Let's try to keep this subject on topic  ;D Hospitality Staff.

For any thoughts questions or concerns for Item Check please post to http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,19180.0.html.

I'm watching listening and answering there.

Here's my two cents... and no it's not negative.

The best way to go about this would be to write a proposal. This is how I fought for the creation of Item Check last year.

Things to include:

A descriptive overview. This should include the details like where you've seen this done in the past (i.e. real Japanese Dept. Stores), how you feel this would benefit the con, how you feel this would benefit attendees.

You should go over procedures. How will this department function and where. Remeber if your going to be stemming flow into rooms this will need coordination with the department inside the doorways, as well as facilities to make certain it is manageable and enjoyable. We don't want to cause a new source of linecon.

Finally, what kind of budget are you looking at. Will greeters be required to provide their own uniform (like Fanimaid initially), or is the uniform something the dept. provides. Will you need other supplies like shouting horns (non powered megaphones).

I feel that Item Check went so smoothly (for its first year) and got green lighted a lot easier, since most of the major questions had been answered before things really started.

I believe the company you are looking for is Level Up Studios. http://www.levelupstudios.com/?s=Nudist+beach

Dealers Room / Re: Dishonest Dealers from 2014

Thanks, Frumpy for handling this. The thread has grown a bit since I last checked in.  :o

Seriously speaking though if someone feels they were ripped off of on something, especially if a vendor lied to them, I would like to know so I can follow up.

If you see anything that you believe 100% or think might be bootleg you should take the time to mention it to the staff members up front no matter what. If they aren't bootlegs it will work out for the dealer if they are they are F'd

Couldn't do said it better. Outside of gross lack of safety or concern for con-goers, bootlegs are the only reason we would kick a vendor out, especially during the show.

I have just heard back from the Dealer in question.

She told me there was the fanart poster, but it was a mistake. She had bought it a previous con and put it in a poster flat behind another poster to protect it. The poster was intended for her own personal collection. The poster that was intended to be sold, was and this exposed the fanart poster making it look as if she intended to sell it as well.

The fan art poster was not sold during the course of the con by MJ Anime Goods. This is not the first time something like this has happened at Fanime. I advise all our dealers, especially those handling wall scrolls and posters to double check their stock.

I'd like to thank everyone that made Item Check such a success this year. I'm pretty certain it will be coming back.

For those that experienced hiccups thanks for helping with the alpha test, and we are trying to make it smoother for next year.

We have heard many requests for us to stay open past the dance/24 hours, having a bulk rate, and possibly having an unlimited time rate (i.e. Charging a flat rate for an item stored Fri.-Mon. Rather than a daily rate). We are working on logistics/feasibility of these requests and will have to see what we can do.

If you have any suggestion/comments please let me know.  :D

I know who the vendor is. I will make certain this doesn't happen again.

So I heard that at Fanime 2014, there was an issue with MJ Anime Goods trying to sell a poster of fanart, and the artist was even there at Fanime. Even though MJ Anime Goods was saying they weren't trying to sell it (but it seemed that was a load of BS).

In short, I just don't really want to see MJ Anime Goods allowed into the dealer's hall at fanime, or swap meet. Since, I do believe that the person who runs MJ Anime Goods has actually sold their merchandise at swap meet before, and they obviously do not have used items.

And another thing, I saw posters for sale that had been FOLDED. You do NOT do that to a poster you are trying to sell without slashing the price in half. Because who wants to buy a folded poster for $50? Not me, that's for sure. I have bought posters for as low as $2 because they're just pieces of paper, geez. Oh, a handling fee included in price? You don't have to sell this stuff you know. You're also adding in tax, so yeah.

So, yeah, I honestly feel like they do not have very good morals when it comes to their selling. They're just trying to make a lot of money off of unsuspecting anime lovers. Either they shouldn't be allowed to sell at fanime or everyone needs to boycott them.

So unless someone can prove that this kind of thing isn't true about them, that's my opinion on them.

I'm just trying to get some more information. Did you witness the fanart poster issue or just hear about it?

I provide a list of names of our vendors and their support teams to swap meet so we can crack down on Dealers at the Swap Meet. Some do slip through but we are always looking and trying to prevent unfair business practices.

The posters that were folded that I saw came from magazines like Megami. These were not folded by MJ Anime Goods, but by the actual maker. In a supply and demand economy it is fair to charge $50 for a poster that you can't get else where regardless of the cost of supplies that made it. It is more of a matter of you don't have to buy this stuff then "you don't have to sell this stuff."

