Title: Stage Zero at Fanime Con 2008
Post by: Mr. Wendell on January 05, 2008, 07:59:42 PM
Oh yes, indeed, it's fun time!

Mr. Wendell here, once again, and Stage Zero comes back for Fanime.

For those that don't know, we are the live show that brings you information and entertainment all on one stage in the center of the convention. :D

We continue to bring the con-goers more fun, whether it be in videos, music, games, and all around good times.

We would like to ask for suggestions and ideas for this year's show.  If it is possible, we will take it into consideration.

Hopefully we can make Stage Zero much better this year.

So scoop your Haagen-Dazs and twirl your curleh mustaches, because we're going to be all up in your mouf!

OMG Wendell! I haven't talked to you in like....a day!!!! It's so great to see you.

I have a brilliant idea for Stage Z, interview random con goers and hear how much they love the convention, where they're from, what they're gonna do, etc. Just a random though I had now, doesn't make it good.

Actually, Stage Zero is planning to do something like that.  We're giving con-goers the opportunity to put their shout-outs on our digicams, and we will show those videos during Stage Zero.  We will allow them 10 seconds to say "Hi" or give props or give shout-outs to anyone.  All we ask is no profanity or obscene gestures and no threats, and we will select the ones that will be put in our video rotation throughout the four days of the convention.

We're still planning the coordination, but we will try to record the shout-outs near Stage Zero.  We'll keep you posted as to how we'll do it.

bad idea: superheavystinkydeodorant.

There is plans for Stage Zero to make different informational videos, but we need to get in touch with our associates who have the equipment to make a proper information video.

However, this is definitely one of the videos we are planning to make. :D

i'd love to see games to win prizes - Quick Draw was one that was fun.

Quick Draw will definitely make a return, as well as the other staple games we're going to have, such as Musical Chairs, Jun Ken Pow, and Dance battles.  We are also creating and working on new games that will premiere for our show during the day.

People have asked about the game shows, and those will be making a return to Stage Zero.  You will see them during the evening after the day programming of Stage Zero, and you can check the forums for more details on that. :D

Also, we are in the planning to have late night programming for Stage Zero, after the regular day programming.  Details will be released as soon as we are able to confirm it.

We don't have a current age limit, but we are still trying to figure out if we need more staff for Stage Zero, whether it be during the day or for the late night.  We'll keep you posted in regards to staffing.

How convenient it is that you're already planning something that i've never heard you mention before, and you decide to announce it right after I give a very similar idea.

Yes...yes how very convenient eh?

Hey Mr. Wendell!!
Stage Zero was pretty awesome last year. I think the random dance-off competitions were the best (since I won one ;P)
Also, the massive come-up-on-stage"Night of Fire" Parapara dance was cool. If there's any opening, I was wondering if I could do a Hello!Project dance performance sometime. I don't know if this is the right thread for it but just to put it out there...

Great, now everybody's gonna shout out "You lost the game" for sure. xD

Cool idea though. x3

Hello anime/manga fan rookies and Elite Otaku of all sub-categories(watch or read Genshiken),

I have a suggestion for the dance battlles. I suggest a tounament that starts Fiday and ends Sunday night with a leader board next to or above Stage Zero. The tournament champions should be on a Hall of fame and win some type of imported or officially liscensed prize at Stage Zero  :-)

Usually, the dance battles aren't that big of an event to stage something like that.

It would be nice, but we'd have to make sure that all the contestants will be at the convention for all days.

We'll try to find something that will be suitable for the dance battles.

We just want to make sure that the games we have for Stage Zero will be more than the four we usually went with for last year's show.

Stage Zero will do its best to make our games entertaining.

Hello Mr. Wendell,

l have a cool new suggestion for Stage Zero. I suggest adding Eye of Judgement to Stage Zero. It would problably attract spectators quick with a big projector screen or large LCD TV.  8)

Hello hello~
I sent an email about this, not sure if it went to the right place D:
My cosplay dance group, Angel Hearts, is interested in doing a performance or two for Stage Zero.
Specifically, we have two shows in mind, both of which are very flexible in length.  :D  Our first show idea is a ParaPara performance, the second would be a series of songs from a particular game.

I hope there is time to fit us in somewhere~ :D  Thanks~~~

Hello everyone, thought it was about time for me to introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am the Video Director for Stage Zero (The one in charge of all the PV's, AMV's and other random crap that gets played). I decided that this year I would do something that I should have done the past few years and that is to ask everyone here what they want to see. So please, if you have any requests please let me know here. I don't want to clutter up the thread so just send me everything via PM, be it PV, AMV or other. I got a hold of a lot of Viral Videos from all over Asia that should go over pretty well.

