Title: Was this Fanime's doing?
Post by: Xanreo on June 08, 2013, 02:31:42 AM
On Friday night at around 9, I was hanging out by the Fairmont and noticed a big stage and projection screen. I checked it out and they were showing the dubbed Oblivion Island film.

I didn't stay for long but I thought it was fantastic.

Was Fanime responsible for this 'Movie Under the Stars' thing?

I'd totally laugh if it was the doings of the local businesses in that plaza

San Jose shows free movies outdoors during the summer... maybe you caught one?

Wait... Oblivion Island?  haha... doubt it was a free San Jose movie night thing.

Did some Googling and found info on it.

The FanimeCon Outdoor Film Festival.

Apparently, they also showed Summer Wars and TokiShoujo on Saturday and Sunday night, respectively.
Organized not by Fanime but by Chris Esparza from Giant Creatives.

Ah, man I wish I had known sooner.

Agreed... things like this totally should have been advertised better.  Seems like a waste of an effort if people don't know about it.

It was a joint venture between FanimeCon and Giant Creative (the same people who do a lot of activities in downtown San Jose) to produce this and we worked closely with them to make it happen.

That being said, we did promote this but it's not always going to reach everyone. If we do this again, we'll try to promote it better.
