Definitely stay at the Fairmont. It's legit. Nice and quiet, not as congested in the elevators, etc. If you don't mind a VERY short walk, it's a great choice.

Pretty much this. Although the price jumped up a fair bit this year. like $280 a night if you look on Fairmonts website. (Hopefully the con goers rate will be the same as last year)

Just how big are the rooms? I usually go w/ a big group. last year we had 6 people in the room, some of us were sleeping on the ground and no one was in the way of each other. we easily could have fit 2-3 more no problem. We've never had any problems there either. It's definitely my first pick of hotels.

I do not recommend room stuffing. It sounds like a fun money-saving idea at first, but it can get really crowded really fast. Last year, I had 10 people in one room. I almost stepped on three of my friends in the middle of the night when I came back to change from my cosplay into something a bit warmer, and not everyone was in the room. My personal recommendation? Limit it to 6. It doesn't matter which hotel you're talking about. More than 6 is a complete nightmare. You're technically only supposed to put four to a room, but I understand that it's easier to split the cost six ways rather than four ways. I'm personally limiting the rooms I'm hosting to 4-5 people, 6 people max.

Valid point. My perspective is we only used the hotel to sleep. no getting cosplay's ready or anything like that. I can see that needing the extra room.

The key word is "Current" military uniforms. those don't look to be current to me. I'm not an authority for the con but as long as you don't have army, usaf, navy, or any other official or unofficial badges with real US government agencies listed on them I would think you'd be fine. Def wait for someone official to give you the a.o.k. just to be safe tho.

My friends and I always stay at the Fairmont, I do not know if we got any special deal as I was not the one who booked the room but we got a Suite for about $700 and it was HUGE, there were 5 of us so it was about $150 per person. Fairmont is pretty luxurious and roomy. This was the first year we got a suit tho because the deluxe room we usually get were full up. Usually the deluxe rooms between 4 people run  about $75 per person, or about $110 per night with a AAA discount.

The "deluxe dbl/dbl" room was more than enough room for 4 people, It has 2 beds, and plenty of room. I slept on the ground w/ a sleeping bag(I'm well over 6 ft tall so I take up a bit of room), and there was still plenty of extra space.

The Suite we had pretty much doubled the size of the Deluxe room so you could cram a fair amount of people in there and not feel crammed at all.

Last year '09, I saw the Double bed room for Marriott and Hilton and thought they were rather small in comparison... although I do not know if either hotel has a bigger double room, and do not believe they were any cheaper than Fairmont... I'm not positive on that tho.

also my friends and I usually book the rooms for 3 nights, Friday-monday (monday checkout)

The earlier you can book the better. We booked rather late this year(not last minute, but late) and HAD to rent a suite, I also believe the prices are lower if you book far in advance.
