I'm not overly aware of what's involved in putting on this panel, but if someone needs some assistance I'll help out if I can.  Just send me a message since I have no idea what's involved.

Your real name isn't listed anywhere in the booklet or in any kind of published material, unless you include your name in the description.

I've hosted panels for the last three years and they don't include my name. It's mostly for the panel staff (Hi Rina) so they know who to contact. They're good people. After all, they've let me host panels for the last three years despite clearly being INSANE.

I think the issue is three-fold:

1. Hotel Reservations came online later than normal
2. Many people reserve rooms without having roommates and THEN start looking for someone else to share the room
3. FanimeCon is huge

Well, I haven't been a part of a club for a long time, but I did start the Anime club up at Napa Valley College back in 2003. I could lend a hand and offer some advice on starting a club if you like.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: A fanime Iphone/Android app?
December 18, 2010, 10:05:14 PM
I'm wondering if the iPhone app will use push notifications to allow you to get updates.

I also wonder if it'll have a built in scheduling calendar.

I wonder...

OH! I forgot to ask...

I remember that when FanimeCon first came to the SJ Convention Center, you used to be able to reserve a suite as one of the options for room type. The last few years I haven't seen that. Did FanimeCon stop getting lower rates for the suites, or did they all end up getting taken by the FanimeCon staff and guests of honor?

Can I request that marketing not update the twitter feed after 10pm? Some of us still have it setup for texting alerts and FanimeCon tweets have woken me up more than once.

Dahaha

Cthulhu for President will be at SNAFUCon.

Also, I've been lazy about the video. I'll work on it I swear... as soon as I finish SC2.

Woah, hadn't noticed the responses to this thread. Let me answer as best I can:

2011: Hopefully, FanimeCon willing, the HMVs will be back.
Rules: I've learned my lesson and I'm unwilling to discuss the rules in a public forum. I'll let you know once I know anything.

2010: We only had one entry :( - That being said, there were still prizes and the sole entry got a $50 gift card to iTunes and a Cthulhu plush toy. 80% of success is just showing up. I also need to work on advertising the contest better.

2010 Playlist: Unfortunately, I suffered a tragic loss of data on my laptop and I'm still trying to find my backups of the playlist. Once I find the information I'll post it here.

As far as I know, the panel is Joyce's brainchild. It would be odd if anyone else decided to head it.

That said, if anyone else would, it would probably be appropriate if it were one of the veteran comics of the panel.

Ah, I'm not overly familiar with the setup of the panel.

Also, thanks for your kind words about the hmvs :D

So... is this happening again for 2011? This was my first year and I didn't even know it was going on so I missed it at the con itself, and I'm interested in taking part next year.
It depends if Joyce decides to host it again in 2011, but I'm assuming the panel will happen again.
And we always welcome new performers. I always look forward to new approaches to comedy revolving around us fanboys and fangirls.

If you ever find you need another host, Cthulhu for President's Campaign manager is always willing to help.

Any video of this like you guys recorded last year?
The Comedy club panel(where I perform) was scheduled at the same time, and I was really pissed about it. I'm sure chthulu will devour me first.

My friends managed to get most of the panel (I believe) recorded, so hopefully soon I'll get off my duff and get it online. I'll post here once it's up.

How'd your panel go?

It's interesting, this group started coming to FanimeCon the same year they first showed up at CSU Chico. For those of you who don't know, CSU Chico used to be a major party school back in the 80's but now is pretty boring. It's also out in the middle of nowhere so you have to intentionally GO there in order to find it.

Anyways, one day while I was eating lunch, waiting to go to class to, I saw these protesters standing in the Free Speech area. I sat down by a tree nearby the one police officer who was keeping an eye on the situation from a afar and chatted with him. Periodically students would come up to him and ask (or demand) if he was going to remove them. I just kept laughing as the officer very calmly explained that they are exercising their right of free speech and that, unless they were actually threatening people, they were free to speak their minds. Telling someone that they're going to hell isn't a threat. Telling someone they will burn in a lake of fire for eternity if they don't stop sinning and embrace Jesus Christ in their hearts isn't a threat.

Long and short of it: These people are professionals. If you look closely, they have people off on the sides who aren't as flashy and aren't yelling things watching everything with cameras and video recorders. They make most of their money from lawsuits against people who assault them or cities that try to stop them. Even cities that have laws on the books are their target as many of those laws aren't technically legal and will result in a lawsuit. This is their job and they are good at it.

Like Tony said: If you engage with them, you're letting them win. You're not going to change their mind and you're not going to prove your point. The only way to win is to not play. Indeed, NOT playing is victory. Starving them of money that they earn from these things is the only way to stop them, but that is a long term strategy.

Personally, I find their statements meaningless because I don't subscribe to their belief structure. Indeed, most people DON'T have their belief structure as they don't represent anything even remotely related to Christianity at large, so I fail to see why this upsets so many people. They don't represent your faith, so why even acknowledge them? Why let their words affect you in any way, shape or form?

Buttons look the same. I'm not exactly an artist, so I'm limited by what other people make.

Plus, I'm also lazy.

There is no moment of greater terror than when you ask someone to marry you...

Except maybe the vows. Try not to crack your voice

There was only one other panelist up there with me, and that was because I was too chicken to be up there alone. I basically dragged my friend up there. Now I've got the whole thing a little more settled so it is easier to run.

Do we get a prize if we bring back our button from last year?

Maybe...

but probably not. We're on a budget
