Title: Black and White Ball Music for 2009
Post by: tkdteo on October 16, 2008, 03:55:15 PM
Hi everyone,  I am part of the committee for Black and White Ball for 2009.  I wanted to get a jump on things for the upcoming year, so I wanted to hear from people, what songs would you suggest or like to be played at the B&W Ball?  Any suggestions would be great.  I know last year, music from anime, games, and jpop were played.  We were hoping to expand on that for the upcoming year.  So if you do have any good suggestions please let me know in this format:

<Name of song> - <artist/anime it came from> - <What dance it will be for>

Also if you could link me a site to listen or gather the songs, that would be greatly appreciated also.  Thanks for your help.

I'm all for SEAT BELTS music that isn't Tank!/Waltz for Zizi.

I'm not good with ballroom dancing/what type of music and dancing is paired up, but I have noticed that there have been some jazzier songs (that are my personal favourite to dance to). I think that there are probably plenty of Paris Match/JiLL-Decoy association/orange pekoe songs that will work. I can't give any specific suggestions, since I don't know anything about dancing, as I said, but I can PM you some songs as possibilities. Someone who knows more about dancing could problaby give more specific suggestions, though.

I was dissapointed to hear some very unball-like music played this year. Last year was understandable, since it was the first year, but there were a lot of complaints and I was hoping that it would be changed for '08. I understand that we need music that is accessible to the average congoer, but we also need something that adds to the atomosphere of a formal ball. It is hard to find a blend of music that will please the experienced dancer and the average fan, but I feel that music you can hear at any "normal" dance is not something that should be played at a ball. Popular music with a ballroom flair is much better than some of the music I heard.

That said, I think that my above suggestion fits well into music that is accessible to the average person without being the same type of music you would hear at the normal Fanime dances, a wedding, or a high school prom.

Far Away by Nickelback is a great slow song. >w<
It's so romance-y.
Isn't it?
I don't know what dance it should be for though.

Will there be swing dancing at the Ball?

If so, I can suggest some songs. ^^

As of right now we are just putting together music for the ball.  Nothing is final yet as far as the dances go but if you have any suggestions as far as music and/or dances I would be open to hearing them too. So keep the songs and suggestions coming.

requests are great, but unfortunately for the most part, they will fall on quite literally deaf ears without the music you are suggesting.  so, if you guys have access to the music in mp3 format, please send it to [email protected].  we can not guarantee it will get played at the ball, but we will at least be able to take it into consideration.  we are always looking for more music for our selection.

Is K-pop or K-songs in general acceptable? I'm hoping so because I have so many to suggest! Thanks in advance for any reply.

sumi, didn't see those >.<  thanks. :)  a quick note, youtube videos are great for watching but they don't help get the music into the playlist.  we need an mp3 or similar type of audio file.  trying to rip audio from a compressed youtube video isn't an option for a number of reasons, with the major one being that the quality will be horrid and therefor sound like crap.

None of these are Japanese, but I'm requesting them anyway, because they're awesome to dance to. And there wasn't enough swing last year.

Swing: Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Lee Press-On and the Nails, and all of the stuff that's actually from the 20s. (Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, etc)

Waltzes: anything by Strauss.

Personally, I like it if music was traditional ball room music, but I am sure most won't agree with me. There could also be a little bit of other types of music; maybe more upbeat. The macarena or line dancing would be fun too. I think it's fun to learn the ballroom dances and then dance them at the ball. Maybe there could be more fox trot or two step themed music. I don't recall many playing last year.

We do offer Ballroom lessons throughout the weekend specifically for those who want to learn and then dance at the Ball.

Do you have any Fox Trot or Night Club Two Step songs that you would like to hear?

I don't have mp3s for now so I'm just going to make suggestions. Any comments on whether people would find the songs interesting or not would be appreciated though ^w^

Final Fantasy X/Nobou Uematsu - To Zanarkind - Traditional Waltz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHYhRz-ZFss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHYhRz-ZFss)

I know Final Fantasy VIII's Waltz for the Moon was already mentioned, and played last year. This is a Viennese Waltz though, making it twice as fast and harder to dance to as a waltz song, however it's really good for Night Club 2-Step! Anyway, if we are considering Viennese Waltz songs, I have one more:

Gackt - Illness Illusion - Viennese Waltz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThVotnOBuX8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThVotnOBuX8)
---
Rain - Sad Tango - Tango http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIGnY3Jt-V8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIGnY3Jt-V8)
---
Final Fantasy - Swing de Chocobo - Swing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3F3YZDN2lM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3F3YZDN2lM)
---
Frank Sinatra - Fly Me to the Moon (another rendition of this song can be heard as the ending to Neon Genesis Evangelion) - Fox Trot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t3yjTTJFNI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t3yjTTJFNI)

Would people be interested in any contemporary American songs used for Ballroom? Someone else had mentioned k-pop or other Korean music, and I know I'd certainly be interested in that!

These are supposed to be good for Fox trot: "You Make Me Feel So Young" - Frank Sinatra
"I've Got You Under My Skin" - Frank Sinatra
"Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" - Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong
"Night and Day" - Dionne Warwick

At the bottom of the page there is some midi of swing music: http://swing-music.com/coolstuff.html

And here's a huge list for two-step: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Wil/2step.htm

I liked the songs the convention used last year for the ball and practice.

Most of these are slow/waltz songs (I'm a waltz dancer :P) but I hope at least one of them makes it on the dance list :3

So Close - Jon McLaughlin/Enchanted - Waltz/2-Step
Can I Have This Dance - Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens / High School Musical 3 - Waltz
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls - Waltz
Before It's Too Late - Goo Goo Dolls / Transformers - Waltz
Time Of Your Life - David Cook - Waltz
Cherish - NEWS - Asian Pop
Mario Kart Love Song - Sam Hart - Slow/Acoustic (I know it's overrated but it'd be cute to dance to and a couple was cosplaying as Mario and Peach :D)
Real Me - Ayumi Hamasaki - Asian Pop
Here in Your Arms - Hellogoodbye - Electropop/Indie
Touchdown Turnaround - Hellogoodbye - Electropop/Indie
Bonnie Taylor Shakedown - Hellogoodbye - Electropop/Indie

Again I really really HOPE that there is a waltzable song besides that ballroom song in Final Fantasy 8. Preferrably one of my suggestions please ^^

I have the MP3s so I'm not sure who to e-mail them to ... is there an admin that can tell me? :D

Hi there,

Jim here.  The date for Fanime is getting closer and we are still looking for music to use.  If you have any suggestions for music please send it in mp3 format to [email protected].  If not, you can attend the General meetings for Fanime and you will see either myself or Eugene (head of BWBall) there and you can give us the music on a cd or usb drive.  We are not guaranteeing that we are going to play them, but we will try as hard as we can to accomodate your suggestions.  I hope that helps.

did you have files attached?  if so it could be your isp not allowing the size.  alternately, it could be our email service that is kicking it back due to size.  otherwise, i'm out of ideas.

Just a couple of songs - some not from any particular anime, but might fit in the ball just fine.

For all the tango fans out there - "Por una cabeza" by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Lepera

Beautiful World - Uteda Hikaru
I Do - Yoko Kanno

E-mail sent with links to MP3s.
