can anyone give me advice regarding having fans take pictures WITH you? (or when you, as a fan, take pictures with cosplayers) i know there are some fans who sometimes ask to take pictures with a cosplayer.  this one time i asked to take a picture with pyramid head (like standing next to him) and afterward he kinda invaded my private space a bit.  i've had some cosplayers politely ask if they can place a hand on my shoulder or something (like the one time i was dressed as yuna and asked a tidus cosplayer to take a pic with me.  it was appropriate for a "couple" like pictures and he didn't go any further than that), but the pyramid head was a bit...much.  (and yes, i know it's pyramid head of all people.  but still. not very cool).  are there any precautions to accepting fans (or even photographers for that matter) taking pictures with you?

this is more of a question regarding the bxw dance lessons
it says that the dance lesson attire is casual, but is it ok if i wear my cosplay to the dance lesson?  it's a really simple cosplay that won't get in the way at all and i don't really wanna have to change out of it and then into it again

I come bearing good news!
I'm posting for my forum-phobic friend who works at PikaPika, the purikura place, in San Francisco's Japantown.

This year PikaPika will be at Fanime in the Artist Alley for your purikura enjoyment! They'll be bringing two machines, Fuvi and a new machine Himeryu. Some things to note:
- There will be a PikaPika employee present at all times. They'll be able to help you work the machines, so don't be afraid if you've never used one before or can't read japanese.
- The machines DO have basic english instructions as well.
- No food or drink in the machines please.
- Bring plenty of dollar bills.
- The machines will be there Saturday and Sunday for sure, details are still being worked out for the other days, I'll get back to you all when information is available.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll pass them on to my friend to be answered as soon as possible.

coooooool!!
but how are they gonna regulate it?  is there gonna be a line and time limit?  the last time i was at pikapika and my friends and i did purikura we sat and decorate the pix for nearly half an hour.  but i doubt we'd be able to do that at fanime unless there's like nobody there

General Convention Discussion / Special Guests?
April 26, 2009, 10:17:49 AM
Can anyone tell me when and where the info for special guests will located?  This is the first time I'm going to any special guest meeting/panel.  Last year I wanted to meet the GAINAX crew and I searched everywhere to find out how to meet them but by the time I found out it was already too late :/ I didn't realize I had to buy tickets from the box office.  This year I want to meet the producer who's coming from GAINAX but I'm not sure how or where to see him.

When are these hotel deposits taken?  Is it when you check-in or before that?  I gave my debit card number when I made reservations and I want to make sure there's enough money in there in case they do take a deposit.
The deposit hold that we're referring to is put on there when you first check in.

Some hotels will place a hold for one night when you put in your reservation though. It's best just to ask them about this.

If the hold is on a debit card, it won't cause your account to go overdraft unless it turns into an actual 'charge'. BTW, your account won't go into the negative due to a credit, but if your balance is at zero due to a hold, spending money might cause you to overdraft.

oh ok. thanks for clearing that up.

I've really been into Lolita fashion for years and I do understand that it's fashion and not meant to be cosplay.  I really don't mind the lolified naruto characters actually.  A while back I would be offended about it and how people are butchering the fashion and stuff.  (I was pretty elitist, too, going on about "real" lolitas and what not) I would've been offended because people would look at that and go "Oh, so THAT's lolita", thinking that it was cosplay with too much lace when it isn't and fear the moment when someone looks at me in what would be considered the "appropriate lolita fashion" and place me at the same level as those cosplay lolitas.  But now I don't care.  People may look at me and compare me to those cosplay lolitas and get the wrong idea, but so what?  I don't expect everyone to be so knowledgeable about everything regarding lolita.  I dress lolita for myself, regardless if anyone cares or knows what it is.  I think it's fun, and I think those lolitafied characters and that gangster mario are fun, too.  I don't take them seriously.  I wouldn't doubt them if they made it tacky on purpose with the cheap lace and materials.  Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they even did it to make fun of lolitas.