I'm pretty sure the "Luffy Pirates" items that were part of the charity auction were bootlegs.

If you are referring to the Ussop/Nami tile art those came directly from Viz. The pins were brought back from Japan by a friend of mine that used to do swap meets, so I'm certain those are legit as well.

I want people to know we check all the items on the silent auction table carefully, as it would be quite embarrassing if Fanime violated its own bootleg policies.

I wish I had red this before I left con, since I know I saw a booth selling bootleg My Little Pony plushies. I didn't buy any but I'm sure some other fans will be upset.

We were aware of these, but allowed them to stay as they were different from the licensed ones, did not bear any trademark id (Hasbro/My Little Pony) and they had proof that they were homemade like plushies found in the artist alley.

ive noticed a vendor selling Hallmark items re-wrapped and priced higher than the original MSRP...is that legit to do?

It is perfectly legit. That is how the entire collectors/vintage world works. Otherwise that Babe Ruth rookie card would still be worth only a penny.

There have been far too many arpakasso alpaca bootlegs. Only one stall sells legitimate ones (at a very good price at that).
That stall is the only one that carries the other signature Arpakasso/amuse product Wooly the sheep
http://d1nr5wevwcuzuv.cloudfront.net/product_photos/1903510/CIMG0126__E5_89_AF_E6_9C_AC_original.jpg

Although, someone from a fake-selling stall stopped me and took a picture of the one I was holding, so be on a look out for fake woolies in the coming years.

It's a real shame since I see so many girls buying out fake, wonky alpacas labeled as llamas for high prices than the real ones.
See: 35-38$ VS ~40$+

I was unaware that there was a brand behind these. I will see what I can do about controlling this issue in the future.

Dealers Room / Re: Times
May 20, 2014, 04:41:14 PM
Thanks keitoghostie. Those are the correct hours.

To be noted this year there will be two entrances to the Dealers Hall. The main entrance located on Hall 2 closest to Hall 3 will open at the daily start times.(It will have the grand archway) The other entrance door (Hall 1 closest to Marriott) will open an hour later. The exit will be Hall 1 across from Stage 0

Food court, artist gallery, and charity events will be in the portion of Hall 1 not being used by Dealers.
Unfortunately Food Court in the hall will close when Dealers Hall closes.

Sadly fanime has been crapping out on video gaming anything in the dealers hall. I really hope this year is different. Last thing i bought anything video gamish was a pink psp in 2007.   Thats kinda sad. Enough about the deadful past, i hope this year it redeems itself.

This year we have the return of Manga Gamer for your eroge needs.
We also have Once Upon A Video Game and Hot Toys joining us for classic and import games.
I hope this "redeems" us.  ;D

I believe the webteam is working on it currently. At the very least a list with links to company websites should be posted shortly.

I bought a counterfeits figma from abctoy4me last year...

Sorry to hear that but your not alone, I bought Claire (from Claymore) and it was also counterfeit. I should have checked my phone and see if it's official or not but I got a lot of mean looks from them saying "no photos". this was like.. 2-3 years ago.

There is an old saying once is a fluke. Twice is a coincedence. Three times is a pattern. I will personally go over their stock this year to keep a pattern from forming.

Unfortunately for 2013 we did not have a dedicated ocarina vendor. I'm happy to say that for this year STL Ocarina will be returning.

Omg this makes me really happy.
Would it be ok to store bigger props and such? One of my cosplays has a big prop and I know it'd be a hassle simply walking around with it so it'd be nice to just leave it somewhere safe when I want to relax/don't want to be all sorts of in the wall in the dealers hall haha

That would not be a problem. As long as it can fit through a doorway, we can store it. It would still cost the normal $3-5 depending on size. I did train my staff with the examples of Yoko's Rifle, or the Unit 00 Eva plug that was roaming around last year as examples.

Incredible Stuff I can Make / Re: DeviantArt

Being Dealers Head unfortunately means I can't apply for AA. Will try to get some stuff in Art Gallery. I do all sorts of stuff from jewelry to costuming.

Lately I've been on a real collage kick though. I make my collages mostly from origami papers for a light delicate feel.

As silly as it is I forgot to message our content department :P. Thanks for the reminder. Look to see it on the website soon. I had to hold off during the initial build because we were still finalizing details.
