I don't have Facebook (I just don't... it's just one of those things I'm not interested in) and I think Twitter is beyond stupid.

I posted it to the forums on the 31st, there was an official post on the 2nd and a notice went up on the website on November 3rd.

I don't start checking the site until December... becuase I figure that's when the news starts rolling in...

That's when it started rolling in the last 2-3 years.  Thing is people got impatient, especially when rooms were coming up in January when they were used to rooms coming up in November, and I guess staff picked up the pace in response to the feedback.

It isn't going to be as economical, but have you thought about booking a room at one of the hotels without the Fanime rate?  Not all the rooms are blocked off for the con.  For the last 2-3 years I have seen people staying at the Hilton and Fairmont for other occasions who didn't know what madness was surrounding them lol.  Point is not every room is taken for the con, so that might be something to consider.  Otherwise you'll have to book a room for a night through CMR, put yourself on the waitlist for the weekend, and just hope it works.  Don't know what the chances of that working are though, considering the waitlist started getting names 5 hours after registration went up.  Unfortunately right now those look like the only options available unless I'm missing something.

Last year all of the hotels within walking distance was booked through expect for the larger type of room at the Marriott that was super expensive. I eventually got lucky got a room at the Hyatt...

I'll go double check but 6 months in advanced is terrible...

They did post it on Twitter, Facebook and the forums what the date would be. I also got an email, I'm guessing other's did too.
I was on Vacation that day and ended up having to push back our departure time so that I could ensure I was near WiFi. 3 hours of battling with error pages and website crashes. 6 devices, 3 phones with over 400 attempts at calling the reservation line. We eventually got a room.

I hope that you find a method to get a room. The waiting list, I hear, is often pretty successful as people give up their rooms nearer the time when other things come up.

I don't want to buy a pass if I can't get a hotel... plus I can only stay in one within walking distance. I'm disabled, but I'm in the range where I'm not disabled enough for a wheel chair but not well enough I can walk unassisted. Hell there's a good chance you saw me durring the con this year (I was the woman with the pink forearm crutches).

I think it was because they got flak for putting it up so late last year.

It seems like overcompensating to me... at least one of my friends don't mind as she's attending a different con in Seattle as part of a Cyborg 009 Cosplay gathering (she was the Jet cosplayer during the con)...

I just have to figure out what to do since this is the last con I have access to for me it's all or nothing... (it really sucks being a physically disabled person with no car).

I'm the one in charge of my group to book the hotels every year, my friend was curious about when it was happening this year so I decided to check... I was shocked to discover that everything happened weeks ago! Man... what changed that it happened so early this year... or next year...

This is the first time on the waitlist for me... all other years I booked, I manged to get good hotel rooms, how was I supposed to know there was a mix up if they didn't post the time...

I, like the OP, was waiting as long as possible since I really needed the second room I was waitlisted for.

I'm not the OP... I just ended up getting a lot of attention...

Yeah about that...... Why would you wait till the last min? This shizo should been top priority in the morning.  Time management homie.

When I cancel, I lose my spot on the wait list... I might have a back up room, but it's three times more expenive than getting a room through fanime...

Lol not sure if you guys where being sarcastic or not.

If you where the person that booked the room then you should have received a duplicate email back in the week of 4/14/14. It clearly said the deadline was on 4/25/14 with out penalty. As it also said when you first booked the room back in February.   If you canceled today via online or phone you should had received a cancelation email.

If you cancel after the 25th you could get the one day penalty charge.
It's not that hard to understand it. But FYI it's always better to call. Online can be a bit of a mess.

There is a problem though... you always have to factor in time zones, all the e-mails and the websites say is "The 25th" but not the time, It doens't say by 11:59 PM EST or if you have to do by 6 PM PST (the time the calling center closes)... no all it says is the 25th...

Even the confermation I got from the Marriot says the exact time of the deadline for me to cancel (6:00 PM)...

What they did is sloppy and maybe even illegal...

Well I canceled my room (I got a backup room at the Marriot just incase the wait list didn't go through, but it's so much more expensive)... The e-mail I got claims I canceled on today's date... I hope so, because if it did't my dad's going to complain about it, not the whole thing about the date but not specifying the time. He might also get the state involved because not specifying the time of the deadline is illegal.

Hotel and Facilities / What should I do?
March 20, 2014, 10:26:19 AM
In my boredom today I decided to see if the Marriot had any rooms through it's site. As luck would have it... it did have room. However it much more expensive than if I had waited. While I did book it, I was wondering if I should cancel the room I booked through housing (which at the Doubletree) or wait to see if my spot in the wait list get me a close hotel...

I should also point out that my friend is paying, I was just in charage of booking...

actualy i think the one thing fanime needs is to support disabilities or those who need assistance.

I already felt sad for a few users who couldn't register for the hotel and have to gamble their own time to obtain a hotel slot!

I think artist alley has done this and that is good so now housing needs to have this as well!

I don't know if that's a good idea.

I'm physically disabled (a combination of MD, bad knee and a bad ankle) and I got stuck with the Doubletree (but I'm the waiting list for the connecting hotels and the Fairmont).

How can they prove that the person is disabled over the internet? People can always lie...

I doubt someone would want to switch with me but... I have a double/double room for three people at the Double Tree and I would just like any hotel within walking distance.

I should point out I'm disabled and it's very difficult for me to walk (I use clutches). But I understand if no one wants to trade, I do have the worst hotel...

Really, the only solution seems to be if the hotels expanded.  Of course that would make it even worse for the year while their are remodeling.

I think if they were able to add Hotel De Anza it would also help big time...

Did he call Fanime Housing...or did he call the hotel? 'Cause the hotel's gonna know nothing.

You need to call this number (800) 924-4232 or email FaniHousing@cmrus.com to get on the waiting list.

He called fanime housing... form what I heard they only offered to book one of the far away hotels and nothing more...
