Hotel and Facilities / Re: Housing for Fanime 2016

They might put it up sooner, might be later. Best thing to do is monitor the forums, Facebook, Twitter, and the official Website for updates.

Sec. 12550: "Imitation firearm" means any BB device, toy gun, replica of a firearm, or other device that is so substantially similar in coloration and overall appearance to an existing firearm as to lead a reasonable person to perceive that the device is a firearm." So if it looks like a gun...

Might be a problem.

Well, that one's obvious. What I'm wondering about (more out of curiousity than anything) is where something like this might fall:

I'm no lawyer, but isn't there a difference between "Imitation Firearm" and "Prop weapon?" e.g., if you make a toy based on an M-16 or an AR-15 that's an imitation firearm, but if you paint a Nerf weapon brown and silver, does that mean it's a prop weapon and doesn't fall under these regulations? The news article linked even uses the term "certain replica guns."

I plan on cosplaying as a Mii Brawler in SSB T-shirt costume, so depending on the day and time I might make it.

It'd be nice to have this at Day 0 or maybe at some of the gathering areas after hours.

Things in the Universe / Re: Dying without Fanime

Don't worry... only... 356 days left to go until Fanime 2016!
#47
This seems like it would do really well at Clockwork alchemy.
#48
I'd rather not do it on Day 0, if my vote counts for anything. I usually don't get a hotel room until Friday, so a Saturday or Sunday morning run. Do the shuttles run on day 0?

All comes down to who's willing to organize it and stuff, though.

Where's a good place to get the the trail if you're leaving from the Hilton?
#49
The Cosplay Hangout should be closer to Peacebonding
My friends got denied Peacebonding and had to modify their props. This involved going to the Hilton, going to the Marriott, and then going back to the Hilton. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them close together so people who need to modify props can do it quicker?

Signs
Basic signage that tells you how to get to the shuttle, Fairmont, Swap Meet, etc. Clockwork Alchemey does it despite being a much smaller con and it works really well.

If we're doing that, I'm in favour of that route. I don't want to share a very sweaty shuttle bus back to Fanime...
#51
I'd be up for it. I think I'd rather do it in the morning, California heat and all that.

What distance were you thinking, like a 5K? I'm sure there's some really great places close to downtown.

Looking at the map, there's something called the Guadalupe river trail right next to the convention center, anyone know if it's a running trail?

Video Rooms are not badged  :)

This is news to me. But now my friend getting in without a badge seems a lot less of a big deal.

Friday, Clockwork Alchemy had a full day of programming, but too few attendees. If Fanime is slow on Friday, come on over to Clockwork Alchemy. We have lots of room, lots of activities, and tea.

I really wanted to stop by clockwork on Friday, but by the time I was checked into the hotel, got settled, and played photographer for my friends I ended up letting it slip by. I really wanted to check out the Simple Effects Prosthetics and the Nemo's Realm panels!

Clockwork is growing on me, last year I didn't make it there until Sunday but this year I made it over on Saturday. I bounced some panel ideas off friends of mine and they thought they were interesting so maybe I'll be there next year as a panelist.

Of course if you did go barefoot you got yelled at.
#55
The parasyte sub's were awful. Not really blaming, just an observation.

Ten minutes before Wolf Children ended the show was stopped and we were told to please move to the center of the room. There were dozens of seats available which made the interruption confusing and annoying.
#56
Gotta agree with the director s pick-that was a great AMV more than a great HMV.
#57
Put up signs to some basic landmarks, shuttle stop, hotels, south hall... Or do you mean tips to give first timers? In that case, something about finding your way around before the con, like online or on Day 0.

Gatherings can be tricky so check with the desk a half hour before so you can get to the right place on time.

Panels often have lines, so once again, get there early and ask staff which line to be in!

Restaurants are busy often, try to keep snacks close by (hotel, backpack, car)

Would written submissions help? I'm not saying only do written submissions but it might help get questions translated faster and avoid more embarrassing ones.
#59
If one sets aside $10 a week between now and Fanime 2016, they'd have $520 by the time the con comes around! Get saving!
#60
My friends live not too far and I used to crash with them but now I get us a hotel room for the con. It's really worth it because you don't have to have a DD and you can keep all your costumes close by instead of driving back home to change.
