im a regular hannibal lecter.

and carebear, i was being rhetorical when i said you were to blame.  read the sentance again, and compare it to the post previous. you will see that I am actually quite anti-glomper.  perhaps you should taper your sensibilities so that they are not so delicate - even if i wasnt actually on your side, if i were to insult you, as you can see i have been insulted on this very thread and others, you have to develop a thick skin.

you have to realize that the Internet is a jungle, a place where expression is by and large untamed; people like jun or pyron troll around and act like they own it. its amazing how much spare time people have. you just have to get used to them.

as for my language, i cleaned it up.  as for the violence you refer to, when someone is battering you, as someone else put it, you have the right to defend yourself, but it might not stop trouble from falling around your head.

a thousand apologies. but it is the sentiment that matters, the essence of the argument, is that being creepy and otherwise socially uncouth has become the status quo, and if you object, it is YOU who is to blame, not the complete stranger who is attempting to smother you.

it would be a start.

well, what do you do suggest be done about it?

you could run away, but i like to hold my ground, and why should I have to run from creepy glompers?

I guess you could shout "DONT FUCKING TOUCH ME" but then you end up looking like a spaz.  Then everyone looks at you like you're the asshole, not the crazy bitch molesting you.

You could kick them in the nuts.  But there is always the if the person complains, you could have your badge stripped for defending yourself while being groped, though you are WELL WITHIN your rights to do so, and that is absolutely terrible.

So what is to be done?

Okay, can we get a revised set of rules for the game up here? there is alot of enthusiasm, but lets try to keep it organized.

the rules should be as simple as possible with as few construction materials employed.

it is unfortunate that there are people at the con who are the type of person who would not turn it in whole to the lost and found.

My chief concern is perhaps finding someone on this forum with a genius idea as to get them to turn it in when they otherwise wouldnt...

some ideas:

signs indicating where the nearest lost and found is.  i think some people might keep the stuff out of laziness.

paper fliers posted up that are like PSAs that encourage people to be careful with their things and for people to turn in what they find.

also, we could have a good Samaritan wall where they take Polaroids of people who turn in the lost items.

its not that i want to reward people for doing what they already should, but rather am more concerned about people losing things and having it drag down their fanime experience.

I agree, the glomping of complete strangers gives con goers a bad rep.  The signs for free hugs and free kisses (funny story - see below) probably arise out of being needy and never getting attention otherwise.  This stuff tends to die down after ten when most of the youngins head home, and the con takes a bit more of a civilized tone.  its tolerated because they make up the demographic of those coming into the con with money that they ABSOLUTELY want to spend on 4 dollar key chains and DVDs and plushie dolls and other ridiculously overpriced accoutrements of anime and manga.

i personally dont like it, but eh, live and let live so long as you dont try to glomp and get slime all over me. I dont want to smell your BO, I dont want to hear the ultra-high-pitch squeal you emit mid glomp, especially at close range.

lets say someone finds a lost wallet.  it has 23$ in it. It has an ID and credit cards, etc.  Currently there is no incentive for this individual to turn this in to the lost and found other then them being a good human being.  I am just trying to find some way of creating a system by which a more scrupulous person would at least think twice before taking the money and throwing the wallet into the garbage, like I have seen people do.

Any ideas?

hmmm... I do kendo, so im not too sure about taking away the head.  I say we keep the head if insurance liabilities constraints will allow us.

loss of limbs... i remember doing a few black knights in my day and winning.

we use some of these martial arts headgear, thus allowing us to target the head safely.

anybody like the idea of a tournament? and would we have bring our own boffers or would they be there at the convention?

I used to do Kendo at SJSU, and I know a bunch of people who do Iaido at San Jose Iaido.  What me to talk to them?

This is from an email exchanged with the head of programming.

"I am ... helping bring the boffer room to Fanime...  Once we have it finalized, more information will appear on our website."

Looks like the Boffer Room is back by popular demand!

FIRST of all, someone for the love of Vash please explain to me what happened in that pic?!?!?!?!

second, the game needs to be ridiculously simple.  We get a photocopy of their badge, and a head/face picture, plus a body picture.  people should be able to wear differnet clothes as people dont always want ot keep wearing their cosplay.  the dog tag idea is a bit complex for practicality - but it is a good idea just for trophy's sake.

we should allow team competition as well.  the captain of the team is the target.

even better? pika-dodgeball tournaments.

if there is going to be a tournament, then the rules must be altered to create competition.

I do not think it would be in the spirit of pika ball if it were to be made into a competitive venture.  THe essence of pika ball is a collective effort to capture a new height, like humanity must bid together in collective action in order to transcend our problems.

.... or maybe just to beat the living crap out of a suffed pikachu.  Either or, really.

if in the case of the latter, competition is okay, i guess. but rules would have to be changed for competition.

a general rule change suggestion: Kicks are worth 2 points.  But thats just 'cause im a ninja and I kick ass, both figuratively and literally.

My con was an almost unbeatable experience. My goal now is to help other people have a great con.

we should have a Good Samaritan Lost and Found award each year at Fanime. The winner who turns in the most valuable lost item gets a free con pass for the next 3 years.

Here here?

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Fanime Speed Dating 2008
January 20, 2008, 06:21:07 PM
i think it is an excellent idea.  Fanime is a place where people of similar interest converge and celebrate one shared love - anime.  and people who like anime tend to like the same things and have compatible personality.  If we can siphon out those who are spoken for by having a speed dating venue, and actually condition people to not have rejection be that big a deal.

I disagree with the characterization of con goers as somehow inhuman.  Some are, yes, but when they face the deterrent of having the cops called and their badge stripped, they will ease off and slink back to the dark moldy corner of the hentai room they came from.

I think that restricting this to people 18 and older though as a precaution would be a prudent course of action.
