Live Programming and Events / Swap Meet 2022?
May 15, 2022, 10:26:53 AM
Is there going to be a swap meet this year? It was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to go so I was just wondering if there were plans for it to happen this year. Thank you for your time!

Dealers Room / Fanime 2019 Dealer Hall Wishlists!
January 08, 2019, 07:13:58 PM
Hello again! Making another thread to see what people are looking for in the dealer's hall this coming Fanime. I figure it's worth a shot to put what people want to see in Dealer's Hall here cause maybe the dealers will check forums and see this and bring those items or type of items. I also just like seeing what other people are into and looking to find when they come. Not everyone has things in mind to look for, some just want to see what's available. Though I personally enjoy finding specific things for good prices at cons compared to buying online or from Japan. So please feel free to list anything you would want to buy from dealer's hall, whether you've seen it there previously or not!

I'm personally hoping for:

Tales of Berseria - Eizen figure (December 2018 Japan release date)
Any other tales figures
Yu-Gi-Oh! Figures (kaiba and joey mainly, I have everyone else lmao)
Trigun merchandise
D Gray man merchandise
Unique/new plushies
Lolita clothing
Kirby merchandise

Hello there! Does it cost money to have professional photos taken at the Black and White Ball? My friends have gone before and had photos taken and don't remember it costing them anything, but they are concerned it might now. Does anyone know how much it costs if so? Thank you very much!

Hello! Is anyone interested in taking a room off my hands? I'm unable to stay the whole weekend and only just found out unfortunately. It's a double room (two double beds) at the Holiday Inn, checking in Thursday May 24 and checking out Tuesday May 29, though you might be able to talk to the hotel about those if you want to leave earlier. Still get the Fanime discount, so the total for five nights is about $582. This hotel is a bit far from the convention center but is on the shuttle list. If no one is interested in taking the room, I will cancel the reservation. Please let me know if you are interested in taking over this room! Thank you!

Big Event Showcase / B&W Ball Heel Caps
April 21, 2018, 06:44:20 PM
Hello! I don't believe the dress code mentions this so I wanted to ask. Lately I've seen some caps being made for small diameter heels to keep them from sinking into grass, effectively making them thicker in diameter. Would these be acceptable on shoes who's heels previously did not meet the diameter requirement? Just trying to think of options! (So many of my shoes do not apply to the rules for this reason lol)

Hotel and Facilities / Hotel Shuttles!
March 16, 2018, 12:36:35 PM
Hello all! This is the first year I have not been able to secure a hotel within walking distance of the convention center, and I cannot recall if there is a shuttle that goes to various hotels or if it only goes to the Double Tree. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn and would love to not have to drive and park if possible. Does anyone know what the shuttle system was like last year? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Panels and Workshops / Supreme Pro Wrestling
January 09, 2018, 08:14:10 PM
Hello all! I just came back from Sacanime up in Sacramento and found something oddly interesting that they had available as a panel. Supreme Pro Wrestling. It didn't really have to do with anime, cosplay, or anything, but it was highly enjoyable to watch! I know there's been some type of wrestling at Fanime before, so I'm not sure if this group has attended before, but I think they would be a great performance to have at Fanime. I'll add some links below to their official page and facebook page. If others are interested in seeing this, maybe they could come for a panel in San Jose!

Ideas and Suggestions / Food Trucks!
July 10, 2017, 11:10:21 PM
Not sure if this has been brought up before, and thus answered before, but I've been going to a few other cons out of the area and have noticed a prevalence of food trucks available at conventions. I was wondering if this could be something that could be introduced to Fanime? I know there isn't very much space for them to park, but perhaps it could be arranged? I feel like it would offer a lot of options, especially more affordable options, to con goers for food and the food trucks themselves would make a decent profit supposedly. I also understand the issues with lines/dangers due to being in such a downtown area, but I feel like it is something that can be accomplished? I think it would be a good improvement for future years of fanime if possible. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this as well, either for or against it. Maybe now with Adobe partnering with Fanime, it could be done!

