Hi! So i was wondering- for staff who are still on shift at 7pm Friday, is it possible to get the raffle ticket at 8pm or eariier in the day?

Hello,

If you are working during the Staff Speed Dating time 8-10PM, you wouldn't be able to participate in the event. Please make sure it is approved and OK by your department head to participate in this event. We don't condone ditching your shift for this event, as we are all committed to volunteering for our respective departments.

If you are working at 7PM but will be available by 7:45PM the very latest, then you can just stop by and pick up a raffle any time 7 - 7:45PM. Our process this year is not dependent on first-come, first-serve as it is randomized lottery. The very last people who draw the numbers may be able to get in as well.

Hope this helps!

No emails, we are planning to conduct the lottery during Con. Details are TBD but we will plan for the fairest, most efficient process possible!

As to the rumors, we filled each Speed Dating session with the max. number of males AND females :) So no shortage there! I would take rumors and naysays with a grain of salt. If you have any concerns, please email me and I can address them (donnaATfanime.com).

Hopefully with this lottery system, you can participate this year! We apologize for the previous years' inconveniences, there were many variables that factored into how our department performed. I could list all the reasons to illicit sympathy but that won't solve our problems :)

First and foremost, WE NEED STAFF!! If anyone is interested in helping us out, please email speeddatingATfanime.com or DonnaATfanime.com. Thanks!

So how is the lotto thing going to work? Do we have to put out names in a box during the con or is there an email we send beforehand or are we going to have to line up to put out names in a box then wait hours till you read off the names?

Seems like last year was pleagued by major shortage of females. (Insert rumor here, aka staffers where asking friends to "help out")

But oh wells. Never could get in the last 4 years, it's not worth it for me next year. Just asking questions for other people that want to try their luck next year.

Location: Fairmont Hotel, Sacramento, Piedmont, and Hillsborough Rooms

Speed Dating 101 Workshops: Saturday 10:30AM - 11:30AM & Sunday 10:30AM - 11:30AM

Speed Dating Sessions: Saturday 12PM - 2PM, *2PM - 4PM, 4PM - 6PM & Sunday 12PM - 2PM, *2PM - 4PM, 4PM - 6PM
*LGBT Sessions offered

Pre-Registration: Not required, but all participants need to have a legitimate FanimeCon badge (Member or Staff)

This 2015 year, we will be hosting Speed Dating workshops, sessions, and more. All FanimeCon attendees (18+) are welcomed to the Speed Dating 101 Workshops. For the first time for the Speed Dating Sessions, the selection and registration process will be a RANDOM LOTTERY-BASED process! Selection for participation is NOT guaranteed, but there is no more hassle of waiting in line.

The Random Lottery-Based Selection/Registration Process for the Speed Dating Sessions is simple:
(1)   Stop by Speed Dating rooms in Fairmont Hotel from 10AM – 3PM on Saturday and Sunday and fill out a registration slip for your desired event session. 1 entry per person per session. Attendees may submit up to max 3 entries per day.

(2)   After you are done signing up, you are free to leave and have fun at con! We require a minimal amount of information from you and only staff personnel are handling the registration process.

(3)   Come back ½ hour prior to your desired session and see if you are randomly selected for that Speed Dating session or else you will forfeit your spot if you were called. Ex: If you registered for the Saturday 12PM session, you must arrive at the rooms at 11:30AM when staffers start to randomly select and process attendees' registration. Selection for event participation is NOT guaranteed!

We provide heterosexual and queer friendly, gender-neutral (LGBT) speed dating sessions. LGBT sessions, include gay/queer males, lesbian/queer females, and bisexual/pansexual folks, are offered Saturday and Sunday at 2PM. Picture IDs will be checked at the door to verify age. Would you like Feedback in this thread exclusively or to email you guys? I am not sure yet if we're doing a general feedback form for fans like they did last year.

Ah! I kinda want to go to the speed dating, but... I'm too shy. >w<

Can you still make it into the speed dating without going to the workshop before hand? Or are you just going to explain at the beginning of each round the rules/how it works?

Also, what if you come late to the speed dating? Or should you be exactly on time/early to wait in line if you're a girl, because from what I'm hearing there are more guys than girls at these things so girls have an easier time getting in.

Anyone may participate in Speed Dating without going to the workshop beforehand. Rules will be explained prior to each round.

We do not accept participants if they do not come at least 10 minutes prior to the event for males or females. We had a full round of females every time last year and I can only imagine the event will be more popular this year so please plan accordingly.

Is it safe enough to assume that if we can get into the 101 Workshop we could also make it into the Noon Session following it?  I had poor luck the last two years and found you guys full the last few times I tried to attent.

Workshop is 10AM - 11AM. If you stay for the entire duration, then you can be in line at 11AM for the 12PM Session. We made it that way so people can have a chance to wait for the 12PM if they wanted.

Entry for participation depends on the first-come, first-serve waiting basis. We are a very popular event and it is dependent on the number of guys/girls who want to participate. This year we are running 2 events per round so we are doubling the number of participants.

Question. What's the general ratio of guys and girls, and age differential? I never attended SD before. Thanks

Ratio of guys and girls in the session event itself is even 1:1. Age bracket can go anywhere from 18+, although we usually get 18-30YO as I've seen in the past. Hope this helps!

Can you give a brief overview on how it works? Just in case I can't make it to the workshop.

Hi RandR,

We have a full agenda for our workshop so it'd be really long to post on here. Plus that sucks all the fun and surprise out of you attending our workshop! Stop by, it'll be great!

Thank you for the suggestion and thought you've put into this topic.

However anything involving minors would include parental approval and strict guidelines to enforce any legal issues. There are too many factors to deal with if we had a "speed dating" event for minors (under 18YO) especially if grave situations such as age of consent problems, stalking, inappropriateness, accusations, etc. were to happen.

FanimeCon is one big friendly hang-out! Suggestions to attend multiple events and meet new people would be fun as well. Until then, hang tight till you're 18!

Pre-registration for event is NOT required. It is based on first-come, first-served in the line.

To increase your chances of getting in, we recommend coming 10 minutes prior to the desired event but from previous experiences, participants have waited anytime from 1/2 hour to 2 hours.

More sessions wow, it's about time. Thanks, maybe this year I could actually get in.

I noticed you said pre-reg? Are you going to the would email lottery like in 2012? Or is it going to be first come first served?
