Things in the Universe / 2010: The year of ...
December 21, 2010, 08:33:10 PM
Well, the year's almost over, so time for a review of the year that was 2010.  Post your favorite quotes, songs, news stories, or anything else that happened in 2010.  I'll start off with

2010 was the year of  the OLD SPICE ad campaign of:
"Hello ladies,  look at your man, now look back at me."
San Diego Comic Con and (Blame) AX are happening the next few weeks, so who's going to other shows, and what other shows are going on?
If you've watched Animaniacs, you already know where this is going.  Post a "Good Idea" and follow it up with a complimentary "Bad Idea".

Good Idea:    Playing the piccolo in a marching band.
Bad Idea:      Playing the piano in a marching band.

Good Idea:    Feeding stray kittens in the park.
Bad Idea:      Feeding stray kittens in the park to a bear.

Good Idea:    Stopping to smell the roses.
Bad Idea:      Stopping to feel the roses.

Good Idea:    Taking a deep breath before jumping into a swimming pool.
Bad Idea:      Taking a deep breath after jumping into a swimming pool.

Good Idea:     Visiting Scenic McClain Indiana.

Forum Games / Video Game Character Hurt 'n Heal.
September 19, 2009, 01:07:26 AM
Video Game Character Hunt 'n Heal:

Plays like Anime Manga Hurt 'n Heal, with a few minor changes.

1. Nominees start with 15 Points.
2. There can only be 24 total nominees.  (once there are 24 nominees, no more can be added until one nominee is eliminated.)
3. Nominees can be from Arcade, console, or even computer games.
4. You can vote once every 20 Minutes.
5. You can Hurt and heal, hut hurt, or heal heal one candidate, or, hurt or heal once each two candidates per turn.
6. A character does not have to be just a person, robot, or anthropomorphic character, it can also be a vehicle or something esoteric like "My ship" (Shooter) from Tempest.  Villans and bosses are welcome as cadidates
7.  If a character is in more than one game, it's still only one nominee, and is nominated for all games it is in. (i.e.  Mario is Mario.  Mario from Mario Brothers or Paper Mario  is Mario.  Jump man from Donkey Kong is Mario).

I will post five nominees to start off with that I've tried to pick from a wide range of games.  Some will probably be voted right off, others will be nominated to the list.

Also, if you post a character name, make sure ther isn't more than one game with a character of the same name (i.e. There are probably more than a few games with characters named Sakura, or Ken).  If there is, post the name of the game in brackets after the character name

Here's the starting list:

1.  Chun Li             15
2.  Mario                 15
3.  Master Chief     15
4.  Ms. Pac Man    15
5.  Strider Hiryu     15

And no gripin' about my first nominees.  There were a lot of candidates I could think of, but I tried to pick from a wide field.

... Person, Place, or Thing?
(or other appropriate noun).

Post a Who, What, Where, When, How question about a favorite subject, and the next person answers, and follows up with another question.

P-1:  What is your favorite kind of soda?

P-2:  Dr. Pepper.
        What is your favorite Colour?

P-3   Blue.
       Where is your favorite beach?

So on etc.

Staring off with:   What is your favorite Cable / Satellite channel?
Post pictures or stories about your pets (or is Companion Animal the PC term?)  Be they winged, four-legged, or (shudder) no legged.
Found at a local 99 Cents Only store:

Viz Inu Yasha DVD's (T.V. series volumes 23,24,25,29,30,33,39,and 40, Movie 4) for, you guessed it, 99 cents each.

I'm guessing there's more, but the shelf they were on is full, so I'll check later in the week.
If I make it next year, and they show up, I want to have a sign that says:
Jesus Christ

It's a lion!

Since all of the T.V. show quote threads are gone, why not a general one?

This time, list the person or character that is being quoted, and the show the quote is from.
Also, it's not just limited to Dramas and sit-coms.  Feel free to put quotes fro talk shows, and game shows as well.

Homer:   Homerclease has no need of beans!

(from the Simpsons).

David Letterman:  So...      What were you thinking?

David Letterman to Hugh Grant.
This is a place to post weird ass real, untouched photographs (frames, subtitles, and titles are allowed)

And this will cost him 7.6 million dollars of his 25 Million dollar a year salary.  Any thoughts?
Forum Games / Song Title by Places Game:
May 07, 2009, 12:23:57 PM

1.  Use only real locations either in the title of a song, or that the song is about.
2.  No fictional places.
3.  Reply posts must have a connection to the previous post.
4.  Nicknames are allowed ( I.E   L. A. For Los Angeles, ).
5.  A place is a city, State, country, park, building, street, neighborhood that isn't fictional  So don't use titles like Jenny from the Block, or the place where you live).

Post a song title about a place, and the connection to the previous post.

Sample:   Original post:    Shuffle off to Buffalo. (a City in New York State)
Follow up post:  New York, New York. (Also A City in New York State)
Follow up post:   I love New York. (The State Song of New York).

And so on.

So I'll start off with this...

Do you know the Way to San Jose (A City in California)

Things in the Universe / The Awful Truth(s)
April 27, 2009, 10:38:54 PM
Post the truth(s) that people really want to deny.

HD Television only improves the picture, not the content of the programming.

Those chemical, and DNA tests they do on the CSI shows take a lot longer to do in real life.

Your cat doesn't cuddle up with you to be "nice",  it just wants to keep warm.
I was able to get a hotel for Comic Con 2009 today!  Is anyone else going (San Diego Convention Center, July 23-26 2009, preview night July 22nd)?
I also see that single day passes are available again this year.
Things in the Universe / Worst Movie Adaptations ...EVER!
February 16, 2009, 09:28:53 PM
First we had  The Worst Sequel thread, then the Worst Remake thread, so It's time to have a "Worst Adaptation thread.
Post some of the worst movies adapted from another source (I.E. T.V shows, Comic books, Video games, books, etc).

I'll start of with that classic comic-book movie adaptation from the 1980's:  Howard the Duck
Forum Games / The list of...
December 19, 2008, 01:18:09 PM
Post a "Top" list of anything here.  Doesn't necessarily have to be a "top ten" list  (but try to keep it reasonably short).
It can be a Parody list,  a list of your favorite  "insert topic here"  or even a real list from the news, or other source.

To start, the list of T.V. show titles that only sound like they might be pornos:

1.  Malcolm in the Middle
2.  Two and a Half Men
3.  The Big Bang Theory
4.  King of the Hill
5.  The Big Spin