Hello all! I understand FanimeCon is not counted in the lists of largest anime conventions in North America due to attendance being shared with Clockwork Alchemy. However I'm ever curious where we stand among other cons. I've seen an attendance number in 2014 of around 27,000 and with 2015 being even higher, though I'm curious if 2016 broke the 30,000 mark. (I may or may not be competing with my friend who goes to A-kon for who has the larger home con). If anyone has the numbers and is willing to share them, please do! Thank you so much~

(The wiki page for Fanime stopped updating attendance count in 2014 due to the Clockwork Alchemy problem)

Hi all! Last year I took a gander around the fanime convention area to see what construction and such might inhibit usual activities. Luckily, much construction in that area has been completed or hasn't started yet. However again the grassy areas in the park are currently fenced off to be reseeded from the Super Bowl event. Last year the fences were removed in time for fanime, and hopefully should also be removed in time this year. Though I thought I would let people know just in case!

As far as construction, the building next to the fairmont is now finished. The closest construction project is only currently a proposal for new apartments to be built where Park Hall is currently. Thus because of this, possibly, the Black and White Ball has been moved to the Marriott Ballroom. I know this has been mentioned on other threads, but I thought I would post here as well just to be sure everyone knows! I'm not sure if the construction is the reason for this change if it hasn't started yet, but it seems likely. I'll keep checking the area for construction updates though it seems all proposals and current projects are out of the way of cosplay gathering areas and routes to the convention center from hotels.

If you're curious about current construction projects in the area, here's a handy map provided by the city that is current as of one week of me posting this: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1SF6B7WJFutm2YlItoXwCe-CAu5E&hl=en_US&ll=37.33131087974283%2C-121.88834308462526&z=17

There is currently some construction on apartment buildings next to South Hall, though this shouldn't pose much of an issue. If anything else comes up that might pose an issue, I'll update this thread! Hope this offers some useful information for some non-locals~

Hi all! Since we've had a gathering the past few years, I'm hoping there to be one this year as well. I understand the organizer who has been running it has since retired, and I myself am not planning to run the gathering. But I know there are people interested! If someone would be interested in running the gathering and getting it up on the schedule and official, that would be wonderful. My friend and I are going to be Yami Yugi and Yami Bakura and we'd love to hang out with other yugiohs~ (My old wig is little more than a tumbleweed at this point, here comes a new wig!!!)

Hey all, anyone interested in hosting a Hellboy gathering? I'm hoping to cosplay Princess Nuala from the 2nd movie and was wondering if there were enough other cosplayers who would want a gathering~ I've seen a few cosplays my last few fanimes and would be super psyched to attend a gathering!

Dealers Room / Fanime 2017 Wishlists!
September 01, 2016, 03:05:54 PM
Continuing this little idea from last year, post what you're looking for in the dealer's hall here! This way, staff can possibly get the type of vendors contracted that will sell those things. Remember, we gotta tell them what we're looking to buy! The staff aren't psychic~

I'm looking for merch from these fandoms/interests:

Yu-Gi-Oh! (mainly the original two series, as well as the new movie coming out)
Overwatch
Splatoon
Trigun
HunterXHunter
Steven Universe
Neko Atsume
Jinbei-san (I never see his merch at conventions but I think it would be super popular, he's such a cute whale)

I'm also interested in:

Lolita clothing/unique fashion
Corsets
Punk hats/accessories (Definitely hoping to see ArsenicxCyanide there again~)

Again, if there's something you'd like to see in the dealer's hall, post it here so the staff will know! I'm also excited to see what other people are looking for.

Panels and Workshops / 2017 Panel Requests!
June 08, 2016, 10:21:54 AM
Hi there! I've noticed through the years that the variety of panels can be very limited at fanime, so I thought I would start a thread where people can put out what kind of panels they might like to attend to possibly give some ideas of what people want to go to! I'm not a panelist myself, but I do know what kind of panels my friends and I would love to attend if they were being given!

