Question:
Will you be using the FREE internet cafe?
Option 1: Yes
votes: 30
Option 2: No, I would not!
votes: 3
Starting on Thursday night and going to until Monday night, on the Almaden Concourse, which above Starbucks, 2nd floor on the Hilton side of the convention center will have a free internet cafe.
Tables and chairs will be set up for those wanting to use the service.
A poster board will be on an easel telling you have to make the connection.
It's free, but there are rules to be followed.
Violating the rules will get you toss off the connection and possibly ejected from the convention center.
What is a violation?
We are still discussing all the options, but let's say, downloading Porn, priated movies and attempting to create your own server will get you booted off the server and tossed out of the convention and off the proptery too.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Would people with DS's be able to connect to the Nintendo wifi?

I doubt it, but I'll inquiry with the provider...

There goes local gaming by wi-fi.
Oh, and since I couldn't post in that other announcement thread, free internet is insanely awesome. Props to the Fanime team for organizing this!
Wow... that's pretty awesome!
And I thought I'd have to wait until I got home to post pictures on the internet!
Sweet! XD

T-Moblie connnection only connects to T-moblie spots...
If you have a wi-fi card, that's different...

*a word of caution*
I assume this will be an unsecured internet connection?
Woe to anyone who uses this to send or recieve any sensitive information.

If the ISP's smart, they'll force people to use a WEP key.
This is pretty darn cool, but allow me to ask for a bit of clarification when the PTB have the time... You're saying second floor, above Starbucks, Hilton side. Does that mean that it's going to be out directly above Starbucks and not inside the Hilton area itself?

That is correct. Signal might, being a slim, no and fat chance of it coming in the alcove area on the second floor of the Hilton, but I wouldn't want to bet my life on it.

Groovy. When I first heard the idea being brought up, it sounded at the time (to me) like it was going to be held in the Hilton second floor. To which my response was a grumbly "hordes of people near elevators, GRR!" So, this works great. :D

You just need zonealarm or some other such firewall that protects your computer from the inside. Zonealarm has a free version and as long as you stay on the updates seems to be fairly good. Doesn't do much good if you and everybody else is sharing the same wepkey.
whoa! and we'll see people with laptops and gathering around watching YouTube clips! 8)

You should be able to use wi-fi with the t-mobile service.

WiFi is the wireless way to handle networking. It is also known as 802.11 networking and wireless networking. The big advantage of WiFi is its simplicity. You can connect computers anywhere in your home or office without the need for wires. The computers connect to the network using radio signals, and computers can be up to 100 feet or so apart.

This has to be probably a big sucess story. I noticed ALOT of people using this and somehow the signal extended into Exhibit Hall 3, where a number of DS players were using the connection to play with others. Even I used this connection to check in with the real world here and there at Con.
I hope this returns next year ^^;;
Wonderful idea! :D The Internet Cafe allowed me to stay connected to the fundraisering/planning committee I'm on and also scheduling several last minute rehearsals for this week. Kudo to Fanime for having this available to us! Thanks to Fanime my weekend was stress free.

Agreed it also saved Video Programming for last minute downloads etc. I was suprised I was able to get it from the 3rd floor of the Hilton. If the internet connection with the hilton was discounted or part of the room package I would have used that instead of the free wifi.
