Got the iOS app and it looks great guys! However, it doesn't look like the schedule is updated yet?

Anime schedule was weird.  Absolutely everything interesting was shown in the early morning (like 8 am or earlier).  I realize that's my preference and whatnot, but yeah... that was strange.  We actually ended up watching NO anime (at the con) this year due to weird scheduling.  Watched anime instead in our hotel room.

Bishie bingo attendees don't know wtf a chair is for, i.e.: you SIT in it so that people BEHIND YOU can SEE.  If you're a 6' guy, why the fuck do you need to stand on a chair?  Also they created a fire hazard by rushing the center aisle.  Everyone was standing on a chair, which made seeing the front impossible.  Ended up yanking a chair off the end and dragging it to the side aisle because I couldn't see a damn thing.  It would help if the strippers had a stage to stand on.  They did this one year; I'm not sure why they stopped.

IAWTC. Our group barely saw anything because most of what we wanted to see was waaaay early. But yeah, I guess that's just a preference thing and not really something that can be changed.

We ended up sitting in the way back during Yaoi Bingo and yeah, we couldn't see any of the action because of so many people standing. I'd never attended before, and found the whole thing rather weird. The announcer lady seemed very harried and kind of mean to attendees, and since we couldn't see anything it kind of eliminated the whole point of attending in the first place.

I completely agree. The anime schedule seemed a little weird to me too. Several popular shows (Mushishi and Hell Girl form what I remember) were scheduled for Monday afternoon when many of the attendees were either trying to check-out of their hotel rooms or gone.

And yaoi-bingo needs either a stage or a camera that can project onto the screen. Once the place fills up it's impossible to see anything unless you're in the first 5 rows. Either that or they need to prevent people from rushing into the asile or standing on the chairs; it's really inconsiderate to the rest of the audience.

From the sounds f it, not to many people are happy with the Marriot, but more so with the Hilton. I want to hear more feed back on the Sainte Claire. It was great overall...just a bit iffy about staying at a renovated hotel come next year. I have seen some of the horrors that can happen at a hotel that was recently renovated. I wonder when the Hilton is going to decide to go through with the renovation.

My friends and I have stayed at the Sainte Claire for the last 4 years and love it. There's free wi-fi, fridges in every room, and the TV has hook ups for video game systems and computers. The rooms are of a nice size for 4 people to share, and the bathroom is of a good size too. We like being slightly away from the insanity of the con and the hotels attached to the con, but the Sainte Claire is close enough for us to walk to the convention at all times day or night. We have always had good service and only had problems once with noise. For 3 nights with parking, with 4 of us sharing the room, the cost came out to $93 a person.

Wait, the plastic cover was for security purposes? I took my badge out and just clipped it to the lanyard Friday night and left it that way all weekend. No one said anything to me. Ooops.... :-X

The Sainte Claire was great as always. We got into our room right away and had no problems the entire weekend. The free wi-fi and the tv hook ups were great. No problems with noise or crazy elevator people either. And with 4 of us in the room (each sharing a double bed) it came out to $93 each for the whole weekend (with parking and taxes). We'll definitely be there again next year.

Leaving tomorrow morning. Should be in San Jose by noon (if all goes to plan, which it never does).

Dealers Room / Dealer's room opening time
May 22, 2008, 02:41:40 PM
Did the Dealer's room always open so late on Friday? The schedule says it's not open until 2pm, and for some reason that seems to be later than in past years (of course I could be completely wrong). Just wondering what was up.

Hotness! I can't wait!!!  ;D

I hope these will be playing during fanime. They ROCK!

Parking: yes the convention center has parking and last time I checked it was $10 per day, with no in-out privilages. So if you leave the lot, you have to re-pay to go back in even if it's the same day.

If you're staying at a hotel, some have lots, others have valet. If you look up the hotel info on the main page, there were prices listed for the hotel parking (most were $10-20 with in-out privilages).

Yeah for the reg staff!

I'm hoping there are some similar boxes around with the progams in them?

I don't think you'll have to worry about the program guides this year.

YEAH!!! :D

Registration / Re: What do i print out

I don't think they will be sending out an email, but there should be a post on the main website. Then you log into your account and print out  the card with the information on it.

You may want to try contacting some of the people in this thread that are coming from SoCal
http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,9556.0.html

Also, there's a thread hotel forum about finding roommates. There are still a few people that have spaces open. You should try contacting some people there.

No kidding. In past years I thought I was being anal booking a room in December as soon as housing opened up, but this year I'm glad I did!

Some people also dress in traditional Japanese clothing, like kimono or hakama. I myself plan to but a yukata at con and wear it one day. You'll also find people wearing all sort of shirts with geeky things on them, mostly relating to anime, but other things as well.

