It's a woman's style (v-neck) in small that I got outside of the dealers.  It doesn't stretch that much.

Who is this Doctor Who cosplayer?  (not my flickr, I hope the person doesn't mind)

I only had time to take one picture with him and then had to run off.  I just wanted to tell him how dreamy he looks :<

Someone mentioned something about shoes for the ladies. I don't know if this is worth suggesting, but is there a way we can discourage girls from wearing super stilettos? I got heeled during the dance and when high heel meets foot, it hurts like hell. Just wanted to add that in to prevent and accidents.

A new rule was added into the dress code about stilettos (defined as any shoe with a heel that comes to a point).  This was more about the dangers of the small gaps in the floor though.  Heels in general (flat, flared, etc.) are allowed regardless (although I don't remember if there was limit in height...whatever you can handle I suppose). Getting heeled by any type of heel hurts like hell anyway, heh.

Also, thank you for the ranking!  It is highly appreciated.

This is a bit of a long shot, but here goes.  I was in lolita on Monday, with a long blond wig, a white blouse, a pink skirt, and carrying a pink bunny backpack.  A couple of people took my picture, but I didn't ask for any contact info.

Also, I remember seeing you on Monday, Inuashley!  I knew that floral dress had to be from Liz Lisa, heh.

Actually, for traveling dances (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, etc.), more advanced dancers usually dance towards the outside because they can travel more.  If you are going to stay in one spot with slow dancing, try going towards the center to avoid being run into.

As Okach mentioned, there will be experienced dancers there to help only if you want to learn a dance and ask.  It would be helpful to make it to at least one ballroom lesson even if you aren't interested in learning a dance because most of the BWBall rules would be covered in the first 5 to 10 minutes.

Overall, nobody is going to force you to do strictly ballroom at the ball.  As long as you follow the rules and are considerate, you'll be fine.

Tennis shoes will most likely grip the floor.  While your sister might be used to them, turns might be difficult, especially when she already has medical issues (physical, I am assuming?)

Unless she NEEDS the grippage of the shoes to stay on her feet and not fall down, please try this trick my teacher uses all the time - put some duct tape on the widest part of the shoes.  This will provide some slipperage and at least make turning easier.

Here are a few more tips about shoes with regards to dancing in general:

- Shoes must stay on your feet.  For some dances, the ladies will be walking backwards a lot.  This will be very difficult and unsafe if the shoes flop around and do not stay on your feet.

- If you plan on wearing heels, please wear a pair with a height that you are comfortable with.  You could be wearing the cutest shoes ever, but if you can't walk in them, you certainly won't be able to dance in them.  If you do want to wear heels or higher ones, start practicing now!

- Make sure your shoes allow you to turn/spin freely on the dance floor.  The dance steps taught at the lessons will most likely be very basic, but there might be turns.  Running and tennis shoes tend to grip the floor, and if you try to turn in them, you could twist your ankle.

Viennese Waltz (at least the one I am thinking of, danced to really fast music) is, in my experience...really hard ._. The music is almost stupidly fast and it is very easy to get offsync with your partner.

Last year I tried teaching the reverse turn (left) and it was a disaster because I didn't want to introduce the Viennese cross.  Next year, if I get the chance again, I'll be sure to teach the natural turn (right), which doesn't have the cross and at least will travel in the right direction even when not done perfectly.

As for other dances, I agree that Merengue is something that is easy and fun.  Lindy is fun too, but the Lindy whip can be difficult to understand.  One dance I want to introduce is Samba, at least to those who are willing.  The rhythm might be hard for some people and it is not an easy dance, but I am hoping at least some might be interested.

Ming-Sum here, one of the instructors.

I see that most of the issues have been addressed, so I will only add on to a few of them.  I believe that a separate floor would be discouraging to newer dancers who might feel they are not worthy of being on the "real" floor.  If we had a bigger floor, then there should be enough room for people who wants to do their own thing in the middle while still leaving enough room on the outer edge for people traveling in the line of dance.  Perhaps it could be marked in some way.  However, if people are just standing in the middle of the floor talking to friends, then we should ask them to get off, as that is a real hazard.

Also, if it's possible, it might be nice to have a poster with the rules printed to remind the attendees of the rules of conduct.  If we can get a boombox, we can just record ourselves reading them out and playing the recording over and over again for the people standing in line before going into the ballroom.  Hopefully this will make the evening more enjoyable for everyone.

Lastly, I would like to say thank you to the heads, instructors/assistants, and all of those who attended the ball.  It was a fun-filled night that I am sure most people enjoyed.

I don't know how many people in this thread will recognize/remember me, but I am Ming-Sum (Miki) and I talked to a few of the people from the Gaming department at the last meeting.

How long do you guys think the IIDX tournament will take?  How many songs will be played before someone is officially out?  I might have to be at the BWBall at 6, so hopefully it won't take long.

Also, I'll be practicing for the RPS tournament.  I suggest all of you who wishes to enter do so as well :|
