I don't know if it's been mentioned, but if you plan on going to Safeway or any other shop to buy food, bring some tote bags, or be prepared to pay 10 cents per bag.

A lot of people that want to get a room want to stay at the Marriott or Hilton because its in the con and they don't have to walk anywhere else.

I'm so sorry if you guys are on waiting list because I got a room at the Fairmont and I live in San Jose. My wife and I want to get a room at Fanime because we want to get the full experience of the Con.
Excuse me, but what exactly are you trying to say? It's quite obvious people want to stay at the Hilton and Marriott for obvious reasons.

Now, you got a room at the Fairmont. Congrats. I myself got a room at the Sainte Claire, but got waitlisted to add Thursday night to my stay.

Irrelevant post is irrelevant

Weren't you supposed to have registered AND paid on the last day last year to get the low price?

If you have the whole deposit amount available on that card, then it should be OK for use. You can always pay the deposit in cash.

Yup, I saw that too. It's nice to see that the community is helping each other out in this regard.

Dumb-down version for anyone else reading this::::

$89 a night but if you don't pay, they get to keep teh $100/night you had to let them hold on to...
Isn't the deposit held for incidental charges, i.e. room service, room damage, etc.?

I was looking for a Hilton room as well. Because of the housing link mixup, I had to settle for a Friday-Monday stay at the Saint Claire instead of a Thursday-Monday stay at the Hilton or Marriott. Shoot, I'd be happy with a Thursday-Monday at the Saint Claire as well. I ended up emailing CMR/Fanime Housing to see if I can be put on a waitlist.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: FanimeCon 2013 Hotel Room Prices
« on: January 24, 2013, 01:48:03 PM »
LAST YEAR, my group and I booked the FAIRMONT 1 BEDROOM SUITE w/ king bed for $204/night. This included a living room and a bedroom per the official Fairmonth website. This room was around 900 sq ft which is double that of a normal king bedded room. Now at the size, it was understandable that the price was 204, because it was like paying for two rooms. THIS YEAR, I've noticed that there are two 1-BEDROOM SUITES available via the Fanime Housing site and the one with King bed is priced at $89 and Two-beds priced at $115. Either this is a ridiculous drop or discount in prices...or maybe there is some discrepancy Fanime needs to address. PLEASE SOMEONE RESPOND TO ME ABOUT THIS MATTER.

I called Fanime Housing directly, and the person I spoke to didn't seem to know what he was talking about. He just said that whatever price is listed, that is the priced negotiated with the Hotel, which is understandable, but it just doesn't make sense.

I've booked the same room at Fanime for 3 years in a row's always been 1-bedroom suite at the Fairmont at >200 dollars. Could some please explain the prices this time around?

Below are the room descriptions per the Fairmont hotel. Note that their suites are much much more expensive than their regular rooms.

Guest Rooms :

Those are the prices for regular guest rooms. I stayed in the Fairmont last year in the $89/night room, and it was just a normal guest room.

Wait until tomorrow to register. It's pretty self-explanatory. Or do you need a step-by-step tutorial?

I just realized that my posts in this thread have come off really pessimistic regarding the issue at hand. And for that, I will apologize. I hope that last year's wait times do not happen again this time. I was having my patience tested last year, but I also understood that these things unfortunately happen.

(From this point on, when referring you 'you,' I am referring to Fanime staff)

There are so many ways that the line issue can be resolved, and I don't quite understand why so many of them are dismissed. I guess that brings up a slew of 'why' questions...

-Why do you not want to mail badges out?
-Why were you so unprepared last year?
-Why weren't the Day 0 problems resolved for people getting badges Friday or Saturday?
and so on.

Will these, and other, questions ever be honestly answered? Probably not. And that's sad.

I like how the 'By fans, for fans' thing was brought up, because it really doesn't seem like those words are being upheld. We, the fans, deserve to get, if anything, answers to our questions. Simple vague apologies don't really cut it anymore. Last year had the badging fiasco, and this year is off to an extremely slow start. Yes, the power problems weren't your fault, but there were things under your control that weren't resolved in a timely manner.

Meh. I'm rambling. I need food.

What were the complaints about the line last year? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the biggest complaint was the fact that people had to wait X amount of hours in line. Yes, there were power issues, and printer issues, and other stuff going on, but things happen. Like I've said before, if you're gonna be all like, "ZOMG, I haz 2 wait here 4 s0 l0ng because t3h linez iz t00 l0ngggg," get there earlier.

Last year was the worst I've heard it's ever been. Hopefully the staff will do a better job preparing the badges this year. I've had friends who've pre-registered, only to end up with a paper badge instead of the color one. To me, the only justified complaints are the ones pertaining to registration itself--not the line.

I still think that the basis of this thread is to gather deposit prices. That screencap would've been more beneficial in this thread,17727.20.html

I don't remember seeing any last year. I think it's a niche that a lot of girls aren't into. I wouldn't mind seeing some ganguro this year for a change of pace.

Things in the Universe / Re: People who blast music from their cars
« on: January 22, 2013, 11:21:23 PM »
Even when its music I like, if I can feel it in my butt, it's too loud.
So is it the volume, or the SPL (sound pressure level) that bothers you? Blaring music in any car will sound like crap. Stock speakers will sound distorted, and those with many subwoofers will be drowned out by the bass.

In my Mini Cooper, I have an upgraded head unit, speakers, and a 500W amp pushing a 10" subwoofer. It was mainly done so that music can be heard the way it was supposed to. Most basic speakers simply cannot come close to the tonal range that the songs are recorded in. All music benefits from additional bass and treble to make the music sound fuller. As for my sub, I can have the music at a totally reasonable volume and still be able to differentiate the highs, mids, and lows. Also, you will fell my sub in the seats, but the pressure won't crush your skull unless I turn up the subwoofer level, and let's face it, no matter what it is you listen to, there are just those songs that beg more MOAR BASS.

But I digress. It is my opinion that those who blare their music are looking for attention more than anything.

There is really no way to reduce the lines. If a thousand people want to wait in line for badges, a thousand people will wait in line for badges. The only thing the staff can really do is watch out for people trying to cut in line, and maintain safety.

It's highly unlikely that they would be willing to send badges out via USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. I'm sure people would be willing to spend a little extra on their badges for this convenience, but having to maintain a record of tracking numbers for delivery confirmation purposes would be a burden.

In a nutshell, if you want you badge on Day 0, wait in line. Get there early for a shorter wait.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Does the Hilton allow pizza delivery?

This kind of makes me want to offer pizza delivery services. I tend to run out of things to do or see around 7 or 8 each night of the con. I would have to require a convenience charge though. LOL
