One of regular attendees pointed out that we've never before shown any of the City Hunter anime movies, so we're showing Secret Service which has both secrets and service. We'll have some fun shows like Ninja Nonsense and Kamichu! along with the conclusion of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex!

General Anime Chat / NEW ANIME CLUB!!
November 05, 2006, 08:35:00 PM
Quote from: "ced1106"I'd check the No Name and other local anime clubs as to which anime they've already shown. I know ex-Driver and GITS SAC have been shown.

If you think your audience cares, what No-Name Anime has shown is memorialized at http://www.nnanime.com/flyers/

I posted something on the other thread http://forums.fanime.com/viewtopic.php?t=5808 too...  Good luck!

No-Name Anime thanks the Santa Clara Library for co-sponsoring the program!
http://www.library.ci.santa-clara.ca.us/calendar/adult/adult-calendar.html http://www.library.ci.santa-clara.ca.us/TeenNet/programs/programs.htm

I think some of these shows, for example Ninja Nonsense, are a lot more fun to watch with a big group. So I'll hope you will come if I just ask nicely instead having to send invisible ninjas to hunt you down!

People who attended last months meeting know that due to technical difficulties we didn't have copies of the newsletter for everybody. There's now a PDF version you can download from //www.nnanime.com. Since we normally make people show up in person to get our newsletter, this is the big chance for people who've never been to one of our meetings to check out our newsletter.

Our July meeting is Saturday, July 8, at the Saratoga Library and features a full length Detective Conan movie and the start of KamiChu!  Please join us!

It's probably painfully obvious based on my signature that I led the Anime Club Panel at Fanime2k5 and I'm darn proud of it. I sent a wishy washy message about doing it again for last Fanime because I didn't want to monopolize it if someone else wanted to do it. Then nothing happened.

If anyone is interested in organizing a panel for 2007 and wants to hear about what I did and my biased recollections about what the panels for 02-04 did or wants my assistance in some other way, please ask.

It's a little soon for me to know if I'd be interested in leading a panel again, but if no one else grabs it, I might...

If you ever wanted to do an activity with all the San Jose High School anime clubs, you might  want to see if you could get any help from the San Jose City Librarian who does anime and manga things. If you haven't met her (she attended Fanime2k5, I'm not sure if she was there this year), I can put you in touch. I don't know if your schools all have at least one teacher who's into anime or manga, but if not, at least in the Bay Area, most of libraries seem to have at least one teen/youth/young adult librarian who is.

Some of the No-Name Staff are going to see Alice Shikina's Okinawa 1945 play http://www.threewisemonkeys.org/ at Theatre of Yugen http://www.theatreofyugen.org/nohspace.html on Saturday (June 16).  One of the actresses is a former Fanime staffer. The play runs through June 25.

Another place to find some of the No-Name staff will be at the Preservation Hall Jazz Band Concert at Stanford on Monday, July 3rd http://livelyarts.stanford.edu/event.php?code=JUL3

Unlike regular No-Name showings, neither of these events are free. But we'd be happy to see any No-Name/Fanime friends who can join us!

If you are really interested in doing more than just showing anime, I have some suggestions at http://www.es3.us/clubs/suggest.php . But I'd suggest stating out simple, figure out how to do one thing at a time well and don't set expectations too high.

If there isn't an anime loving teacher at your school, you might seek out the teen librarian at the city or county library nearest you.

Funimation has a good page on the "traditional" way to make an anime club: http://www.operationanime.com/Main/dsp_starter_kit.htm

ADVfilms has program where they send a sampler DVD and glossy brouchures to qualifying clubs: http://www.advfilms.com/advocatesnew/index.asp

I've been buying from http://www.animeonestop.com/ -- they used to be part of Digital Eyes, recently they digital eyes merged with DVD planet http://www.dvdplanet.com .

Old-timers from the San Jose area might remember when Laserland was a cool place to buy anime.

General Anime Chat / No-Name at Saratoga
March 03, 2006, 09:22:33 AM
Quote from: "gmontem"Just noticed the meeting's at Saratoga Library.  What's that one like compared to the Santa Theresa?  I only attended their Feb 16, 2002 meeting.

The Saratoga Library has a nice community room.  We now have a bigger screen, a better projector and in the last two months we've figured out where to put it at Saratoga so the subtitles are relatively high compared to people sitting in front.

From the staff's point of view, when Santa Theresa changed from $10/afternoon to $35/hour, it became too expensive for every month. Saratoga is still $10/afternoon. We go back to Santa Theresa sometimes if we can't get the room in Saratoga.

QuoteEdit: I just checked out the staff page. Is it just me or has it not been updated in at least 4 years? XD

People have to come to the showings, get our newsletter and read "Staff Picks" to keep up with our current obsessions!

Chloe has updated post #1 with details about this month's meeting which features an InuYasha movie that hasn't been released domestically yet.

Quote from: "Chloe"You better make it Mattie-Wattie or else I'll beat you up. >wO
So we don't have any more regretable incidents , I hope not just Spiritsnare but also all the locals on this board can make the March showing.

Quote from: "~~Loktera~~"OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!! I suddenly wish I had my Howl Cosplay ready for this...

Now I'm going to have nightmares about Loktera in an aluminized suit, flammable liquid, a match and explaining to the head librarian "He was just cosplaying Calcifer -- we didn't know it was against library rules"
