Registration / 2024 COVID Policy
Last post by JimTobal - November 26, 2023, 07:58:54 PM
The website is still showing the policy from 2023; does anyone know if the policy is still going to be the same for next year?

I don't want to risk registering if I may not be able to attend due to that policy.

A couple of months late, I know. But I can't help but be happy to play this game. I once had a weird rule for not buying new Nintendo consoles, but I'm glad I bought a Switch.

I'm currently trying to win in 1st place with the Fire Stingray, but this is quite a challenge. Only one victory for me so far with the Wild Goose...in a Mini Grand Prix XD

Big Event Showcase / Masquerade 2024 Registration O...
Last post by jibrille - November 14, 2023, 08:59:43 AM
Masquerade Registration Opens March 1 @ Noon Pacific Standard Time (PST)! We will post a link here closer to the date.

My name is Marisa and I am the Masquerade Head for FanimeCon. You may remember me and my team from FanimeCon years ago, or from many of the other conventions where we have run Masquerades over the years. We are so happy to be back at FanimeCon! :D

Please note we are looking for staff! General Staff, Judges, AV/Video Staff, & an assistant Stage Manager!
Apply here: https://apps.fanime.com/2024/staffapply/

Please start planning that skit and/or craftsmanship entry in advance for Masquerade 2024!

FanimeCon Masquerade is By Fans, For Fans: Cosplay for everyone! We welcome both new and experienced cosplayers!

Participate in one (or both!) of our two prize tracts:
- Performance: sing, dance, or do a skit. No craftsmanship required!
- Craftsmanship: show us your elite skills!

We accommodate new cosplayers or those who may have a fantastic skit idea, but can't make their own costume, with our performance-only division. Unless you check the box for "judge craftsmanship" we will not ask you if you purchased your costume or had your [Insert Here] make it for you. You will only be judged on your performance and how it relates to the character you are portraying.

We still have a craftsmanship prize tract for our cosplay artisans! You can do both! We have prizes for those who do both performance and craftsmanship too.

Our Best in Show prize, which is best OVERALL Performance & Craftsmanship, is $1000!

More information and our Rules for 2024 coming soon! If you have any questions you can e-mail me at masquerade@fanime.com

We look forward to seeing you in 2024!

Panels and Workshops / Re: Cosplay Backdrops
Last post by VincentTroyWilliams - October 21, 2023, 09:50:02 AM
A Fan Event sounds like what I am looking to do. I will keep checking the website for when regrestration of Fan Events becomes open.

Thank you.

This sounds more like it would be a "fan event" rather than a panel, as in the panel rooms you can't move anything or change the room setup.  (heck, the union convention center equipment guy didn't even like that I was connecting my own computer to the projector last year - which almost ALL panelists do - but he just had a stick up his rear and it was no big deal like in every year before)

Fan events are similar to panels in that you are allotted a time slot but they are in open rooms that allow you to have a custom setup configuration.  As with panels, registration opens far closer to the convention date, usually a couple months into the year.

Also I'm not staff, but I can tell you from my convention experience that you wouldn't be able to charge money any type of event like that within Fanime.

Famine finally posted up their official photos! I linked to them in the first post, but just a heads up, they aren't split up by timeframe this year, so you'll have to scroll a bit to get to us. But they came out amazing! Thanks to everyone who participated again, and I can't wait to see y'all next year!!

Live Programming and Events / Cosplay Backgrounds
Last post by VincentTroyWilliams - October 15, 2023, 04:39:14 PM
I would like to rent a room or space at Fanime in order to setup backdrops for cosplay photoshoots for anyone attending Fanime.

Is this possible? What form do I need to fill out? Or email address I need to contact?

I am planning on building a few PVC pipe racks to hang painted cloths on with a few cardboard attachments. I have different scenes in mind to display, either one at a time or all at once, depending on the size of the rented area.

The goal being to allow cosplayers to come and get their photo taken in different scenes, instead of in the tiny courtyard to the left of the convention entrance. I would not be providing any camera/video service. Just painted backdrops. The Cosplayers can take their own photos.

I would like to either rent one of rooms that panels are held in or space in the big tent.

If this is possible, what are the rules for charging money? If I can't charge money, am I allowed to ask for donations/tips?

My first thought would be to hold this as a "Panel": a limited time slot in one of the rooms. I did post in the Panel forum and was suggested to ask my question in this forum.

Thank you.

An event works, but does feel that classifing my request as an event, makes it bigger than I am intending.

My thought was a "Panel": a limited time slot in one of the rooms.

Do you have an info on requesting an event? I will also post in the event forum.