Web comics - my friend has their own web comic and he is an amazing artist. I never see panels about web comics and the like at fanime, and he would really enjoy attending some of those, whether sharing your own experience with it, giving advice for those making their own or whatever!

Cultural panels - Informative presentations about Japan (or other countries!) and their culture, their food, history, etc!

World building - my friend is interested in a panel that can help explore how to build worlds for writers, game developers, etc, possibly from someone with experience in that area and how they made their fictional world, what worked for them, what helped them get creative and how to keep it all organized.

More artist panels in general - there's always a lot of cosplay themed panels, but not as many artist panels! We really want to see more things for artists of all styles, from digital to traditional. Perhaps someone in the industry or freelance perspective who can share their experiences and opinions of what works best for approaching things like advertising, merchandise and business strategy, including sponsorship. How to help artists get recognized and get their name out there. Maybe even a panel where artists can share their talents, perhaps in a "mad lib" style create something like a world or story that can then be shared by those artists or something like that (I'm just hastily writing down what my friend is suggesting omg)

Parody/Possibly "offensive" panels - I was super excited for that professor oak's late night lab 18+ panel that was scheduled but canceled this year. Things like that I'm super into and would love to attend

Game show style panels - panels that really get the audience involved are great. I know there are a lot of Q&A panels but that's not really what I'm talking about. Those only really seem to involve people who have questions to ask, while game shows can involve everyone. Idk that's just the impression I get. Honestly there's always way too many Q and A panels.

If anyone has any panels, specific or not, they suggest/would want someone to host, post it here! Doesn't assure it'll happen of course but it gives a good chance! We gotta tell them what the people want~

Last year apparently there was a GREAT takoyaki place inside the dealer's hall in the back, which also sold other things. I was wondering if that will return this year? Also wondering if the concessions in the back of the dealer's hall will be open and serving food or what other options for food there will be within the dealer's hall. It seems to change every year and there's not much info on it this year, so if anyone knows of confirmed food options there will be I would love to know! Pocky isn't really food, and that concession stand outside the dealer's hall can be expensive and limited. I'm hoping there's more options this year for all con goers so they don't have to necessarily leave the convention center to get a bite to eat.

Just in case some people don't know, according to the map this year peacebonding will be in the Santa Clara room of the Hilton. Check the main map on the main website to see where that is. If you have a weapon/prop, make sure you take it to be peacebonded before walking around with it! I didn't see much advertisement about where it is being held this year so I thought I would post here. Be safe with your props!

General Convention Discussion / 2016 Maps!
May 16, 2016, 10:56:29 AM
Hey everyone! So I've been anticipating the release of the maps for this year, but it constantly gives me the coming soon stuff. However if you click on the link for the dance http://www.fanime.com/maps/#dance it also shows the other maps available! Check it out as it seems a number of things have moved compared to last year!

With the new rule or regulation rather that people need a badge to get even to the second floor of the con, it raises some questions and concerns for me personally. There are a great deal of ways to get to the second floor, from the escalators and stars near the front entrance to the staircases near the connecting hotels to the connecting bridges to the connecting hotels themselves. Are all these areas going to be monitored/closed off? The two staircases in the front entrance of the convention center are often a gathering place for cosplayers, and because of the way they are situated, would those need to be completely closed off or just the parts where one could get up to the second floor? I just don't want cosplayers getting surprised when they see a common gathering area no longer available to be used, whether for just hanging out or actual photoshoots. Just trying to get an idea of what the new security is going to be like and how it will affect the flow of the convention~ Thank you!

