Yay!  I wasn't able to attend their performance last year cause I was stuck taking my middle school orchestra on a music festival trip to Anaheim.  I'm super excited that I finally get to watch FLOW live!

...I still got a killer autograph from them last year!

Some staffers (including myself) will be there starting on Day -1. :P

Some even day -2 :)

Yeah!  LOGS will be there running around in their infamous jumpsuits on Day -1! Maybe we should make an appearance on Day -2!!!!

If you have a valet help carry your bag up to you room, it's nice to tip around $1-$2 a bag.

As for parking valet, $2-$3 is good.  I usually tip a little more so that I know they'll take nice care of my car and from my experience if it's usually the same person, they tend to bring my vehicle out faster.

When it comes to tipping for room service, the standard applies as if you were out in a restaurant.  Anywhere from 15-20% is good.  I generally try for 18% minimum since I know they mostly work off tips.  20% if they did an outstanding job and went out of their way to get things for me.

When you are a guest at the hotel, it's also a good idea to tip the maids (especially if you are prone to having a messy room).  Usually $2-5 a person per night is good.  The more you tip, the happier they'll be and they'll do nice things for you like leave extra sets of towels.  I usually like to tip large the first night just to let them know that I appreciate them and they take care of me.  Sometimes when I leave continuous tips, they will pass the tip and leave it as is on the table/dresser for me to take back.  When they do this, I just make sure to leave a standard tip my last day.

I am so bummed that I can't see FLOW on Friday nor attend their autograph session on Saturday.  I'm stuck taking my middle school orchestra to Anaheim for a music festival and a workshop at Disneyland from Thursday - Saturday.  Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited to be with my students....but FLOW....[sigh]

Oh well....I'm all ready to work on Day -1 and I can't wait to enjoy Days 3 and 4 of con!!!

I might make my way to Poor House Bistro (91 South Autumn Street) one night. Good New Orleans food, I'd say.
I also wanna try Henry's Hi Life(301 W. St. John) and Gumbo Jumbo(80 N. Market Street) How are those places?

Poor House Bistro is okay.  Reasonable sizes and great prices.  My favorite items on the menus are the po' boys. If you can get on their e-mail list, they tend to send out lots of coupons.

If you are going to take the time to trek somewhere definitely go to Henry's High Life.  I was always curious about the place every time I drove by it on 87.  I finally went after that mouthwatering episode on I saw on Man vs. Food where the host visited the restaurant.  Great price for the amount of meat you get.  I've tried both the ribs (I tried to attack a whole rack and couldn't succeed-only stuck to half portions) and the prime rib.  Both are outstanding!  Comes with a nice salad and awesome bread.  I can't remember if there was a potato or not...it's been a while since I've gone; I had to limit/eliminate meat from my diet after the surgery I had in late January. 

Gumbo Jumbo is pretty good too, but kinda pricey ($15-$22 entree).  I favor their jambalaya over Poor House, but that's just me.  There are very few restaurants that could compare to the traditional taste of real New Orleans cooking, but I think Gumbo Jumbo does a good job.

If you are looking for another BBQ spot and have a vehicle, another great spot to hit is Blue Rock BBQ on 3001 Meridian Ave (it't about a 4-5 mile drive from the convention center).  They do and awesome dry rub BBQ and have outstanding Tennessee pulled pork options.  Everything on their menu is reasonably priced and comes with a nice selection of sides (I always stick to the baked beans...sweet and smokey).

The annual Hot Pot dinner outing after 10 pm (it's cheaper after 10 pm).

I really want to go and be among fellow Fanime staffers that day, but I have to to help out with marching band that day as it is our first competition of the season...

Oh well...Have lots of fun and think of me as I freeze my butt off in the cool of the late evening.

I'm kinda excited to go to a DCI show this year (I took a hiatus last year from the whole drum corps thing...I guess my wallet needed a break from all the money I kept spending for all the CA shows). 

I won't be there at the after party (I have work the next day), but I'll definitely be there for the show!!!

Then when all is done...I must get home and pack up for AX...Ahhh... I love summer. :D

I think all the staffers worked very well this year. 

I especially want to thank my Logistics staff for all their hard work and effort this year!  They all did an awesome job working pre and post con putting up with all the new changes we had to adapt to.  And they were all so helpful to take the time to help build shelves at the ARG office, re-organize, and inventory everything in the office...months before the con even started.

I look forward to working with everyone again next year!

[Kitchen Princess]

I'm reading quite a few, but I'd like to mention the foodie mangas I'm reading.

Kitchen Princess It has an okay story line, but I love the fact that they include recipes of the desserts that they featured in the manga.  I've made most of them ;D and the end product is always really cute, pretty tasty and very petite (I prefer the Japanese food portions rather than the American portions).

Yakitate! Ja-Pan I knew it was going to be a bit tough for the English version to translate/explain all the Japanese puns, but I love reading the manga nevertheless.  It's cool to see how the artist really did their homework of the culinary world.
