Registration / Re: Poll: Group Reg (please comment)
November 10, 2008, 03:26:38 PM
im so up for group. reason why is because im taking over 40 kids with me and my club and it would help to get them their badges so we can be more organized. (i mean 40 people not standing in the waiting line sounds good to me)

im just wondering why they took it off in the first place. is it because they can't check id to make sure that the right person recieves it?  ???

How I got those large numbers is from the hotel prices currently and did the math. Price x Number of Nights spent x 2 rooms That's why they are huge. But like I said,  we have to wait for official info on hotel prices from the Fanime main site.

My group doesn't really have to worry about travel payments. Few of the Officer's parents, including my dad, decided to give a lift to San Jose on the condition that we'll pay for the gas: about $20 per car used  (we used only 2 cars holding up to 4 each; only 8 out of 10 people went[my club is small]) And we didn't need to pay for the ride back. Don't forget to say, "Thanks for the ride!" We live in San Leandro so it's only a half hour ride or so. I guess my club is lucky to be so close. It would be better if we we're closer. :P

hmm i c. you guys are lucky. we live far away. (i consider a good hour a long wayz away)

Well, depending on your school, if you try to access money from the student body to help pay for the trip, when you tell them that overnight stays are involved and that it's a club function they'll typically go "Uhhh, no." This is because of the liability that's involved if you attend a convention as a college "Club", thus being representatives and virtually extensions of your school.

Getting the school to pay for your badges, however, is usually way easier. If you break it down by person, if you put 4 people to a room that would be 5 rooms. Each of those 4 people would be paying about 75-100 dollars. If the school offsets the badge price, which is about $50, then the members can put that towards their own hotel rooms. Then you'll only need to raise about 25-50$ per person, or about 500-1000 dollars total between now and May. Or just ask your members to supply it.

I would check with your college though, sometimes they aren't as cautious about the whole hotel room thing. Some schools have waivers and other processes to go through.

Oh, and if you are in a high school club then chances are the student body definitely WOULD NOT pay for your hotel, unless you had faculty/staff supervision. Think about it: would a high school really pay for a bunch of (possibly) co-ed teenagers to stay in a hotel? lol

yea in my case, they wouldn't give any of our club money that we fundraised because its not a school function per say.

hahahaha aren't we doing one?  :D

Happy Birthday!  ;D

You know... with 18 years of age come many responsibilities... but like what you and others have posted before

I don't know. I think I kind of spoiled myself before the whole 18 thing.

1. Porn. I mean really, what teenager actually follows the whole 18+ rule?

2. Cigarettes always readily available as there is a new carton of Mild Sevens every month.

3. Clubbing, I guess. But I already have gone clubbing many a time, already, and it's lost its luster. 18+ clubs are normally really retarded, too.

But I guess there's always being able to sign my own documents, I guess. ww Also, I can't even count how many jobs turned my applications away because I was underage.

I had my 18th birthday about two months ago...
Let's see, my eldest brother took us out to dinner at my favorite Korean place on the weekends.
I had all my friends there....
My other brother bought me a cake... Don't remember what it was called...
My mom flew over from Asia with many gifts. ^^

Not to mention I was eating a lot of desserts until the end of the month...

Haha, that all sounds really cute. It must've been exciting to see your mom come overseas to celebrate your birthday.

hmm... so i was thinking that airfare itself should be around 1000 dollars or less and that I should save enough for my personal things hm.. about another 1000. all in total the MIMIMUM i have to bring is 2000. does anyone think thats a reasonable amount? the most i might stay is three weeks. two would be fine for me. one is not enough.

i did the math to about 40/50 dollars a day times 21 days (3 weeks). i can cut down on food and housing; its just transportation and extra spending cash that im worried about. im not too much of a person that needs to eat three meals a day. i can probably eat once and still be happy. i don't like shopping. if anything id rather just take pictures and video of myself just enjoying where i am. if i get a fandom urge to buy anything, the most i might spend on it is about 100 dollars.

