Good lordy.  $9/gal??  That's INSANE.  I hope you guys have excellent public transportation.  I do remember an extreme fondness for the Tube when I was in London for a month for school.  I rode that thing everywhere.  Los Angeles needs one of those badly.

Well, I suppose gas would be tremendously cheap then for you, so if you really want to enjoy an SUV experience (I myself hate the things), and aren't driving excessively, go for it.   ;D

Do you know how much chainmail weighs? The real stuff?! I don't think I can afford the luggage weight excess!

And you don't mean the right side of the road - you mean the wrong side of the road ;) I'll be fine. I can't wait to try my hand at driving in the states. As long as I don't get an automatic and as long as the car is a HUGE thing. Can't go to the USA and drive a pokey Japanese city car now, can I ? XD
LOL, sure, if you want to spend your entire travel budget on gasoline.  It's up to about $3.50/gallon now.

From the aspect of just randomly out of the blue glomping yeah it's not cool to some people. Just realize that it is apart of fanime tradition...hell any anime convention tradition (hey that rhymes lol) and we should take that away from other people. I like to be glomped because it shows that I got a kick ass costume and people like it. I know I don't want to be put into some "glomp corner." Lets say for example that does happen, then you know their are going to be that groups of people that are going to to say f@#k this and break from that so called glomp barrier. It's not because "these people" are weird and want to be seen as weird. It's just something that goes on at anime conventions.
I don't think an activity that hurts quite a few people and aggravates injury or an intrusion of space should be a part of any "tradition."  Just because it's a considered a tradition doesn't mean it should automatically be accepted or tolerated.  Most of the people in this thread have said they really don't like unasked-for glomping, so why should we have to put up with it just because it's "tradition"?  I think anime cons really need to address this problem before some gets hurt really bad--either the glompee, or the glomper from someone punching their lights out after glomping.

You shower often and have a British accent? Oh, you're in for trouble ... :D
Seriously.  Showering alone would be a plus, but add the whammy of a British accent?  You might need to bring a baseball bat (cricket bat?) to keep everyone off of you. :D

If you're just flying in for the con, there's lots of places to eat around the con and cars are not necessary at all if you're staying on site.  And I see you have friends, so hopefully they will take you to all the cool places around the Bay Area, especially San Francisco.  May is a nice time to come visit--it's usually not very hot at all, and it should be nice and sunny.

Hopefully you have a pleasant visit and you don't run into too many obnoxious-type Americans.  I suggest trying Mexican food (if you haven't already had good Mexican food) while you're here. (note:  Taco Bell/Del Taco/Chipotle does not count as Mexican food)

I hope she gets reported this year and kicked out of the con since she obviously doesn't care how people feel about being mauled/attacked.

i'd rather someone get kicked out of somewhere for what they DO as opposed to what they THINK.
I didn't say as soon as I get to the con, I'm going to report her for doing nothing just because of what she did last year.  I'm saying if she continues to act irresponsibly (highly likely, since she deleted every negative comment from her video), even though people have told her this action is not welcomed by everyone, then I hope she gets reported and banned from the con.

What's bad is if you read the comments from the youtube video, people are going, "OMG, that's so cool, I'm going to do this, too!!" which means we might have even more inconsiderate glompers running around this year.  I swear, if anyone tries doing this to me, unasked, they're going to get a hard shove in the face and/or a cussfest.
Several people posted more serious comment too, myself included. You know, telling about the serious side of glomping and all that and to ask permission and blah blah blah. She deleted those comments.  >:(
But all the comments she kept were all the "omg kawaii awesome" fangirly comments, and those comments worry me....
Well, that sounds encouraging. /sarcasm  I hope she gets reported this year and kicked out of the con since she obviously doesn't care how people feel about being mauled/attacked.

If you want to glomp or be glomped, that's fine, but PLEASE be respectful towards those of us who do NOT.  I don't want to hit anyone, but out of reflex I might, if someone surprise jumps me.

Update on this.

I've told the powers that be that you all demanded 'girl-fitted' shirts among other apparel (not related to this). I'm going to assume that they're going to be in various colors (probably the same colors as our regular shirts), but I'll give an update when I can.

I'm just the messenger and can only do so much though. :)
Wooo!  Thanks for at least trying, and responding to our pleas!  Let's hope they listen.

Uh, why is Fanime SO far away  :(
I can't hardly wait.
Seriously.  Now that I've pre-reged, it makes it that much worse.

I think the site is a little too pink. Since the theme is Feudal Japan, there are a lot more colors to work with..

The menu layout is awkward. There are a lot of good suggestions on this, so I won't comment further..
Oh, yes, now that I know the theme is Feudal Japan, the site is a bit pink for that.  I thought the theme was more Summer Festivals.

For Feudal Japan, I would think darker, earthier tones would be better.

And I agree, the scrolling needs to be smoother and less awkward.

Looking forward to PreReg going up!

I say go American Apparel.  They have good quality T's (it's what Threadless, Noisebot, and my friends use, when they make their own shirts), and they have girl cut T's.

Also, one of my old Fanime shirts was from AA (2003 pattern), and it fits great.

Hi!  The site looks so pretty!  Thanks for a good job!

Okay, I have two observations:

1)  The forum button still doesn't work.  The website that pops up into the address box is "http://www.fanime.com/events/www.forums.fanime.com" instead of "http://forums.fanime.com"

2)  Unless my screen is full size (which it usually isn't at work), I can't see the whole page (at first I couldn't even find the forums button).  The scroll bar doesn't work.  It's only for my Mozilla Firefox browser though.  I just tried IE, and that seems to work, although the front page buttons are under the ninja girl, instead of on the right hand side of the screen like it is in Mozilla.

Take care of yourself, and I hope everything is okay.

Okay, now that the new site is up, I LOVE the characters and the theme for next year's Fanime.  AND I would REALLY REALLY love to have a GIRL CUT SHIRT for 2008.  Not a Youth Large (that's a boycut shirt, and too boxy).  The last two years have had only Youth Large, and I cannot wear those because the fit is terrible.  I'm not spending $20 on a shirt that doesn't fit.

Please, whoever is in charge of making shirts, make sure there are girl cuts shirts available.  Anime is one geeky con that has a plethora of girls, and I know I'm not the only one who would like a better fitting shirt.

Fanime 2003-2005 I know had girl cut shirts.  What happened?

Please, if you have to hold it in a small room again, to make sure to adjust for volume.  Some of the AMVs were extremely loud, and I had to cover my ears through them.

Like others have said, AX is manga whereas we're doujinshi. We are what we are. As long as people keep going to our con and enjoy their experience, we'll work to better our own con and not worry about having to compete with AX.
I completely agree.  Which is why I liked attending both this year.  Between the two, everything was covered satisfactorily for this geek girl.  ^_^
