Fanime draws over 20,000 attendees, most of whom are paying well over $50.00 to attend. Add in the money paid by dealers for their space, artists in the artists alley and the flea marketeers and Fanime has to be drawing well in excess of a million dollars a year.

So, where is it going? It certainly isn't buying us professional grade website development and support. Hasn't been showing up at the registration side of things, either. Guests? NOPE. Where does the money go?

Sure, the facilities aren't free. Still, it seems to me that Fanime would benefit greatly from letting a professional event management team run the show. Either that or a comprehensive audit. Maybe both.

I have always wondered this myself. If Fanime draws in 20,000 attendees, and if those attendees pay $50 per ticket, that means that the convention is pulling in 1 million dollars each and every year. In addition to that they also receive money from Dealer's Hall dealers, Artist Alley vendors, etc.

I understand that they pay facility fees, staffing fees (even though a large majority of their staff are volunteer based), guest fees, etc. But that is only a small amount compared to the amount of money the convention is pulling in each and every year.

I've always wondered where exactly the rest of that money goes, or to whom? If the con pulls in that much each year surely they can afford simple web design for their website. There are even attendees who would be more than happy to volunteer to web design for the con, it would look great on job applications.

There simply is no excuse for the website to be up so late. Is anyone else curious where all Fanime's monetary earnings are going???  ???

I feel that the site layout this year is definitely the worst that it has ever been. It's far too minimal and makes site navigation somewhat frustrating. I really enjoyed old site layouts where there were links to information about previous cons, detailed information on what Fanime has to offer, in addition to easy to navigate links.

I feel as though Fanime would be better off reverting to its old webpage layout for the time being, at least until they fully complete the new layout to their satisfaction.

Oh, awesome! Thanks Otakuya.

Hey, my fan name is sjamison1427. Real name is Scott, I'm a 26-year-old guy originally born in Livermore, California and now currently living in Holden, Massachusetts. When my parents divorced my father moved back East to MA where he was originally from, I made the decision to come with him and attend college and progress in my life. I graduated from University of Massachusetts with a degree in Finance and Accounting. Still taking classes off/on to get a degree in Business Management. I currently work as an Investment Banker through Wells Fargo bank.

I have been a Fanime attendee for the last 8 years. I attend the con as part of a 2-3 week vacation that I take each year in order to visit with my mother and sister Emily. In the past I've done a lot of Bleach cosplay, Hideki from Chobits, and Guts from Berserk. My cosplays this year are listed in my signature, you will probably see me roaming around the con with my sister who is attending as Asuna from Sword Art Online.

When I'm not working or completing coursework I am at home watching this or that or taking my dog out for jogs. He's pretty high energy so I don't get much of a choice. He's a 5 year old lab/border collie mix named Titan. Let's see, what else? I drive a black 2006 VW Golf, am a huge fan of RPG-type video games, love alternative and trance music, and I love being outdoors fishing, hiking, biking, provided the weather is accommodating.

For more just ask! Here is a link to a photo of myself, too much hassle to type out a description.

I am curious in regards to which members of Fanime staff will be conducting the judging and what exactly they will be judging for. I am both happy with the decision for judging considering it hopefully increase the amount of quality items displayed in Artist Alley, but also a little concerned in regards to the judging process being so new as well as whether or not the submissions will be judged by fellow-artists or by general staff.

The struggle is real when you get rejected with "I think of you like a brother".

I also offer monetary donation in regards to the badge. I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting a custom-made Kingdom badge for free. Let me know how best to pay you and I'll make good on my end.

In regards to picking up the Kingdom badges, what time and day do you gentlemen think would be best? I toss my vote in for any time Friday!

^ Neither. Though if forced to choose I'd pick the NSA. They can listen to my phone calls all they want, I guarantee they will be bored out of their minds before the end of my normal work week.
< Finished work, and is jellin like a felon?

The struggle is real when your toaster is so old it automatically assumes you want all of your breads extra crispy.

We don't want to end up in debt to other nations like some OTHER countries we know...
This is very true. Strong Kingdoms are financially independent Kingdoms. The nations riddled by debt are nations open for conquering I say.

Also addressing the topic of "Kingdom Badges", I am fully on board with this idea. It would be a great way to spot each other at the meetup on Friday night.

Your best bet for that kinda stuff might be the Swap Meet and a WTS thread.
I've found quite a few things through Swap Meet, that is very true. Is Swap Meet this year still scheduled on Thursday and Friday like it was prior years?

I dont know if you noticed this but the system for preventing scalpers is still being used today.. The usage of having to charge on the same card is prohibited. if you have like multiple cards well thats another flaw system..
I am aware of this, yes.

Addressing Gundam, I concur with your suggestion. I think weeding through billing addresses is a great idea.

Friday evening also works for me seeing as my flight leaves Thursday and arrives Friday morning.

Quite correct limDsage, all bills must be paid in a timely manner to avoid falling into debt. Debt is a nasty business, and I extend my hand to any member of the Royal Kingdom seeking financial advice in such matters.

Addressing Nina Star 9. I concur that con attendance has skyrocketed exponentially in the past few years. With the limited number of rooms combined with the large quantity of attendees I can definitely see the issues presented.

Nevertheless even the smallest number of scalpers can cause inconvenience. I want to compliment the Fanime staff in taking an active role in this convention. Without their time and effort the issue of scalpers would be much larger than it is currently.

In addition I want to reference again what everyone has been stating. If you're approached by a scalper send the information to forum moderators and absolutely do not give them your business.

A video game dealer would be great since we haven't seen those in years.
I second this. In fact, I'd really like to see a vendor selling classic and old-school video game consoles and systems, as well as video game soundtracks.

I've seen the rare anime soundtrack vendor, which I've rather enjoyed, but thought that the Dealer's Hall could use the odd video game booth with various odds and ends.

Ezio vs zorro... Who would win?
Definitely Ezio, far more skills than mere swordsmanship.

My dog Titan doesn't understand that his current attempts at my food are futile.