i won't be going that far away from my relatives place. ill stay in tokyo for the entire time and like what pryon's friend said, azabu is fairly central, even if its not close to any fandom. if thats the case then ill probably just take transportation from azabu to wherever i want to go within tokyo. if anything, the tower is probably the only site i want to see that could be far away from me. (i was thinking that a shrine and maybe that fish market might be too far too)

Hi,

Actually, depends on what shrine you want to go to.  If a small one is good enough for you, you can walk to one.  Otherwise, you can take the train for 210 yen from Azabu Juuban to Yoyogi, which has a very large one (Meiji Jingu).  The fish market is only 4 stops away from Azabu Juuban, only 170 yen for the train fare.  Tokyo Tower is only two train stops away for 170 yen.  (Tokyo Tower in addition has an entrance fee which I can't remember the amount of.)  Buses cost 200 yen per ride.   Fandom at Akihabara is farther away (about 30 minutes), but that train ride is also only 190 yen from Roppongi from what I recall.

If you really don't spend any money and eat cheaply, you probably can live three weeks for $1000.  Average wages for new grads out of college here is about $2000 a month, and many of them have rent to pay as well.  However, you may want to carry extra for things you want to pick up, but that's up to you.  Last I checked though, airfare was more than $1000, due to gas prices.

Let me know if you need anything else.

thank you guys again for the info.

wait so the bus fare costs more than the trainfare? and when you mean trainfare... is it like those subway kind of trains (or aboveground kind of trains)?

i think i want to leave about late march to the beginning of april or sometime in between the month of april. i want to get there at just about the right time the cherry blossoms bloom. also i need to get back before fanime happens.  ::)

haha phil this is a good topic... anyways you and me worked this year so lets try that tax refund thing (not really sure how to do it but i do have the turbotax problem in my computor so i guess ill just fiddle with that)

if you want to know what i do... ask joseph lol. i basically act like a bum  :D

i put aside a piggy bank and collect change from everywhere i go and everytime i get the opportunity. i collect right after fanime so assuming i forget about my piggy bank and not use it.. i get around umm 60 to 80 dollars extra spending money. not bad. but then again, it goes towards all my cosplay expenses  :P

i also collect bottles and cans and recycle them (YES IM LIKE A BUM) but it only gets me back less than 20 for the two months i've collected  :P

hello! i seem to know how you're feeling about planning all this stuff. stressful no? i was president of my jpc (japanese pop culture) club in 2007 as a senior and even when i graduated, i still come and help plan out these kind of things with the presidents after me and the members as well. (since they don't have a credit card and i can tell you why having a credit card helps in a bit)

first and foremost, for that many people coming, i suggest that you get them organized by having to sign papers out. i write out permission slips even if its not a school based function just so that their parents know whats going on and whats going to happen. in the end, you don't want to have an upset parent getting mad at you for the money or accidents that can happen over there.

just like what Nyxyin said, the cheapest rooms were about 100 to 110 a night with taxes and things included. that was the hotel across the street from the convention and for the rooms and price they were a good deal for us. i dunno if it will be the same prices again for that hotel. another problem is that, because you're taking a large amount of people, a hotel not connected to the convention could be a problem. it was somewhat of a problem for me because some of my club members had to walk on the streets and if you're taking minors well yea... more issues with that come along.

like what LightandDarkSoul said. it would be a good bargain to get suites in any of the hotels as well. if you divide the cost of the suites by the number of people in that room, your saving money and space. again you have wait till the info for those come up and also you might be in competition for those because alot of people get the suites to save money. i know i will with my group ( i roughly have about 40 people going lol.) ohh and this is where the credit card comes in. in order to get these rooms you must use a credit card or HAVE one in a sense. booking rooms with credit cards is the only way you can reserve them.

