Hmm alrighty, thanks for the feedback. Definitely understood that metal wasnt allowed (my prop would be of wood/PVC) so I'm mot worried about that. Just was afraid I wouldn't be allowed to take the prop out at all. :)

Hullo ! Just a quick question. After scrutinizing the prop rules on the '12 site, I was wondering if, when a weapon is peace bonded, it is still allowed to be 'brandished' for photos, etc ? The rules did mention no waving things around (which totally makes sense xD), but does posing with a prop weapon fall into that category ?

Specifically I'm looking to have a prop rapier-type sword in a scabbard, and yes, walking around it will be sheathed, but for photos, is it allowed to be taken out or does it have to remain stowed away at all times whilst at the con ?

Thanks for the help. :) Never carried a prop before at con so I want to be clear.

To the people staying in room 446 at the Fairmont: I forgot to get all of your guys' contact info! (I think I had too much wine that evening >_<; ) But it was awesome getting to have an improv party (and I'm surprised we managed to figure out your guys' room from across the way!).

But this isn't only for them; this is for all the people late Sunday night at the Fairmont who were having dance parties in their windows! You guys were all awesome! Even for those that just waved a 'hello,' you were awesome too.

But yes, names - I remember Rachael, Evan, Courtney, Danielle, and ... Justin was it? Either way if any of you see this, message me! I hope we can keep in touch, and maybe see each other next Fanime!

(Oh and I was the one in the vkei/aristocrat - Kamijo - cosplay :D Cultural immersion, remember? xD).

Ah, excellent. Merci. :)

Roommate found!

Roommate Wanted:

+ Introduction: Hullo! I'm Kaila, and have two other friends, Favi and Katharine, rooming with me. We're 23, 22, and 21 respectively, all girls. This is maybe our third or so Fanime. We all like to cosplay and are generally just chill people. :)
+ Hotel Information: Fairmont, from Friday to Monday. We unfortunately only managed to snag a room with one bed, however, so you'll probably be sleeping on the floor. The price reflects this.
+ Costs: $70. We'll take the $ upon your arrival, though we'd prefer to keep in contact in the days leading up to Fanime just to make sure you're not gonna flake on us ~
+ Requirements: Girl roommies only, please. No smoking, and drink responsibly. We don't smoke and we may drink, but only a little; nothing excessive or party-tastic. Otherwise, just generally be a respectable normal person and we'll get along fine. No stealing, blowing up the room, etc. xD
+ Contact: I probably won't notice PMs here, so please email me at bonjour_honey(at)live(dot)com, or look me up on Facebook under umbrella.of.glass(at)gmail(dot)com.
+ Miscellaneous: We always hoard snacks and coffee so you're welcome to share; you'll never go hungry with us. :D Katharine also knows all the good (and inexpensive) places in the area to eat; we eat really well (no top ramen or McDonald's diets) and maybe spend $20 a day for all three meals, snacks, and coffee/boba tea/milkshakes/etc. runs. We cosplay, so we do crowd the vanity sometimes, but overall we're quiet roommates who sleep at normal hours and don't have parties, etc. We're also easy to get along with and you're welcome to hang out with us if you want to, but don't worry; we're not expecting to be your best friend if you don't want to. :D

Feel free to email/FB message me with any questions, or if you're interested ~ thanks :D!

If you're asking which between the two is generally less expensive, the Marriott is less expensive than the Fairmont.

Last year my friend showed up at 8 am on Saturday to reg, so 7 am on Friday should (in theory) be all clear 'cause Saturday's a busier day, and she went an hour later than you plan to go. :)

That was what the lady on the phone told me when I rang them in May 2010, so I was just reposting here what I was told. :) No idea if they change it or only apply it to certain persons. *shrug*

Starherd ~ Kaila here; just wanted to check if you've gotten any of my emails at all 'cause I did send a payment/contacted you about three weeks ago. ^^; Don't know where else to try to find you so ... hope you don't mind me butting into your thread like this.

Anyway, pleaaaaase get back to me. Have a ton of (good) updates to tell you. :)

QuoteBut sometimes I really do think some people shouldn't sell their art (especially that girl, I remember some ridiculous sketching and crayola like stuff) and other people with a better quality in art should sell no?

