I don't want to buy this for you because I think its not appropriate for you?" When I was a teen, my mother told me "despite you playing video games far too much, its better than drugs" and I have to agree. That video is a case of media over-sensationalism (aka overreaction) and an attempt to appeal to uninformed people about something bad in a biased point of view.

Sure, underage sex/alcohol/drugs has its negative effects (and positive), but video game violence topping all those? I tried just about everything that's supposedly bad and I don't see it. Ok I lie drugs is 90% bad but that's not my point: What happened to good parenting and teaching their children on how to handle the real world?

I fear for our current and future children. I already seen the start of it from the graduating classes of 2004 and it only got worse I think. FYI, I graduated high school back in 2002.

Episode 18 - Oh uh...

Quote from: Spoiler

In a nut shell:

I don't know where to start naming people that have died. Now we have a really pissed off (and gone insane) Lelouch.

Another thing: why's the Emperor near the battlefield?

I've been following Code Geass ever since a friend told me "watch this!" and I'm surprised I ignored this. I've been following this since Season 2 started (right when I watched all of season 1 in like 3 days).

But uh, epi 14 is out and if you still got some questions from the last one, go see it. I'm shutting my mouth now - all I'm gonna say is, epi 14 = a very big setup episode in a sense.

(I probably would of been better off spoiler tagging the real answer, but how do you do that?)

http://www.steampowered.com/pyro/ if anyone hasn't looked at the unlocks. Also, in addition to this pryo patch, the standard flamethrower is getting this:

QuoteIn addition to the three unlockable Pyro weapons, we've made a significant addition to the base Pyro flamethrower. By hitting the alt-fire key, the Pyro is able to produce a blast of compressed air that knocks enemies away, and redirects enemy projectiles. It's a highly versatile tool, allowing Pyros to get away from nearby enemies after igniting them, to kill enemy soldiers with their own rockets, or to separate enemy Medics from their healing targets. In particular, it allows a skilled Pyro to contain an enemy invulnerability push, and even to separate the Medic completely if the surrounding terrain supports it.

RIP my Soldier D:

if pc gaming returns for next year, a few suggestions:

TF2
Left 4 Dead
Call of Duty 4
Starcraft 2
The Crossing (if it is out by then)

For the moment, lets say PC Gaming comes back. Depending on the PC equipment we get, I was actually thinking the same list of games I can suggest to the E-Gaming head. My list was gonna be: CoD4, TF2, Starcraft 2 (If its out), UT3, and maybe C&C3 and/or a Battlefield Game. Being a PC Gamer myself, I know what's up =)

If there was a PC requirement, I would guess minimum dual core CPU, 2GB ram, nvidia 8xxx /ATI 2xxx or better, and WinXP or Vista. I know it sounds rather high, but it would be good to strive for 35-45 FPS with decently good looking settings.

But that's if the PC section is back... :D

Before I begin, I did find the equipment liablity forms we did use during 2006/2007 and be willing to give that to you guys.

I just looked at the OP/first post of the thread and holy *censor*, let me help you organize this. Anything in a "( }" is my commentary/recommendations:

QuoteGeneral

-Lockboxes (Didnt you have a idea for this?)
-More console systems, esp XBox360's/Wii's (Retro's one thing, new stuff is a another)
-A Printer (why tho?)
-Budget (Usually thats a internal matter)
-Signup sheets for tournaments (Wait WHAT? You didn't to do this ;_; )
-COPMUTERS! (You mean a PC section?)
-Waver documents for staff AND Con. people. (You mean the under-18/minor waiver thing? easily acquireable)
-Mutiple department heads (Actually in the FanimeCon staff world, it goes Department Head/Manager->Assistant Department Head/Assist.Manager->Staffer. I don't think you can have more than 2 leaders, but you can setup a team/section for say...PC section, Console section, Tournament. I can go into details if you wish via AIM)
-Password protected Laptop (Demand it inf act)
-Better TV's (Unless FanimeCon can somehow afford HDTV's and in a huge Volume or get a sponsor, that'll be hard to do. 720p or even 1080p on the next-gen consoles would be sexy...)

