I saw a lot of what I would classify as either a mascot, a mecha, or otherwise as a "mega costume" that being large, bold, heavy, complicated things that do not focus on you as a human much if at all.

For example I saw a life size Laputa robot, a "Walking with Dinosaurs Live" style Greymon, and a stilted dragon-n-rider Stormfly, and later after I left it seems a full size Catbus was spotted. I also saw a fair amount of mascot type costumes be it fursuit style Pokemon or big-headed Animal Crossing villagers, Marios and Muppets, oh and then there was that lovely cosplay of 9. And I saw myself quite a bit of mecha this year, namely Gundams.

All of these are costumes that stand out in a crowd and take a lot of dedication to wear, they tend to completely hide you as a human being, and some are really more or less a huge wearable prop or puppet... and all happen to be the kinds of costume that interest me the most.

So I was wondering if there was any sort of interest in a gathering just for these kinds of costumes? It would be a simple gathering, we'd take one big photo of our big costumes and then chat about construction techniques and why we enjoy wearing such large (and often hard to wear) statement costumes.

I know rooms have not opened yet but when I go to the hotel list I see no Thurs-Mon rooms available at the Marriott except for the suites... please tell me this will change before 10am on the 10th :(

Do you have a room with arrival Thursday or Friday with departure Monday that you plan to cancel?
If yes and the room you plan to cancel is at the The Saint Claire, Marriot, Hilton (not the Double Tree Hilton, I got fooled by that) or Hyatt please let me know... if I could have your room it would be a huge life saver.

Heck we MIGHT even settle for the Fairmont...

Marriott or Hilton highly preferred.

my email is [email protected]

PS this room stress is maddening, after living through a life-changing tragedy last year my sister and I were really looking forward to this con more so than ever.... and despite my preparations to be sure this did not happen it happened anyway (I was sitting and waiting 30 minutes early, but thanks to the bum link I did not get a room till 20 minutes late)
This room stress is so not what we needed...

I am arranging a group membership for 7-8 people... I know that there is a parental consent form that the two minors in my group need to bring filled out and singed, thing is do they need to present the forms at the time of badge pickup or can the forms just go with the group leader? If they do have to be present then can I just make one of them the group leader or does the leader have to be over 18?

There is a chance our group leader is gonna be MIA.
If she does not attend the con are all our badges lost with hers? How would we get around this? Bring a photo of her holding her ID card maybe? :/

I am curious as to of why badges are not mailed out to those that pre registered? It certainly would kill a lot of the lines.

If time is the issue (I for one would hate getting them all ready to mail) then hows about having them mailed be optional and cost an extra fee?

If there is some other reason as to why they cannot be mailed, then what is it? Any issue i can think of (such as 1 person paying and taking turns using the badge with some one else) already apply to picking it up in person. Maybe it's an issue of proving age? In that case then could that not be fixed by requiring either a valid ID for any age restricted events or having a line for people to confirm age and get a mark on their badge?

If there was some way to get badges to people via mail that would be awsome since the lines suck :C

I have never done this but I heard you can....I sure hope I can because it would be nice to settle into the room for a break and eat somthing that is not over priced room service or cold from the fridge.

SO
could any of the San Jose locals give me the phone number for the nearest Pizza Hut? X3

Maybe we could make a list here for with contact information for all places that will deliver food to hotel rooms?

I looked through several topics here to see if i could find an answer first before i bothered ya'all with this post (and got some good info on other things) but i still have no idea just how big the fridge is.
i know it is a mini but beyound that?

my sister and I are milkaholics, we will easily go through a gallon in 3 days so we plan to bring a gallon of milk, but will a gallon sized milk jug fit in the fridge? if yess then how many gallons of milk would fit? and no i do not plan to bring more than 1 gallon but the size of the container is a good reference point for me to figure out how many sandwitches and other drinks we can cram in there.

PS in my search for fridge information i heard mention of free breakfast at the hilton...is this true? :3

80% of why i do any event is to run around in costume, i love making costumes and seeing peoples reactions to them.
i am hoping to have a trio of yoshis done in time for fanime for me, my sister and our friend to wear. if not then i have my ryo-oki as back-up if i cannot complete the yoshis.

I have heard that being part of the masquerade can be "slow and painful and often runs late into the night. Pretty hit and miss." and this is my first fanime and i am staying 2 nights so i would much rather not have my time caught up with the masquerade.

so i was wondering if there was some way i/we could pop up on stage early in the show for a quick "whooo ahhhh" from the crowd and then just go about our business. no prejudging, no rehearsal, literally just 20 seconds of music as i/we pop on stage, look cute and leave.

i don't care to win a prize, all i want to do is be sure all the fans of the characters get to enjoy seeing them as that is mainly why i cosplay and i myself LOVE seeing costumes of my favorite characters :)
and i am hoping that us getting to pop out on stage during the masquerade will ensure that any one who would like to see us gets to see us.

if the answer is no then i understand as this request would take time away from those who entered to compete.

I see no rules posted yet and I need to know this ASAP because if I can enter I need to start building the costume soon as it will take a while to get done between commissions:

Is there a rule against professionals?
I have entered and won awards at sac-con/sac-anime, Further Confusion, and the Japan town cherry blossom festival in San Fransisco.
and my primary source of income ins building costumes.
I am self taught and make everything myself.

so I wanted to know if I can enter and if there are any limitations (such as skit-only) or if maybe there is a professional division such as Further Confusion has.

Thank You.
