Title: Ballroom Dancing
Post by: kontiveros on December 01, 2008, 12:08:04 PM
I was at Fanime this year and was not too impressed with the ballroom dance session that i went to. There was nothing wrong with the teacher but it was not the best way to start with beginners. I was thinking about seeing if there was any way I could be involved in or teach the ballroom dance lessons. I am currently a student at Chico State University and am in the Ballroom dance program. My partner and I are both excited about fanime and can't wait to get there! but if we could help out that would be great!

The ballroom dancing sessions are actually not panels, but workshops coordinated by the same people who coordinate the regular dance and the B&W ball, etc. I'm going to move this thread to the Live Programming and Events forum. They're more likely to see your request there.

Thanks for your response! We had two different dance instructors this past Fanime teaching various dances. I am curious as to who was your instructor and which lesson since I am always open to feedback on the event and the instructors.

If you are interested in helping out or becoming an instructor, feel free to email [email protected] and Jimmy, the BWBall Department 2nd, will get back to you about the requirements.

I'm planning on being the dance assistance again from the last fanime ballroom lesson for waltz and swing.  I'm not good at explaining everything if I were to be instructor but I can help the other few people based on my experienced taking ballroom dancing.

Is there a way we can have a dance workshop for non-beginners? That way people who are a bit more advanced can get together and practice their west coast or something?

We are still planning out how lessons and the B&W Ball will be for this upcoming FanimeCon.  We will take into consideration your ideas but as of right now, I don't have an answer in regards to having a lesson for experienced dancers.  As soon as I know something, I will let you know.

It would be awesome if there could be an open floor type thing... for west coast swing!  Or someone could spread the word that west coasters could gather at the sunday open floor thing.

...oh. my. god.  You are amazing!!!!!  I would be so honored if you would teach!!!  *bows repeatedly* I just started a little while ago.  I can do the basic steps but have not really done any styling or improv... which is most of what west coast is... still.  I can to some!  If the class thing doesn't work out you should definitely grace me with a dance at the ball!  That would be so wonderful!!!!!

Thanks.  I already emailed my request, so we'll see how that goes.  Worse comes to worse, I'll just hang around the open dance periods and work with people.
