Messages - Kiara

Just Awesome.

I will be in the middle of nowhere with no cell reception on a camp-out Thursday-Sunday. 48 hours is nowhere near enough notice. I've done the swap meet for the last 3 years, the 48 hour announcement is ridiculous.
So excited for Chopped Cosplay! I haven't been able to do anything like it since AOD stopped having their Iron Cosplay competitions. Here's hoping my team can participate. <3
I intend to be making Cranes whenever I have free time. I still remember how long I cried when I got the phone call about Elizabeth's death. I've been looking forward to and dreading Fanime all at the same time, because I know how strong the memory of her will be this year. Being the Tony to her Loki at the Black and White ball last year and spending most of Fanime with her was the most fun I've ever had at Fanime in the five years I've been attending. (Drunken Tony and Loki Antics abound) Elizabeth really was like a shining light, she always made me smile even when I was upset, and I'm so saddened that I couldn't do the same for her. I'm really glad you're doing something like this for her.
Where will results be posted? here, the facebook group, etc?
Anyone found photos from this yet?

Sorry, I'm all done with scheduling, I haven't had a chance to get online and post that here. My apologies. But you can always find me at-con when I'm not shooting and ask if you want.
I'm just going to post as a mass response to all of you since everyone seems to be after the same times. >.<

Sorry I wasn't online for a couple days, but someone's actually snatched up the 10am-11am slot. And I've gotten tugged into doing Swap Meet Friday night, so 8-9 is out as well. So as it stands, I've only got Thursday and Monday available. Let me know if you'd like either of those days, sorry!
I'll be there as Buttercup from Power Puff Girls.

I've never scheduled a photo shoot at Fanime before but it sounds fun!  What do these photo shoots usually entail?  Do you just do it for fun, or do you sell the photos or something?

It's just for fun. Basically it means an hour dedicated to finding locations, figuring out poses, taking shots, etc. An hour-long shoot usually ends up with 30-40 decent images depending on how much location hopping happens. Of those, I'll usually pick the top 10 or so and photoshop them, and I'd send the cosplayer all 30-40 + the photoshopped images. They don't get sold or anything, just some images for the cosplayer to have, and for me to add to my portfolio.

Name: Kate

Contact: Just PM me.

Location: Walnut Creek. (I can grab anyone in the Contra Costa area, or along the way to San Jose.)

Possible price/Payment: You'd have to pitch in for gas, depending on where I'm grabbing you from.

Misc: I'm leaving Thursday early morning, coming back Monday evening. Can't take anyone with huge props, I've already got a rocket launcher prop taking up an entire seat. xD
Oh! I completely agree, everyone seems to have forgotten about the magic that is Shaman King. I'm planning on cosplaying Hao sometime, so maybe if there's actually going to be a gathering, I'll cosplay him for Fanime 2012. I'll see if I can get my cosplay twin to be Yoh.
Dealers Room / Re: Wig Vendor

It may have been CosplayWigsUSA, I know they had some two tone.
We reserved the room on a card, but then paid in cash when we got there. Paying in cash allowed us to avoid the entire deposit fiasco, they only charged us the money for the room itself. So... apparently, pay in cash! xD
Hey everyone, Team Purple here! I actually had a great time with the event. We were in 1st place during the first day, but ended up 2nd at the end. The competition was very enjoyable, and... to be honest, I really don't have any complaints. So, here's some of the things I think went really well this year! And I've got a few responses to what other people have said too.

We had great runners, actually. The first day, our runner was actually someone who'd never been to a convention before. So, we ended up having a lot of fun just watching him explore the con as we ran around. xD He kept up with us, didn't complain, and he was pretty chill the entire time. The second day, we had a good runner too. I ended up joining back in the race an hour after it started (I'll explain below), but from what I could tell, our runner was cool with just running after us as we ran around the city collecting business cards. He did get stopped for a couple pictures, but he ended up catching up after. I think that would be my one note then: Have runners who aren't cosplaying. It's a bit of a pain to have to keep looking back to make sure your runner can catch up with you after having gotten stopped for photos. But really, we liked our runners.

