Dumb question, does anyone know if this includes the hot tub as well? Like, is it the whole pool deck or just the pool itself? I'd call the hotel and ask but they don't have a toll-free number. :P

I was sort of relying on the hot tub being open to help with the edema and stiffness in my legs due to my miscellaneous obnoxious health problems...

Holiday weekends are usually huge sources of revenue for hotels. I'd be pretty shocked if they actually went ahead and scheduled maintenance for Memorial Day weekend without taking this into account. I doubt it's a coincidence.

Thanks for clearing that up :) I was wondering how I'd missed it previously.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Disabilities?

I've got fibromyalgia and disautonomic dysfunction due to a malformation in my brain, which basically makes me prone to passing out and drops or spikes in my blood pressure (as well as a bunch of other things but they're not really an issue when it comes to standing in lines or using the stairs).

Last Fanime I went to (2008), I had a cane I used when I wasn't feeling well (didn't have it with me at all times), and the con staff was very nice and helpful to me, as was the Hilton staff. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for all the people in the elevator. Most of them were very accommodating and would make room for me and even the friend I travel with, but a couple of times I got told to "wait for the next one", and in one memorable case, "What the hell, I remember you and you didn't have that cane yesterday." I felt like he was implying I'd started carrying it just so people would make room for me or something.

However, I have to say I had no idea there was a disabled line - is this a new development or did I just miss it last time I was there? There wasn't an enormous lineup, but I was still stuck waiting in line for about half an hour.

Mod edit: strike out disabled line info

Yeah, it's not the sort of place I'd recommend grabbing a quick lunch every day at, but even for people on a tight budget it would be a good place to have one nicer dinner.

I ate at Gordon (typed Gorgon there wtf) Biersch's last time I was down there and it was very tasty. I don't remember it being too expensive either, it was under $100 for three of us, two of whom are.. quite fond trying new beer, to say the least XD I'm pretty sure the booze was responsible for the bulk of our bill.

Gaming / Re: Favorite Video Game OST?

Chrono Cross, for me, has some of the most beautiful and timeless music ever in a video game.

Aside from Groupon, there's a coupon place called TownHog that's had some good deals lately, but for slightly fancier stuff generally. I got two 50$ coupons for 25$ each for Scott's Seafood. I have a sick weakness for fresh raw oysters on the half shell, so I am gonna indulge XD

They also had a deal a while back for movie tickets, I'm hoping they have another one soon.

Another useful note - if you have any special needs or requests, it is always best to contact the hotel approximately a week ahead of time to make sure whatever you request is ready when you arrive. Good hotel staff are usually more than happy to go above and beyond for special requests, within reason. I'm pretty sure they'll be suspicious if you tell them you need a llama and a ball pit in your room for medical reasons.

I can't handle compact fluorescent bulbs, they give me debilitating cluster and migraine headaches. I've already discussed this with the Hilton and they suggested and offered to find me a desk lamp somewhere (I assume pre-renovation storage) that can handle standard incandescent bulbs since all their new light fixtures *only* handle CFLs. They just asked that I call about a week before I check in to remind someone.

I kind of want to see some Kuragehime cosplay, but most of the outfits are just normal clothes so I'm not sure how well that would work. The wigs would be insane and awesome in most cases though.

Canada's even more confusing - all our airport codes start with Y. I'm in Montreal, and ours is YUL. Go figure!

And yeah, it's a bit of a nuisance. I take about ten to twelve pills a day, and also need a blood pressure monitor, ankle braces, the aforementioned cane, an epinephrine auto-injector, and pre-measured blood thinner syringes in case of emergencies. I also have to carry a ridiculously large variety of clothing because my body temperature doesn't self-regulate very well, so I am always too hot or too cold. On top of everything else I'm also just a huge clumsy oaf so toss in gauzes, stretch bandages, and a bottle of peroxide just in case. XD

And you still travel to cons?!  You are rock-solid awesome!

Thanks, but it's really not that bad. Mostly just chalked up to some minor autonomic dysfunction due to a malformation in the back of my brain. Eventually I'll have surgery to correct it and 90% of my problems will go away, but for now as long as I'm careful about my medications and stuff I'm fine. Some of the stuff I bring with me (the braces and the injections) I *probably* won't need, but they're the sort of thing that I'd be pretty badly fucked if I needed and didn't have with me. I can't just waltz into a Walgreen's and ask for a syringe and a dose of blood thinner.

Dealers Room / Re: Madoka Magica soundtrack
April 24, 2011, 08:47:29 AM
Blah, I thought that might be the case. :( Thanks.

I was just hoping they'd have them in-hand before the official release date, I work in a toy store and for big releases we often get the crates beforehand, we're just not allowed to open them.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Raise Money for Japan

I suggested a charity auction on the Fanime facebook page a while back, so I would totally be in favour of that.

There's also simpler things like just having collection boxes for the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders or something in easily accessible locations (next to Stage Zero, exit to the dealer room so people can unload their loose change, etc)

Check-in isn't until 4pm. Even if your friend arrives earlier than anticipated, you probably won't be able to check in, so you have nothing to worry about.

Denver's official call letters are DEN but locals all refer to it as DIA, Denver International Airport. No idea why, it confused me at first too.

QuoteDenver International Airport (IATA: DEN, ICAO: KDEN, FAA LID: DEN), often referred to as DIA, is an airport in Denver, Colorado. By land size, at 53 square miles (140 km2), it is the largest international airport in the United States

As for the "lots of luggage" I have a cane, a large suitcase, a duffel with medical supplies, and my carryon which is a large backpack. Because of a laundry list of annoying health problems, I do not have the luxury of packing light, unfortunately.

XD

Well, technically you're seeing a Canadian who will be dragging a Coloradoan with her. But he'll be there eventually!

Dealers Room / Madoka Magica soundtrack
April 23, 2011, 10:55:07 AM
It's apparently going to be released on May 25th, is there any chance in hell any dealers or distributors might actually have a copy in the dealer room?

Considering how many people fly through DIA on a daily basis... Also he's flying in on the Wednesday, so unless you're also planning to get there very early, I doubt it.
