Hotels already opened and yeah, they really did fill up that fast. :(

At this point, the only options are to...

A) find a room at a non-discounted hotel
B) find a friend who managed to snag a room and try to room with them
C) in hotel reservations, set your arrival day to Wednesday and your departure day to Thursday, then reserve a room (any room), then email FaniHousing AT cmr DOT com and ask to be put on the waitlist for the room type you actually want.

For method C, you have to have a reservation before they will put you on the waitlist. Also, there's no guarantee that you'll actually get the room you want, as there are probably a lot of people on the waitlist ahead of you already.

You probably will not be able to be reimbursed, and actually PLEASE do not email ANYONE your social security number!

They might be able to change your name on the badge if you explain the situation. As Admiral Donuts said, email registration(AT)fanime(DOT)com to see what your options are.

A more correct term is that Fanime has consumed San Jose. with each year, it takes more and more of downtown. And now it is going even beyond that.

I've heard staff say they don't want to move because the next biggest place is the moscone in frisco, and it is not exactly to their liking.

I wouldn't mind Moscone, but the decision isn't up to me. :P

The price for moscone is very expensive, and hotels WILL be more pricier than the ones in san jose!.. ALSO even though it's bigger, the venues are going to be hard to seperate from each other.

The biggest problem is traffic, and Raised ticket price!....

MOscone is nice, but i don't think i want to experience another horrible moment like wondercon did! (when san francisco held that)

That's a good point. I was trying to research how much it cost to rent the Moscone, but I couldn't find any info.

Finally got through, but the lady got my reservation wrong. I asked for Thursday through Monday and she put Thursday through Sunday...

What me and my boyfriend usually do is make sure we have enough in the bank for the room and deposit, and have our convention spending money in cash so it doesn't get tied up. It's been a lot easier since we started doing it this way.

I also recommend this. It also makes sure you don't spend over your con budget.

How about the new ballroom in the CC?  Or is that where dance lessons are being held now?

The new Ballroom is where Artist Alley was in 2014 and will probably continue to be unless they change it again.

They put a hold for the amount of the room PLUS the deposit. So if your hotel room is $115/night, and you stay for four nights in one room, they will reserve $860 on your account.

(room rate + deposit)(# of nights)(# of rooms) + taxes

And yes, they put the hold on your account when you check in, and it probably won't drop off until several days after the con. Once, it took over a week to get my account back. Just make sure you're prepared for that.

Is this still an issue? I too have not received my check or a response to my email inquiry.

There are timeline issues with that...it would also be absurd but necessary to enforce B+W ball shoe code during the Swap Meet....

I think that except at places where Homestucks officially gather (the gathering, Dinnerstuck, etc.), a lot of members of the fandom have moved on to other things, so a lot of the newer fans, younger fans, more obsessive fans, etc. have stayed behind and stayed visible. I know that a lot of HS cosplayers have moved on to other series (as I likely will once the comic ends), and spend the majority of their con in cosplays from those other series rather than in HS cosplay. Even if these people are still fans and part of the fandom otherwise, they are no longer visible as HS fans, leaving the most visible segment of the fandom as the younger and more obsessive fans.

There has also been a lot less push from within the fandom recently to improve the image of the fandom, which is unfortunate, and possibly has contributed to the perception of the fandom this year. I've also seen fewer complaints about the fandom, so it may just be slipping off everyone's radars.

I agree. I'd say the visible part of the fandom is only like, 15% of the whole, and that 15% mostly has newer and more obsessive fans. And within their group, they think shouting "OTP!!" is funny because Nepeta. But they might not have enough experience to understand that persons outside of fandom might not appreciate such a joke. Honestly, I think it's just a case of a small group of fans making the rest look bad, and we older, more experienced fans need to teach them how to have fun and make jokes respectfully.

Tumblr did a hate campaign on the original runners of the gathering, and that drove some away as well. idk why they did this, as it should be minor, but nope, the community drove her away, and that kinda urked me. the gathering was fine. why did you need to burst the person running that ship perfectly i have no idea.

She was accused of sexual assault. That's not exactly minor.

Not sure where you got this from. Young people ages 15-25 are usually bogged down with school, homework, and extracurricular activities. I haven't had free time since 2008.

I can tell you that one thing we need is volunteers on thursday, If the Homestuck community stepped up and volunteered hours to the convention on thursday and even hosted some events like a rave, helped the swap meet or something you came up with, it would make a huge difference in the perception of the group.

If your community owns making Thursday rock for fanime, I am certain you will be seen in another (brighter) light.

1. There is already a Dance, no need for a rave.
2. I don't remember if they did it this year, but I know last year the HS community hosted a "Can Town Drive" and encouraged people to donate. Also, there have been several Homestuck panels. How much more involved do you want them?
3. What makes you think Homestuck fans don't volunteer/staff? They're just usually not in cosplay when they do, since most of these cosplays take a crapton of prep.

... Yeah, Thursday night we started a bit late because of registration hiccups (about 45 minutes late). Moving it up to 5:30 might work, but only for Thursday, since I believe the dealers hall is open until 7 PM on Friday and the swap meet can't be open while the dealers hall is.

Is there a reason why swap meet and dealer's hall can't be opened at the same time?

I'm not 100% sure, but I suspect it has to do with something the contract with dealers.

EDIT: I managed to find a copy of the Dealers Contract from 2013 (not posting the link, but I found it with google), but I couldn't find any language that would prohibit the two events from coinciding. Maybe I missed something, or something changed in 2014, or maybe it's something internal that I can't find on my own. I'd love if Swap Meet staff commented.

I've heard between 25,000 and 27,000. (Note: this is me talking without my staff hat. I have no access to the official numbers.)

Personally, I'd love to see Artist Alley and Dealers Hall split Halls 1-3 evenly (is there a way to divide Hall 2 in half?) and moving Gaming to the Grand Ballroom.

I'm not sure what you mean by overpriced. All the prices I saw were definitely reasonable (almost too cheap if you ask me).

As for inconsistency in info, these things happen every year with every con. There were info desks everywhere if you ever needed clarification or updates.

I'm trying to figure out where to plug in an HDMI cord in the TVs in the Marriott. Anyone having better luck than me?
