HOTEL NAME: Fairmont

WOULD YOU BOOK NEXT YEAR: Yes, but we won't next year because we have connections at the Marriott

PROS: Free business Wi-Fi for signing up for the President's Club, which is also free, President's Club-exclusive check in/out area can save time, not too far from the SJCC or Tech Museum, LodgeNet app for iPhone/Android lets you control your TV from anywhere and works faster than the remote, TVs have 2 HDMI and one component video input with easy access to using them

CONS: Bathroom had no vent fan, someone yacked in one of the ice rooms and left towels down to cover it up, one valet parking guy was a total jerk by instantly writing up a valet ticket even though I said I was just unloading, and we asked for a luggage trolley only to have them give it to someone else when I left to park my car.

Just a heads up for those con-goers who plan on leaving Monday...

The parking garage above Psycho Donuts leaves their gates open until 11PM on Monday because of Memorial Day. I parked my car there Thursday afternoon and left Monday morning without having to pay anything. I stayed at the Fairmont and only had to walk 2 blocks to get to the hotel. If you're staying at the Marriott, it's about the same amount of walking. Just pull up to the hotel, have a friend watch your stuff, park and return to check in.

I know that someone posted this same tip before, but I thought I'd give it a shot myself before proving or disproving their post.

So in a nutshell, free parking in the garage above Psycho Donuts!

I was wearing a sliver Guy Manuel (Daft Punk) helmet with a black suit on Friday. I think that's the only copslay I did where people wanted pictures.

Sad that Beatmania IIDX wasn't there.

-Arcade games. Would've like to see Beatmania IIDX though
-People were generally friendly
-Starbucks served at the Hilton
-Access to lightrail (My group went to Mountain View to eat irrationally large bowls of pho)
-Pocket schedule

-Day 0 badge fiascos
-Rude Rovers
-People posing in the walkways of Artist Alley and Dealer Hall
-People staring at my girlfriends chest, both when we were walking around together or when she was sitting down
-Elitists on the DDR, ParaPara, Technicka, and DancemaniaX machines, saying that beginners shouldn't be allowed to play
-Price of in-con food (although the 2-for-1 drinks at the taiyaki booth was super-welcome)
-People still don't understand the benefits of proper hygiene
-Poor organization
-Guests, panels, etc. were announced only days before the con

For my first Fanime since 2001, this was fun. I know my girlfriend and I will be back next year, but for how long is still up in the air. Hopefully guests, panels, etc. will be announced a lot quicker next time, as opposed to days before doors open.

Couples: I understand that they like to bring their partner to a weekend con and get bonded closer or share their interests but there were too many of them and it was hard to spot or know who was single or not. I bet many people tried to approach that pretty girl or cute guy but then their partner suddenly appear and give them a kiss so you had to back off and turn around. That was especially a harsh time for single people at the B&W Ball who tried to seek someone to get to know.
Is this really a problem? I don't mean to bash you, but a comment like this makes it sound like you don't want couples to attend together at all. Fanime is a convention for people to gather together and enjoy commonalities. It's not an orgy.

And now I'll make my comments.

CREEPERS AND PEOPLE WHO STARE: I've noticed people, on many occasions, staring at my girlfriend's chest. I understand that she's super-busty and can't hide it well, especially when she was wearing her corset or her Maya Fey cosplay, but come on. Sneaking a peek is one thing, but when I'm looking at your looking at her cleavage, there are problems.

ROVERS: For the most part, they were OK, but Sunday night, I came across this burly Caucasian rover that yelled at my group when we were standing just outside of Stage Zero. He yelled at us, saying that we have to get out of the walkway when there was a group of about 20+ people 5 feet away from us taking pictures.

PEOPLE WHO TAKE PICTURES IN THE DEALER'S HALL AND ARTIST ALLEY: There were many places you could've gone to take pictures, especially in the corners of the rooms. This was especially a problem Friday and Saturday during the times with the most traffic.

PEOPLE CUTTING IN LINE DURING BADGE PICKUP ON DAY ZERO: There were a lot of Rovers out, but they really couldn't stop the cutters. I've seen people saying they left line to put their stuff away in their rooms, and when they returned, they had absolutely no shortness of breath or signs of sweating, even when they said they had to RUN back to the con so they wouldn't lose their place in line.

There's more that I can complain about, but I'm just too tired right now.

I've got two hookahs, a 4-hose and my favorite 1-hose. Still debating on whether or not to bring them...

I think that was from a couple years ago.

I don't understand the hype over matcha Kit-Kats, after having a couple. And they're in abundance here where I live, so I guess the novelty ran out for everyone here too.

Registration / Re: Procrastinated on getting an ID
« on: May 20, 2012, 12:15:47 PM »
Do you still live with your parents? If so, I'm thinking that consent form thing can be used even though you're now an adult. If you have a school ID, I'd probably go to the DMV and get the ID slip thing from them and bring it with your picture ID. Shoot, bring a copy of your birth certificate as well.

Or, just email registration@fanime.com and tell them your story. That would likely be your best bet.

@royjovero: you do know that fanime's purpose is to BE all j-'d out cause its a weekend to release yourself from life and enjoy your hobby, so why not be all j-'d out? :p
I'm not going to go too far with this, but Fanime is a celebration of anime, cosplay, manga, and other Japanese pop culture. If this is the only time of the year where you indulge in sushi, green tea Kit-Kats, and ramune, then so be it.

I simply extended an open offer to invite people to join my group for dinner on Thursday. Yea, we're not eating Japanese food, but so what? People go to Fanime to be J'd-out and still end up eating at McDonald's, Jack in the Box, La Vic's, Iguana's, etc. I've also noticed a lot of forum-goers going to Quickly and Hydration, which happen to be Taiwanese establishments, despite the fact that they do serve Japanese-style nomz.

So before I go off too far into left field, I hope you guys have a good time together and hopefully y'all figure out where to eat. My invitation is still open, so PM me if you want my number and details about Pho Garden.

Hoestly I have no idea what a pho bowl is...
It's a Vietnamese noodle soup. Rice noodles, different cuts of beef, broth, some onions... Served with lemon or lime, bean sprouts, basil and jalapeƱos on the side. Like I said, it isn't Japanese, but just because you're at Fanime, doesn't mean you need to be all J'd-out the whole weekend.

Also, Pho Garden served other foods, like rice plates and egg rolls.

Well if anyone's interested in joining us, PM me for my number. I don't know what time we'll be getting on light rail since we're gonna wait in line to get our badges. And I don't know if we're gonna be meeting up at the Fairmont or just heading on over after we get our badges. So yea, PM me if you're interested and I'll give you my number to text.

The more, the merrier. Especially when huge bowls of pho, along with the inevitable regret and projectile vomit are involved. I, however, plan on winning the challenge and taking the bowl home!

I don't mean to hijack your guys' thread and all, but if you're looking for somewhere to eat on Thursday night, my group will be taking light rail into Mountain View to eat at Pho Garden. The main attraction will be 3 of us attempting to conquer the Pho Garden Challenge, a bowl of pho with 2 pounds of noodle and 2 pounds of meat. I know it isn't Japanese, but just because it's Fanime doesn't mean you have to be super-J-crazy the whole weekend.

Just thought I'd put it out there...

They use Starbuzz shisha there, so I wouldn't recommend them. Starbuzz flavor runs out quick. I've heard of people bringing their own hookahs for the weekend.

Are FightSticks going to be provided?

Nevermind. Found out.
