I'm incredibly sorry about selections being late guys,  I'm still trying to get my hands on all the applications, they haven't been forwarded to me yet.
#3
I wouldn't worry about it too much in your promo submission as long as your mix isn't thoroughly laced with profanity, etc.

Hey yo! So I have a question.

With following the Fanime Con guidelines how much swearing is allowed? I am working on a few mashups that have some swear words and I want to figure out how much is allowed before submitting my set. I am used to DJ'in mature crowds that don't have to many restrictions so as to stick to Fanime's family friendly vibe  what is the line I can't cross.

Thanks!

If it could be offensive to anyone, it shouldn't be played at the Fanime dance. Extreme amounts of swearing, any drug references, or sexualized material are frowned upon since the dance is not an 18+ event.

And if you're so worried about counterfeiters, why not create some security features onto your badge?  You don't need to buy hologram stickers, but there are ways of inserting sneaky little features into your documents that counterfeiters may not notice in a 3-4 week interval, and many of these cost little to implement.  Things like dry seals would be cheap to create and difficult to counterfeit, especially in a 3 week interval.

Steps are already being taken to stop counterfeiters, but I believe the current measures probably would be easily broken within a 3 week period pre-con. I'm not sure, however, that counterfeiters would be a severe enough problem? If it comes down to that, then it might be worth looking into protecting the more lucrative events with specific tickets a-la AX, as much as I'd hate that.

As far as mailing badges goes, though, it saddens me that Fanime does not do this yet. Some larger and some smaller cons manage to do it and don't seem to have too many problems (from an outsider POV). There's gotta be a better way, whether it be an emailed barcode like AX (who's system still leaves a lot to be desired, though it processes more people than Fanime's), or straight up mailing badges like ACen and many major comic conventions. Worst case scenario, to cover for fibbers that lie about USPS losing their badges, delivery confirmation/tracking would have to be used and incorporated into the mailing cost. Anything with a worth of ~$50 or more should be signed for by somebody who picks it up, anyways (in my oh so humble opinion).

i loved the stuff that you both played (directed to eHash & Empathy)  ;D
Luckily i went on your soundcloud page Empathy and found a mix and I think you played some of the songs from that mix, if not the entire mix. But I don't think i could find any downloadable stuff from your soundcloud eHash :/. Also if i'm missing some juicy stuff, or really anything that was played either friday or saturday id love to add it to my repertoire of muzikz xD

i played a segment of my demomix for hardcore on saturday night (omitted the redalice track at the end). Sunday I only played Fire Fire from the hard dance mix, the rest was omitted for other tracks as far as i can remember.

I can probably remember about 50-70% of what i played. Completely forgot to save my history files after my sets. DERP.

Also any Happy Hardcore would be appreciated.

I'll be playing a lot of UK Hardcore, AniCore, and J-Core, as will Djet0. Definitely come check out my saturday night performance, or his saturday evening one!

Lol, I can tell you guys S3RL tracks are definitely pushing the limits of what's appropriate for us to play, but I'll see what I can work in to my late night set.
Also, I thought it would be okay since I heard "Crazy Ass Bitch" last year.
::)

well, as much as I like it...

I won't be playing Hardcore on sunday in the J, probably. I'll be keeping in in the 140-150 range with tech/hard dance and hardstyle.

Quote from: nemuneko on June 01, 2011, 11:35:40 PMParking/Security: Does anyone know if you can get someone from the con or hotel (like security) to escort you to your car late at night? I drive in from Benicia and usually go back to my car late at night to go home (past midnight when the events we are interested in are over) when a lot of weirdos are out. It seemed like there were more shady people than usual (ghetto, "gangsta"-looking guys in large groups taking up the whole sidewalk that made insulting comments at us, scuzzy-looking (homeless, I'm guessing) people (one of which was peeing all over a pillar in clear view), a few hookers (yes, hookers), etc., that were clearly not part of the con) hanging out a couple blocks from the convention center where we usually park and it was only my female friend and me on Saturday, so I felt a bit paranoid walking there with no other con-goers around. It honestly makes me want to carry pepper spray. Next year, I'll try parking in the parking garages that are closer to the convention center, but since we get there relatively late in the day on the busiest days because the main events we are interested in aren't until late afternoon to evening, it's hard to find close parking at times. For future reference, though, I'm curious if there are people who can escort you to your car at night. If not, then I think it would be a great idea to offer that as a service in future years for those who have to park further away and don't have a group of people to go back with to the parking lot late at night to go home. It would be a huge help.

I completely agree. My friend and I were very disconcerted walking to our car in the 2nd & San Carlos garage on Saturday around 3AM. We could clearly hear shouting and violence further down the road (some gangbangers screaming "die m********** die!" and then when we tried to get in the elevator at the garage a homeless guy jumped out at us, so we bolted up the stairs. I don't know whats happened to San Jose since it used to be one of the safest cities in the country, but things are getting scary down there around con time and it's hard to feel safe. I'm definitely considering hotel next year even though i only live 15 minutes away from the con by car, just because of the poor experience with the parking experience downtown this year.