I actually think it was really cool how some of the people we had to find DIDN'T have orange sashes. It made the game much more complicated and difficult, but what's a reward if you didn't have to earn it by doing difficult tasks? When we couldn't find the Peet's coffee guy, we ended up going upstairs, seeing someone else with an orange sash, and asking him if the guy had gone missing. We got told that maybe his sash wasn't orange, so we kept looking. So, I learned throughout the entire game that if you find someone in an orange sash next to the checkpoint/challenge, they could possibly offer a little hint.

I liked how it was spread across two days, but I do agree that all the information should have been given out BEFORE the prelim round started. I'd been reading the forums, so I knew the rules. But I could tell a lot of the people who qualified were then unhappy when the time/rules were elaborated upon. Also, times NEED to be put out beforehand. On the online schedule, the race wasn't supposed to start until later on saturday. Because it ended up getting moved down to noon, I had to miss the first hour of the race due to being on a panel. I think that pretty much was what lost us our almost constant 1st place lead.

Have everyone start at once! I was one of the first to start, but I like fair races, so I do think everyone should have been given the paper at the same time. That's something that can be fixed next year.

I like the idea of having written out rules. Somewhere along the line, it was mentioned we could text each other, but because we weren't sure, we asked our runner to find out for us. He didn't even have the contact numbers of anyone coordinating the event. We didn't text, because we weren't completely sure what the final verdict on that ended up being. But written out rules would make the entire event SO much easier.

I really have to thank the staff for putting up with our team this year. During the prelims, my partner was still standing in line for her badge, so I was allowed to do the prelim quiz myself. That put me at a bit of a disadvantage, but I still was the 3rd/4th (Can't remember) person to finish. So, thank you for letting me do it while my partner was in line. Also, I had a panel from 12pm-1pm on Saturday, so I'm greatful the staff let my partner have a replacement partner for the first hour of the race that day. I kind of regret not being there, as I feel we could have kept our lead and won, but then again, I had committed myself to a panel way in advance.

Gotta say... this was the BEST part of the entire event. Neither me or my partner can draw (We like stick figures!) and I had to re-draw a second character after the first one did not pass. But it was a really fun challenge, and I LOVE how we were able to decide which team would get stuck at the artist alley and not move on. That was like, the best part of the race. (Sorry green team, you were the first team there that we saw. xD)
So, I'm packing right now. I'm going to have so much stuff, I almost feel bad for the giant corner of the Hotel Room I'll have to claim. I've got:
-Two Flagpoles (With Flags)
-Giant garbage bag with wigheads (For displaying wigs during the swap meet)
-My camera, tripod, and reflectors
-My Laptop bag
-A little Gothic Lolita purse
-My Sewing Machine
-My Electric Bass for one of my cosplays
-A paper bag of food for my hotelmates
-A big suitcase with my cosplays/clothes
-A duffel bag with costumes for the swap meet
-A big bag with all the books/DVD's/Fabrics for the swap meet.

I feel like I'm forgetting something....
Wait, someone got a friday? 0.0 My e-mail said that the event was switched to Sunday only, and that was the only day that was available (And then I had to say no, because I'm in the masquerade) Now I'm lost... people got friday times?
I'd like to call bullshit on something, because I'm a little upset. You are saying that we can not send you a second e-mail requesting a specific day, BUT on the information page on the actual website, it does not say that we have to tell you which day we would prefer in our e-mail. So, that's not fair that the one extra line on the forum (Which isn't always read) isn't on the main info page. The only thing it asks us to add into the notes is if we have an alternative way we'd like to be contacted. I, for one, have to be selling at the swap meet on friday, and I don't think it's fair that just because the line about adding which day we wanted to the notes was missing form the website, that I can not send an e-mail about the day. That's just my two cents. The info here on the forums, and on the webiste, should be the same, or else it isn't not fair.
I keep saying it's final, and then our group changes. xD I PROMISE it's right this time. Here's from our group, who to add and who to subtract from the list.

Narutaisho - Drocelmyer
Pax - Fakir