E-Gaming related logistics/supply

-WTB Power Strips
-Labeling Supplies (though, I thought you got blue tape?)
-Controllers, esp for the N64/Gamecube + batteries
-Master Memory Card for Saves (We did that for our years and it helps)
-Printed version of game inventory (It ended up in a binder of a written inventory)
-A written list of everyone belongings (see last entry)
-More moded systems. (Do realize that these systems do have a slightly higher breakdown chance)
-More Sharpies and pens (Logistics Request type of thing; I just brought my own out of habit)

Tournaments

-Tournament bracket software (You don't need it personally...there are brackets pre-made out there on the internet, use Google)
-Trained/informed tournament organizers (If a certain person comes back, he can help ya)
-More than ONE tourny operators (Oh we learned hardcore of using just one person. Get a Tournament Coordination Team)
-Halo Tourny...Cancelled Every Time (In 2007, we found out no one brought a copy, dont blame me! In 2008, idk what happened)
-Projector for the BIG tournys. (Tricky one to do. Contact me on this one...)
-Check badage numbers for FINALIST'S (Do this for all tournaments and all participants; Msg me for a detailed answer)

Other

-Better sponsors (I hear its being worked on...)
-More reliable staffers (in my time, we strived to be in contact with everyone and required them to appear at a meeting once a month, and then the critical meetings.)
-During shut down time, you need more than one person running Inventory. (Duh!)
-Vol's when you need the help (edited to be professional; Dept head should request a certain amount dedicated if short on staff)
-Outside gamer table (What do you mean?)
-Make sure the arcade is separated from the computers. (In all the years I've done it, its been that way.)
-Better people watching the door (Door duty sucks. Long story short I ended up using Vol's and sometimes a Staffer for this.)
-Check badge numbers for FINALIST'S (not including the people we let in)
-E-Gaming Manual
-Better set up of info desk (In 2006 we developed this concept. There's ways to evolve this even more.)
-Poker for staff during shut down (For sanity's sake yes and even during the 'Con when it seems a little dead)
-Staff food and water/drinks (During the last set of meetings, coordinate this with your staff to pitch in 10-20 bucks so you're supplied for the 'Con. Do use mainly water but a bit of soda. That Exhibit hall can dehydrate you rather fast so take that as a factor)
-Fog Horn (Rofl)

Any better?

Quote from: TehGrandPa on May 28, 2008, 05:33:31 PMthat's very interesting to know about the console gaming. i ididn't really think much of the management of the consoles.

but as for the computer gaming. the thought of a loan would be absolutely ridiculous. not to mention how much you would have to pay to get a public license for every game that you purchase for the pc's. the way i was thinking was that we could get those that do have pc's gathered in a designated area to have them play games that other people might have. so basically just this LAN environment of which con won't have to get computers. it would only designate it to those who do have one or a laptop.

and just by thinking about it this way. hmmm.... it might not be much of a fanime if there is LAN gaming. it would just separate the pc gaming nerds with people devoted to fanime. i might have to re-think this

I have seen in the previous years, people with laptops that would hook them up or connect to an online server and play that way. Having a table for laptops would be a great idea though, but I have no idea what would be involved (legally or in terms of convention rules, etc.).

I wouldn't be worried about the licenses, because there are some games that allow you to enter in a 'dummy' CD Key that doesn't let you play online, but enables LAN play. But yes, having people loan us their thousand dollar computers wouldn't be a good idea. :P

Do realize, at least from the time I was a staffer myself, from 2002-2007, a good number of the staffers did loan our their personal gaming PC's for use at the 'Con and over the years, we slowly perfected the process. We understood what could happened and at the end, we got lucky (too lucky personally). We also did not hook up any PC, with the exception of a laptop for drivers/patches/emergencies, to the internet, as that can pose a security risk to the systems at the time and we wanted to keep it to a LAN game setup so people can play with/against each other with almost no lag.

I am under consideration to come back to E-Gaming staff to help rebuild a PC section, if my time allows it. I'm not laying any promises down, but its in my thoughts. I'll leave it at that and add more in a future post if need be.

Hey, I am under strong consideration of coming back to E-Gaming and if that happens, I'll do what I can to help them to get a PC section back.

