... Yeah, Thursday night we started a bit late because of registration hiccups (about 45 minutes late). Moving it up to 5:30 might work, but only for Thursday, since I believe the dealers hall is open until 7 PM on Friday and the swap meet can't be open while the dealers hall is.

Is there a reason why swap meet and dealer's hall can't be opened at the same time?

Someone told me it was based on day.

Thursday was the penguin.

I don't know about the others however.

Nope. Lots of people picked up Thursday and didn't get penguin

I think it depended on which person helped you out at registration. I went to one guy to pick up for a group of 9 and all our badges were printed out in front of me and we all got the shirtless blonde guy.

To justanother, I totally agree with you, but as mentioned before it's hard to determine the 'standards' for what 'sexualization of children' should be. Should it be limited to age? Their body? And/or both? And should it be limited to depictions of them that obviously promote the idea of sexualization, or should we include them wearing revealing outfits that were meant to be cute?

In my opinion, I don't think Fanime should fully ban it, but they should putting more restrictions. Maybe making theaters/panels that have any of this content should be restricted for 16+ and/or 18+ (although, making it 18+ kind of promotes the idea of pedophilia more, but that's a different story.) But doing this goes back to the set of standards again. What should the standards be?

Registration / Re: Group Registration Designation

I have the same question too! I already paid for everyone in my group and whatnot but I still can't figure out how to designate the group pick-up person Dx

Sounds like a fun idea, but you also have to take into consideration the possibilities of cheating such as a group of friends just making cosplays of whatever is on the checklist. Although, almost impossible, it's still probable hahah.

There's also the possibility that no one cosplays as whatever is on the checklist, although I think that'd be near to impossible to. Maybe, to make it a little easier, it should be staff/volunteers cosplaying, but they'd have something that no other cosplayer would have (wrong color costume, crazy hair, crossplaying?) Like something totally random. That way, the judging might be easier to since all they have to do is recognize the person that is cosplaying.

Hey guys! I know I'm doing my cosplay really really late but I'm planning to cosplay as Princess Yue from Avatar: The Last Airbender and I'm looking for a long white wig similar to her hair. Please give me your offer and/or what you're willing to trade for.

I also happen to have a long auburn wig just in case anyone is interested ^_^ I used it as Juliet for my Romeo x Juliet cosplay

Quote from: nemuneko on June 01, 2011, 11:35:40 PMParking/Security: Does anyone know if you can get someone from the con or hotel (like security) to escort you to your car late at night? I drive in from Benicia and usually go back to my car late at night to go home (past midnight when the events we are interested in are over) when a lot of weirdos are out. It seemed like there were more shady people than usual (ghetto, "gangsta"-looking guys in large groups taking up the whole sidewalk that made insulting comments at us, scuzzy-looking (homeless, I'm guessing) people (one of which was peeing all over a pillar in clear view), a few hookers (yes, hookers), etc., that were clearly not part of the con) hanging out a couple blocks from the convention center where we usually park and it was only my female friend and me on Saturday, so I felt a bit paranoid walking there with no other con-goers around. It honestly makes me want to carry pepper spray. Next year, I'll try parking in the parking garages that are closer to the convention center, but since we get there relatively late in the day on the busiest days because the main events we are interested in aren't until late afternoon to evening, it's hard to find close parking at times. For future reference, though, I'm curious if there are people who can escort you to your car at night. If not, then I think it would be a great idea to offer that as a service in future years for those who have to park further away and don't have a group of people to go back with to the parking lot late at night to go home. It would be a huge help.

I completely agree. My friend and I were very disconcerted walking to our car in the 2nd & San Carlos garage on Saturday around 3AM. We could clearly hear shouting and violence further down the road (some gangbangers screaming "die m********** die!" and then when we tried to get in the elevator at the garage a homeless guy jumped out at us, so we bolted up the stairs. I don't know whats happened to San Jose since it used to be one of the safest cities in the country, but things are getting scary down there around con time and it's hard to feel safe. I'm definitely considering hotel next year even though i only live 15 minutes away from the con by car, just because of the poor experience with the parking experience downtown this year.

