The Bad
* egaming BYOC
I can explain the 3 reason why our department  won't allow having other attendees bringing their own console and set up their own games:

1. Legal liability issues.  Lots of contract forms to sign (both for eGaming and logistics/ConOps), inventory re-checkup, equipment confusion (especially with PS3/XBox360/Wii that has DLC content).

2. Conflicts with arcade, if said game(s) are shown in the Arcade, like Super Street Fighter IV Arcade, DDR, etc.  No setting up console nor use games that Arcade has which some attendees might do.

3. Illegal content.  People most likely will bring hacked console.  This also applies to Laptop being displayed such as if someone does set up Stepmania publicly connecting a usb converter with a ddr pads.  People even set up illegally download arcade hacked to pc that Arcade has which can violate what said in #2.

I believe he was referring to BYOC as Bring-Your-Own-Controller, I think.  If that's the case, then if there's people that made it too hard for people to plug in controllers, then let me know the names.  The way it is setup, all that needs to be done about this was notify a staffer and that's it.  Supposedly, we are more lenient towards this as most people who bring in controllers are only bringing in harmless stuff like Fightsticks.

If it's Bring-You-Own-Console, then yeah.  This sums up the most part and I'll be happy to elaborate it further as to why.  If people really want bringing their own console, then a lot would have to be done months prior to the event, NOT last minute for obvious reasons.

Advice to those playing Ninja: Careful not to block the bathrooms/enter/exit doors.  Thanks. :D

To anyone talking about the doors in gaming, We are very well aware of this.  This is already in the discussion list and a future response will be mentioned for 2013.  =)

Quote from: Amoirsp on May 28, 2012, 05:58:00 PM2) I was extremely disappointed with eGaming's inconsistent policy implementation leading to dumb things.

I'm just going to say eGaming was so cancerous I'm very much discouraged from returning to Fanime ever again, you can thank them for that.

I'm sorry to hear your disappoint, but what exactly happened?  Please mention in detail so we can figure out the best solution to this.

  • Gaming room was tons of fun! I'm glad that they had more tables out (at least I think they had more tables than last year). I really liked the computer area, please bring a few more computers! Also, I am very pleased with the staff in the game room because they were very nice and responsive (probably because a few were friends outside con). But they did help us fast when problems did occur. (which I will say in the con list)
Digital Storm was very happy with the outcome of PC Gaming.  I'll send them this note.  Feel free to contact them about your FanimeCon experience with them.  =)

confused...  why does this go to the Events page, when it was never an official event, and a mere suggestion as to what players want to do next year?

Posting here would alert the Social Gaming head for anything that isn't Video Games, Tabletop, nor Arcade.  Yes there is an actual department that handles such, including Cosplay Chess.   :D

Press should be able to compete.  =)

Also, I read in the schedule that eGaming is 24/7? Is that every tournament game?

eGaming is 24/7 for casual play.  Tournaments listed will last whenever the final rounds are up, often will end around 2-5 hours, depending on the tournament traffic.

Was just notified about the Street Fighter x Tekken update.

All games will be updated, EXCEPT for Street Fighter X Tekken, due to the game-breaking glitch.  The game will be using an older patch, but will be heavily spectated for infinite combos.

Will all SFxT's set-up have the new 5/16 patch?

EDITED: See message below, since I was informed about the Rolento glitch.

Frankly I'm very disappointed that nothing fighting related is being offered on the 360, especially with the bring your own controller rule.  I provide sticks for my tournament and allow people the option to choose from out sticks or provide their own.  I recommend that sticks be offered for competitors who want to enter but do not have a PS3 stick nor have a dual mod stick.

A quick note: We do have some PS3 TE /Sanwa-Modded SE Fightsticks ready for use in the tournaments.  We are very aware about this issue.  We also allow others to bring sticks; surpringly enough, some of these competitors will lend you sticks.   ;D

Is there a minimum age for participating? I want to participate in the tournament for Dance Central 2 and I'm 13.

There is no age limit to any of the tournaments.  So, you can enter the Dance Central 2 tournament.  =)

However, for the games that focus to the older audience like Catherine, parental/guardian guidance is suggested.

Will Pokemon Tournaments be organized better this year? The past few yours it's been really confusing about rules and location. Hopefully we won't be shooed away in the corner again on the floor =_=' *crosses fingers*

It should be.  Rulesets should be up soon.

Also, there will be a designated table(s) for handhelds this year.  This includes the 3DS Street Pass and the Pokemon tournaments.  =)

Oh nooo, I just noticed something..

If I only wanted to play SFxT (6PM Saturday), I would still have to register at 10AM on Friday?

Register on Saturday between 10AM - 5PM (or until slots are full). ^_^

Quote from: 100kV on May 03, 2012, 10:28:13 PMIs it because it's a non-commercial game?

A detailed description of this legal restriction would be really useful in knowing which games are allowed.

Games like MUGEN, Stepmania, Frets on Fire, and Osu! are all open-source software that was designed primarily for personal use only, depending on the licenses such as the Creative Commons.  The simulator games like those cannot be used in commerce (aka anything that involves money like people paying for badges) because it violates patents and copyrights of the content.  Stepmania -> DDR / Pump / ParaPara.  MUGEN -> Just about any fighter.  Frets on Fire -> Guitar Hero / Rock Band.  Osu! -> Elite Beat Agents.

In addition of the matters, such games allow players to upload custom songs.  Unless the songs are originally made or unless you hold a license to popularly requested songs, simply ripping songs from the internet (i.e. Anime songs or Top 40) is also illegal with the said above, except it hits on the recording industry.

Keep in mind that some of the attendees or even press are employees of big companies like Konami, Nintendo, EA, and Capcom.  Having attendees say "I came to pay for a $60 badge so I can play that awesome Stepmania and Osu! to play Caramelldansen and other songs provided by staff" is not the most pleasant thing to hear.  Let's not be hit with cease and desist orders or even legal actions.

If you guys want this kind of thing, it would be best to do this in a hotel room as hotel rooms are not affiliated by FanimeCon operations.

Quote from: 100kV on May 03, 2012, 10:28:13 PMAlso, I've been to Anime Express convention. While they had very strict legal restrictions there, they had an osu! booth. It was really fun when people gathered around and took turns playing.

Though conventions have to patrol copyright violations, the sole responsibility goes against the vendors who provide it.  If it were staff that represents the convention, then the convention itself is held legally responsible.

Certain conventions have also been hit with cease and desist orders and were threatened a shutdown due to such violations.  Con names not to be disclosed publicly.