[edit] And who would have thought, after I played several An Cafe PV's last year and saw how well they went over it appears as if they are showing up.. Hmm.

I liked the trivia game idea.
Those sound like fun, maybe different categories? It would be cool to see or attend in one about Japanese Mythology and stuff. Tanuki's Kappa's and Kitsunes among other things! XD

I'm not sure about the creation of a promotion for events at Fanime to be shown at Stage Zero, but we are working to have that possible.  Hopefully by the next meeting we will have more clarity for it.

We'll take into consideration the idea of showing Nice Boat, but that's something my staff will have to discuss, considering there are a few groups that need to be scheduled in, and the story behind Nice Boat is something we have to really talk about.

However, we can announce this:

Stage Zero will be the site for the Gothic Lolita Fashion Show, courtesy of Lolita Kisama!

Stay tuned for the date and time for this event!

hi, denwell
I just sent you a message regarding a very short stage zero performance of <nico nico douga>, which is a very popular fan-made music video originally from Japan. It is now spreading very fast on youtube just like last year's hare hare yukai dance. (Original Video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=fsdLNfT7-gc, Karaoke: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wcm9gbsgmXo)

Hope there is still a time slot open =)

i know that this was the first year for Stage Zero doing late-night programming.....but just airing speedruns of video games really doesn't count, IMO.

Hi-

My friends and I want to do a skit/cosplay-dance thing for Fanime 2009, so we were thinking about participating in the masquerade. However, I just looked at last year's rules and it says that most of the costume must be hand-made by one of us, which is impossible for us because we've attempted making costumes before and let's just say we're... not the best seamstresses OTL At any rate, we're not confident enough in our sewing skills to make a costume so we will be purchasing them online which immediately disqualifies us from participating.

Would it be possible for us to do it at Stage Zero instead? :/ Or does Stage Zero only take professional performers and AMVs? Thanks.

I think we'll see if we can do the speed runs again, and I agree that there should be more programming other than just those speed runs.  We are currently looking into more late night programming ideas, and hopefully we can build on the programming for Stage Zero @ Night.

-----------------------------------

As for performances on Stage Zero, we haven't made any scheduling plans, as we need to considering the times for our major events first, such as the Charity Auction, Guests of Honor appearances, et al.  I had made plans before to try to see if some dance performances could be done on Stage Zero, but we cannot make any confirmations at this time.  However, I will try to keep everyone posted to see what we can add to Stage Zero's programming for next year.

-----------------------------------

What I do know is that Stage Zero is continuing to strive to be better than last Fanime, and we are trying to see what we can expand on.

If you have any ideas, suggestions, or ideas that you'd like to see on Stage Zero for Fanime Con 2009, do let us know, and we'll see if we can make it happen.

Okay. So here's the deal on Stage Zero for '09. We're looking to expand the operation to a full 24/7 feature for the upcoming year. This means more coordination for content and showcases; this also means that we'll need more staff on all points (Stage personas, assistant producers, technicians, etc). The first official Fanime Staff meeting has occurred and our budget (how much money we get to start with) has been signed off. Now that we know where we stand, the discussions on what we're going to try is officially open.

That said, I will open this up by saying that the theme for this year's Fanime / Stage Zero is music -- not just J-Rock or J-Pop but all music. A lot of what I hope to have us try will be surrounding this theme and that will include the return of things like Musical Chairs, Quick Draw, and a few of the other game / contest-type events we've had in the past. We'll also be looking to try some new stuff as well and suggestions should be e-mailed to [email protected] with "Stage Zero" in the subject line. This will ensure that I look at it and respond in a reasonable amount of time.

It's my hope that this upcoming year will be even better than last (yeah, no pressure.... really...  :P ) and with more time to fill, it's going to be a challenge... :)

for the stage zero operators.

i have experience with live feed video editing and if you want to do shoutouts and other small video shoots i can help with the video shooting as well as hooking up all the wires and stuff like that. i plan to come in as press this year with my equipment. i duno if it might keep me busy from other stuff since i have to video shoot for my own story stuff but after i get that out of the way, im more than willing to help out.

also if i do help do i have to attend staff meetings cause i live far from san jose and it would be hard for me to get there all the time. maybe like four times the most i can stop by lol

Okay, after this general meeting, I'll have to make a new topic for Stage Zero for Fanime Con 2009...

But for those that are still interested in helping out at Stage Zero, please try to come to the general Fanime staff meeting on February 8th, so we can see and talk to the people to help our show this year.  ;D