Just in case anyone didn't know, the McDonald's frequented by congoers in the past only a few blocks from the convention center is now closed. That's one fast food option that isn't available anymore. However still standing are Psycho Donuts (breakfast and donuts obviously), Pizza My Heart, Yogurtland, JAck in the Box, Boba Bar, Iguana's Home of the Burritozilla, and Dosa and Curry in the general area of where McDonald's once was. Food is very important for congoers so if you rely on fast food during the convention, take note of the now lack of McDonald's!

Hi all~ I live in the area so I try to visit the area around Fanime before the con to see if there's construction or anything new that might affect events. I went yesterday and just noticed a few things I thought I should mention!

Several grassy areas in the plaza have been fenced off to allow seeding of new grass (apparently after a wild super bowl party) but has taken a month longer than expected. Staff at the valet of the fairmont agreed with me that it should be done before the con and the fences removed. However if not, this might affect some gathering areas! I know the Homestuck gathering usually takes place around the snake/poop statue which as of yesterday is completely fenced off. If the fences are still up by Fanime, make sure to keep some alternative gathering locations in mind! Only about half of the grassy areas are still fenced off however, so it should be easy to move. But as of right now the statue is off limits.

Also there seems to be a new sandy "beach" area built next to the fountains! It has several brightly colored chairs and tables and just seems like a nice area for beach or ocean photo shoots or gatherings, so keep that in mind!

Photos of these areas are on my tumblr with a similar post as this at theamazingmugi.tumblr.com (I'm on mobile as I post this but if I can add the photos when I get to my laptop I will). And I will also return in about a week to speak with fairmont staff in person (I hate phone calls) so if anything changes I can let you guys know!

I made a thread in the dealer's hall forum about this as well, and thought one in the artist alley section would be good too. If there's something specific you're hoping to find in artist alley (prints, plush, accessories, etc.) post it here! Artists who check the forums might see this thread and it increases the chances of you finding what you want for sale!

From Artist Alley, I'm hoping to find:

- Edgy, dark-style original art (I love creepy monsters and powerful metaphorical pictures)
- Any accessories with bows, octopi, sunfish, or flowers on them
- Yugioh prints etc (sCREAMS)
- Pumpkaboo prints etc
- Splatoon prints etc
- Subnautica literally anything I would love
- Huniepop literally anything also
- Osomatsu prints etc
- Steampunk stuff!
- Horns~ the wearable kind
- Anything about memes
- HunterXHunter prints
- Anything that has to do with girls with multiple arms (my bf loves that~)
- Ancient Magnus Bride prints etc
- Miraculous Ladybug prints, stickers etc
- Zootopia prints

I hope to see some of these things available in artist alley! What are you guys hoping to find? Add it to the thread so artists reading the forums can know and might take the advice!

I know the movie just came out, but I was wondering if anyone else was interested in a Zootopia gathering? I'm planning on wearing Gazelle and would love to see other Zootopia cosplays!
#23
Haven't seen a thread for a huniepop gathering but was wondering if anyone else was planning on cosplaying from that lovely match three dating game? I'll hopefully be cosplaying Celeste. I'm not very good at organizing gatherings but would love to meet up with others if you are cosplaying huniepop!

Dealers Room / Fanime 2016 Wishlists!
January 04, 2016, 11:47:12 AM
Hello everyone~ I really like being able to post here about what people want to find in the dealers hall, especially the fact that staff might check it out and have it influence who sets up shop. I like seeing what other people are interested in buying too~

General Convention Discussion / Food Court 2015?
May 18, 2015, 10:35:08 AM
I saw on the map of the main convention building that there is going to be a food court again, however last year the "food court" left something to be desired. There were only 4 or 5 booths and maybe 2 of them had actual food, not beverages. I was just wondering if anyone knows what kinds of things will be in the food court this year? Can we count on it to be a place to get an actual meal (as far as food court meals go I mean) or will it just be a place to get little snacks? I think one of the actual kitchens in the back of the exhibition room was in use last year too, serving BBQ (a rumor I heard, I never saw it for myself). Does anyone know if that will be open this year? Just trying to see what food options there are within the convention center building this year~