I'd like to know if there's anything I should really be looking out for since i'm trying to get roughly 20 people to fanime and into hotel rooms.
We have 500 dollars in our funds, and i've been hearing here and there that old prices were around 200 at the hilton for the weekend (this sounds underpriced). Anyways, my group is fundraising and if anyone can tell me if there are better places maybe than the hilton, or maybe hotels that give discounts for large groups for the weekend. Basically can you tell me anything of importance about moving a large group of people?
You're an Anime Club president? So am I~! Am I to assume that this is your first time taking a group to Fanime?
Anyway, If you're going to take 20 people to Fanime, you need at least 5 rooms or 2-3 suites. But you have to wait until the hotel info is posted on the main site to get definite prices. That won't be for a while.
My anime club is large but only 8 people have the "clear" to go. We're still working on getting funds for hotel rooms. I estimated  $1500 for the whole weekend for two rooms in the marriott. The hilton I'm not sure of. I tried and got $2300 o_o

umm im not sure how your getting your numbers there... can you break it down to me? i roughly estimate that much as well since this is a group of 20 (more or less) people going but again, its up to how you want to break down the number of people in rooms.

ohh and for transportation, i would recommend to you what i do with my group. my group and i rents a charterbus out to pick us up, take our luggage, drop us off and pick us up again. we divide the costs of the charter bus by the number of people (seats) so transportation for each of my members is roughly 20 bucks each. we save money, gas, its safe for a large amount of people and its convient as well.  ;D

i hope this helps, if you have any other questions about all this planning let me know!

hello mr.wendell just rewriting this.. i posted this on teh progamming section under the stage zero fanime con 2008

: for the stage zero operators.

i have experience with live feed video editing and if you want to do shoutouts and other small video shoots i can help with the video shooting as well as hooking up all the wires and stuff like that. i plan to come in as press this year with my equipment. i duno if it might keep me busy from other stuff since i have to video shoot for my own story stuff but after i get that out of the way, im more than willing to help out.

also if i do help do i have to attend staff meetings cause i live far from san jose and it would be hard for me to get there all the time. maybe like four times the most i can stop by.

haha phil she thinks your white lol (he's asian btw) hes just too stupid to cook rice.

I'm a dude, and I could care less that he's not asian. It's just a fact that I am one of the whitest people on this board. According to most people the most asian thing I can do is hold chop sticks properly, and what's sad is that I'm asian....and white too.

opps sorrie i mistook you for a chick. dangit with these usernames lol  :P

eww.... ok that struck a nerve in my system (throws up) ok.. you bake the cake and ill decorate it. not that hard to do lol. lets make it a potluck but then again, people might ask for food if we do it in the public >:(
#299
hmm i guess from our experiences... lets make sure that daniel is not in charge of cooking anything.

ohh and because fanime always falls on my birthday (may 24) i was thinking that we should have a little party for me at fanime anime style. this time, i was thinking of baking a cake and decorating it gurren lagann with a drill candle like i saw in the picture with yoko from the /byo thing. ohh and since im cosplaying nia i should try to make some of her cooking from the nia portraits book i have at home. lol (ill try to make it edible at the least)

WE WILL EAT SOMETHING GOOD THIS FANIME! i promise guys! besides its nia who is cooking lol  ::)

haha phil she thinks your white lol (he's asian btw) hes just too stupid to cook rice.

anyways... DUDE I CAN'T BELIEVE YOUR RANTING OUT ON US ON THIS THREAD. I for one, do not eat like a slop. but then again, no body really knows how we look like lol and yea, i can agree that maybe SOME of our friends really don't care what it looks like before they put it in their mouths. (im probably the only one in america at this time who can cook rice besides lorrina. ohh did you know she signed up on the fourms too?)

anyways, i can't believe you actually posted this. ill bring the rice when we go to fanime this year. ill even bring dry rice and extra water just so we can make it in the hotel room (don't tell the hotel room though)  ;D

gosh...and how did this topic get so popular. you've posted more than me and ive been part of the fourms for about a year now...  ???
