Title: Modern anime survival
Post by: otakuya on February 11, 2014, 09:20:22 PM
Call me old school, but I love my classic anime.

However, I want to know what anime is "in" nowadays and not get too lost in modern anime trends; like characters that are being cosplayed, plushies and posters in the dealers room and artist's alley, etc. What's a good starting point and what's going to be "in"? I have a sense that Crunchyroll shows 'old' stuff and not the 'trend'.

I really have no idea what you mean by any of that. Never knew anime was a "trend".
Then again kids animes like one piece and Pokemon are really just a 25 minute commercial for toys and games.

I don't know what you mean by crunchyroll either. They do simalcast a few shows. But they tend to gear towards teen to young adult section.

^ It's the sense of "what is this anime", "never heard of it", and "oohh, you've never seen '...'?". And that vibe of being caught out of the anime loop for a long time.