Alright, since it does seem theres some interest here, anyone know where I would go to contanct someone from Fanime, to ask about something for next year? I would really like to see a yuri room for people who dont want to (or cant) see the 18+ movies.

You might want to contact either the otaku god (Jerry) or theotakuapprentice since they seem to be running the video stuff (at least on the boards) and apprentice is looking after the hentai room.

Personally, I would like to see some 18+ yaoi and yuri. The last convention I went to had a yaoi showing and it was lame. A cute story, but oh so lame for there was no real action, just heavy hints..

Hence why I wonder where all of these people who insist " OMG11! It's not fair!! Theres SOO much yaoi EVERYWHERE and NO yuri!!1" have been living that they've never seen any AXE/TAG, Girls gone wild/sports/bottled water/Copic marker/billboards/magazine/radio show/ general media advertisement, and OH YEA ANIME and the majority of the merchandise/advertising of the booths at anime conventions.

What the hell do you want? Live hardcore lesbian action in publci everwheyre you go ( not like where far off) ..and don't answer.

You can go anywhere and find girl on girl action but oh noes! I have the knowledge's that yaoi which I could easily ignore is in my general vicinity one weekend a year. it's not fair that I should have to have knowledge of it's existance!!

The REASON why the yuri is 18+ and the yaoi isnt, is because the so called 'yaoi' is only shonen ai which tends to be just childish, suggesting and innuendoes. ( Kyoh Kara Maoh, or whatever the hell it's called, anyone?

As far as it being 'unfair your a minor, that's he rules. Deal.

I didn't think he was implying that, to be honest. But uh... anyways, the only reason why yaoi/BL has more of a variety shown in terms of rating is because yaoi is more popular and on higher demand at anime conventions. They're not all 'cutesy' and 'childish'-- it's just that the more popular series that are shown tend to be that way. Personally, I have no taste for Yaoi, but I've seen many titles that are lighthearted and those that are very serious and MANLY. With lesbian anime, they have less of a variety, but a variety nonetheless.

Here are a few series I can think off the top of my head with PG lesbianism: Mariasama ga Miteru, Kannazuki no Miko, Mai-Hime/Otome, Kashimashi, Blue Drop, Strawberry Panic, El Cazador de la Bruja, Girl's Life, Simoun, Steel Angel Kurumi, Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito, blah blah blah.

They're all okay for underaged people to watch, legally. Yuri rooms are barely being managed though. They're not nearly as organized in comparison to the Yaoi showings. They basically just ask someone, "Hey. Can you take care of the Yuri room? No one else is doing it." and that's that. I don't really care, though- I'm not attending either. But uh, hopefully that helps someone amirite.

Oh Simoun would be a really good one to show too! The DVDs have gotten good reviews so far and I'm interested in watching it. It's too bad that the yuri rooms aren't getting much attention. Perhaps next year, if enough people ask about it, they can do some more planning in advance.

This post makes absolutely no sense.  First, the person you quoted is not a minor and can see 18+ yaoi/yuri if they wanted to.  Second, the OP (who is not the person you quoted) asked to be able to see 13+ yuri, which is a perfectly valid request if there's 13+/18+ yaoi nights and only 18+ yuri nights.

I know they are not a minor. I was quoting them because I agree with them because all the 'yaoi' that is shown is usually stupid and cutsey. Aside from that, it was a general rant. Not really pointed at anyone in particular.

The point of this thread is not to discuss your opinion on the yaoi that was shown, I assume, at last year's convention. There is already a thread for that called "better yaoi" where it was explained that the person in charge was sick and so they had to play what was on hand.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with playing various types of yaoi. Some people enjoy yaoi but perfer not to watch the explicit variety. There are many good yaoi that are both "cute" and "hard core." That's the point of having 2 different nights. I think it is perfectly reasonable to ask for a yuri night that also shows lower rated yuri. This is an anime convention and if there is anime that enough people are interested in, then it's great if Fanime can show it. Just because there is "lesbian action" everywhere in the real world, doesn't mean they can't show both yaoi and yuri at the convention and it doesn't mean that they should only show 18+ shows when there are so many good shows that are for people 13 or 16+.

Kanazuki no Miko Is also Yuri and has no nudity. I think that oen would actually be a very good one to show that the under aged fans could watch. It's even better then Kashimashi in my opinion. But that may just becuase there's mecha and fighting and mikos in it. ^^

I'm really pulling for them to show Junjou Romantica. There are sex scenes, just no nudity.

Last year with the person who was in charge of the yaoi/yuri got sick, so they had to show what was on hand. Hopefully this year things will be better.