Keep in mind there is no release date for Starcraft II, as Blizzard is notorious for "its done when its done" to keep up their standard of work, barring World of Warcraft because of its common updates.

UT3 (or UT2007) is coming out definately in November (barring any last minute problems). There's also Gears of War PC Edition for the PC that is supposed to be out rather soon.

Game discussion is good, the problem is the calibur of equipment to run these games rather reasonable is a high one at times. 99% of the PC's you guys saw in previous years were in-house staff loans but those computers are getting old. I know sooner or later E-Gaming 2008 will be making requests for assistance in this area, or I think they will.
#35
I fail at announcements. This is an authorized thread and yes, I have stepped down (as did the department head as well), as I am taking a vacation and taking care of some personal stuff.

Anyways...Generally, what E-Gaming staff does is a couple of basic things:

1) Watch and maintain all PC and Console equipment
2) Make and assist with tournaments
3) Have a good time too.

Thats generalized description of what a typical E-Gaming staffer does. We also had dedicated PC techs that we knew maintaining the PC's as well and thats usually self-explanatory. Consoles are generally easier to setup and maintain, but watching them is a fun story =)

Gaming / Soul Calibur IV video
June 21, 2007, 02:47:31 PM
Quote from: "Makou"I hope they leave Nightmare's play style somewhat the same. I prefer its risky nature over Siegfried's.

Since this is on the PS3, I don't know if I'm going to play it. $599 is a bit too steep for me.

Its going to be on the X360 as well last I heard, which is a good thing as a alternative.

Gaming / Dance Dance Immolation - DDR on fire eh?

DDR with a hot twist! (nothing dirty, more like something burning!)

The crazy part is, it looks like a weekly think. Not for the weak of heart or paranoid of flames though!

I dont know how lucky I was, but at first I booked my hotel at the Fairmont, but at the literal last second, 4 days before the con I was able to book at the Hilton for the cheap price, ended up upgrading due to 3 of my staffers needed a room badly, but it was all good.

I checked in at 12pm and I scored a 3rd floor slot. Yes, a 3rd floor slot that was also close to the stairs just in case the elevators were full. The same usual good service as also a longtime hilton visitor, but aside from saturday morning not having any toothpaste despite a request that never made it until 8 hours later, I enjoyed it.

I love being staff, but I still want to enjoy the 'con too, so my perspective on the con experience:

  • I felt disappointed in the dealers room. Normally on the first day when I "sneak out" of the gaming room I look for stuff for myself and my little sister when I come back home. After I took a few rounds of walking around, with the exception of "WTF a M-249 bb gun? woah!" and the Gundam Models vendor (practically), nothing just stood out. It was not until Sunday and Monday that I decided to pick up a token gundam model and a few manga books for my sister from a vendor offering a deal on them.

  • I thought the program guides were so popular that the 'con did run out, only to hear later there were none on site. There's the online version, but as a avid collector of 'con program guides, I felt sad. If there was a version out for even "sale" or handout next year, I'll take one for memory's sake. I hope this can be avoided next year.

  • This is just me, but I felt the panels seemed a bit improved. I noticed a few from last year weren't continued but i'll assume its for good reason, scheduling issues or god knows what. I was hoping to see that "How to talk to women" panel or something like that from 2006 so I can offer some help. Other than that, I would like to see a web comic panel next year, if its possible.

  • The Maid Cafe: every time I took my break to check it out, that line was just nuts. Expand it I say!

  • The hug signs: a great concept, an execution that went terribly wrong at the end. At some point I had to pull my open-button over shirt to flash my staff badge to kinda give people a sign "please dont". I'll hug people when I want and I did a few times, but not when its aggressive.

  • Artist alley was once again kick ass, but because of this year's work schedule, I didn't get a chance to see it much.

  • I'll be biased, but putting tabletop in there with arcades and E-Gaming was a good idea. I also think it is time that we need to introduce some sort of handhelds area (a la what tabletop did, but in a designated area), as I noticed alot of players with DS's and PSP's sitting along the wall playing with others.
Overall a average con, but not the best. Still plenty of room to improve indeed.

I'll forward this to our staff and we'll see if we found anything. I know alot of stuff was in the end left behind but when I left site, anything valuable is at first kept by us just in case.