I usually don't like poking my nose into arguments but really, your tone was rather assuming. All artists have to start somewhere, and it definitely takes a lot of courage and effort to showcase your work in the Artist's Alley. As PyronIkari said (and obviously it doesn't apply only to art, but to most everything else), there will always be those who are better than you and those who are worse. All an artist can do is to (hopefully) work on improving one's skills. Part of that process can be setting up shop in the Alley.

On the topic of 'quality level,' art is also subjective (...obviously). The notion of setting a status quo for what level of 'quality' should and should not be allowed is ridiculous.

QuoteSometimes I get dissapointed in the artist alley and *sigh* and tell my friend, really, next time you should do this. ;A;

If you're that disappointed with the AA, show up those other artists and put out your own work. ;P But on that note, those other artists who you might not think are as good as your friend ... well, they're making the effort to put themselves out there. Apparently that's more than your friend has done.

(Sorry I had to jump on this. This ignorant attitude towards less-skilled artists irritates me).

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Your Hotel Stay- 2010
June 02, 2010, 06:45:36 PM
Oh good, so it wasn't just me having problems with the Crowne Plaza.

Hotel: Crowne Plaza, 7th Floor
Good or Bad: ...meh, not so great.
Staying Again: Most likely not.

I feel bad giving the Crowne Plaza a 'meh' opinion since I typically regard customer service as more important than the quality of the facility itself, but the facilities here weren't so great ... even after they'd been renovated, supposedly? *blink*

Anyway, the reception, bellhop, housekeeping, etc. were all very friendly and prompt, so I've no complaints there. It really is only the facility. The elevators were ridiculously slow, and not because they were clogged up with congoers; even at weird off hours the elevators still took a lifetime to arrive. The rooms themselves were okay-sized, but guh, the bathroom...

The bathroom had a heavy sliding door that was hard to lock. Bathtub didn't drain properly; by the end of a shower one would have water up to the ankles. And the faucet water was weird. It left a kind of...slippery almost slimy feeling? I don't know how, maybe something to do with their filtration or whatever? Very strange.

Lastly, I know hotels aren't exactly known for their ability to soundproof their rooms and halls, but the sound...I could hear conversations from people in the hall several doors down. And from outside on the street. It was pretty bad, and I'm not usually sensitive to sound outside.

So overall, great staff, but the hotel itself wasn't that great. I'll definitely be returning to the Fairmont next year; we stayed at the Crowne Plaza this year to avoid Fairmont's deposit charges.

I was sad I missed it as well~ Ended up being ill Sunday morning so I couldn't make it to the picnic. =(

Saw lots of gorgeous Lolitas walking around the con later that day though, haha. x)

Looking for photos of my friend and I ! We were dressed as Kamijo and Hizaki. ^^ That's us in my icon~

Merci à l'avance. =D

Does anybody know where they're from? As in ... do they come from a specific group or fellowship or church in the area, or are they all just random, motivated individuals who do this sort of thing on their free time?

I was just curious, because though I never really bother with them, I found it interesting that when I passed by dressed normally, one of the men noticed the crucifix necklace I always wear and he amicably approached me and struck up a conversation with plenty of 'God bless you's;' it was quite pleasant. But when I passed him again in cosplay (as Kamijo the vamp-o-phile no less !) I instead received disapproving looks and all that jazz.

Funny; I had been under the impression that being non-judgmental was a trait of an ideal Christian. Guh ... hence why I was a bit frustrated, as they really are painting fellow Christians in a bad light. =( Also wondering if any other Christians felt the same...? Not trying to start a deep discussion/derail the thread. x) Just wondering !

Well damn if I'd seen your thread earlier I would have definitely commissioned something. xD

I'll PM you anyway. Definitely interested in future projects. =)

Would definitely be interested in non-BL themed lip balms. =D

I don't know if this is the place to post it, but I just called the Fairmont to ask about their deposit policy, and it is as follows:

If you pay with credit/debit card, the deposit is $100/night on top of the room charge.

If you pay with cash, the deposit is $300 flat on top of the room charge, all expected upfront in cash.

...though it would be helpful since there seemed to be some confusion over it. ^^;

Oh, and in regards to using the same card to check in/pay that you used to reserve via Fanime housing, last year I reserved via Fanime housing with my own debit card, and at check in, my g/f used her credit card to pay. There were no problems there. They didn't even ask for my card that I used to reserve. =D