A suggestion (if possible) is maybe Fanime should advertise some kind of escorting services? Like maybe talk to the SJ Police Department and see if they have some sort of service available to escort people to their cars. You can charge a fee if you have to, just anything along of the lines of being able to walk with someone at night would be something good that Fanime can offer if possible.

Some people have already mentioned that AA registration should be combined with the Fanime badge so I'm not even going to mention that. I also agree with updating all the websites. It's unfair to the people that have been hovering over the main website when the link to the AA registration was posted at places that are more "underground."

I do have a suggestion: Can we move the Gaming Room to Exhibit Hall 1 (2011 Artist Alley) and more Artist Alley to Exhibit Hall 2 (2011 Dealers) or 3 (2011 Gaming Room)? I'm leaning more towards Exhibit Hall 2 so that the Gaming Room can be moved to Exhibit Hall 1 (the smallest room) and the Dealers can be moved to Exhibit Hall 3 (the biggest room). I don't see why the Gaming Room needs so much room, no offense :I

ranting time!

SCHEDULES. Seems like everyone was frustrated about this, but I might as well put my input. As an artist at artist alley, it was difficult to decide when to leave my booth and when to stay. I actually missed out on a lot of things I wanted to do just because I didn't have a schedule with me. I'm all for "going green" and "save paper" mumbo jumbo, but if you're going to print out the Fanime booklets that they gave out to the pre-registers, why not just print the schedule out in there? As long as you plan ahead, everything should be okay. Maybe even make small Fanime booklets that can fit in your pocket. I think they did it one year and I LOVED IT.

SCHEDULING. (Different from schedules :P) I'm pretty sure staff members thought about this a lot more thoroughly than I did, but might as well put my input. Why were big events like the B&W Ball and the Masquerade scheduled at the same time?! Couldn't it have been possible to make the big off-site events like B&W Ball, Masquerade, and the music concert thing on different days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday?).

DANCING. No offense, but I'm not a big fan of techno music. The only dancing I enjoy is to "booty-popping music" LOL. I know there's clubs in Downtown SJ that play that music, but it would be more convenient for me to just dance at Fanime xD Anyways, the closest thing to "booty-popping" music was the Asian Pop (which I don't really mind dancing to, btw), bu it was during the B&W ball. Since all the other dancing times were techno, I just wished the Asian Pop dances were NOT during B&W ball because it prevented me from attending it. And maybe later in the night too, not at 6pm when no one really dances lol.

STAFF. Oh my gawd, staff. I believe this year wins for RUDEST STAFF MEMBERS. I understand some staff personal have to be mean every now and then to make sure everything runs smoothly, but I felt like some staff members got power hungry. I can't think of a specific example at the moment because not all of them were bad ... but I remember being irked at staff for part of the con.

TABLETOP GAMING. Someone mentioned this already but YES, PLEASE GET MORE TABLES! And possibly more cards for Bingo?! :D I wasn't able to play :(

GAMES. MORE CRANE MACHINES PLEASEEEE! So sad that one of the only two crane machines kept breaking, so I had to suffice with the candy crane machine :[

CON-GOERS. There's not really anything Fanime could do about this, but I would like to rant a little. Even though I'm happy Fanime is becoming bigger, a lot of the con-goers are getting a lot ruder. A girl almost hit hit me while she was trying to put a box on her head. Her friend told her "be careful, you might hit someone" and she just replied saying, "That's their own fault." I'm sorry if you were STANDING IN THE WALKWAY AND YOUR BOXHEAD GOT IN MY WAY. I was ready to rip that box off her head.

According to my local BoE office, you call them and have the con's address temporarily added.

Would you know if they'll send me a new permit or just list the temporary address in their files?
I know it takes awhile for the permit to be sent to your door and even if I call in tomorrow I highly doubt I'll get the permit before Fanime (should've thought about this earlier) T^T

I'm still planning to call in tomorrow, but I'm anxious and would rather know tonight and go straight to the office tomorrow than to call in tomorrow then go there after :P

I have a permanent seller's permit but it shows my my home address. Do I have to get a new seller's permit for the convention's address?
