For those staying at the Mariott:

I just called the hotel to confirm the deposit rates.  It's $50/night if you pay with your credit card, and then $100/night if you're paying with cash.  And this rate still applies during con.

Just a quick question:  The hotels don't charge me anything beforehand, correct?  I understand the whole deposit and the price of stay is due at check-in.  I just want to make sure I don't get random hotel charges before con even starts.

Giving up a room:

Hello all!  My boyfriend and I decided that we don't have the time spend three nights at Fanime, so we're looking to give it up to someone who might need it.

Hotel room - Mariott
Room type - Double
Length of stay - three nights (Friday through Monday)

We are not looking for roommates, we are simply looking to give this room to someone.  As far as prices go, please feel free to shoot me a message.

I have found someone.  Thank you all for your interest.

Okay, if anyone out there is working on behalf of oneesan inc, please take the following as constructive criticism.  This is nothing personal.

I went with my boyfriend, and when we first stepped into the Fairmont.  We had no idea where the event was held.  There were no signs or anything pointing towards an information kiosk or the actual boutique (Mistake #1).  My boyfriend and I spotted a group of lolitas and finally asked one of them.  She kindly pointed us towards the stairs, and still no signs around.  We went up the stairs, and there was the Magical Boutique.

We walked in and saw that whoever was running the boutique was beginning to close shop, but seeing as this was our last resort to checking in for the Lolita event, we decided to ask whoever was there at the moment.  We were greeted with an abrupt "What are you doing here?"  There was no sense of manners or consideration in this man's voice.  (Mistake #2)  My boyfriend finally explained that we needed our tickets for the event.  The man then proceeded to give us our wristbands and what not.

The boyfriend and I just chill for a bit in the lobby until about an hour goes by.  Apparently, they decided to start a little late...like two hours late! (Mistake #3)  Obviously, if something is running late/is broken/is not working out, you would want to know why it isn't working out, but the staff failed to give us an explanation of exactly why the event was running late.

The staff finally sat everyone, but what bothered me the most was that they failed to check wristbands.  Earlier on, the man that had "helped" my boyfriend and I earlier said that we would have to be escorted out by security had we not had the bands on.  When we entered the room in which the event was held in, no one, and I mean, NO ONE went through the trouble of checking the wristbands, and I'm pretty sure one or two girls got in without having to pay the $65 fee.  (Mistake #4)

They finally started and did Miss EGL, which entailed a Q&A portion and a talent portion.  Then Kokusyoku Sumire played for about an hour.  As I sat there for an hour and a half, I wondered what happened to the fully catered lunch we were supposed to receive.  My stomach tossed and turned in unison with the many starving lolitas out there.  I heard quite a bit of crunching and wrapper noises as many lolitas went into their goodie bags for something to eat.  I then realized there was going to be no catered lunch like promised (Mistake #5)

After Kokusyoku Sumire, the staff released us for a half hour break while they set up the afternoon tea.  I don't know why they had to do this, I think many people would have been fine with sitting around while everyone was shuffling around with hot water and trays of desserts.  (Mistake #6)  30 minutes pass, and everyone takes a seat, grabs a cup of tea and a couple desserts and sits down for the fashion show.  Where is the lunch?  My boyfriend was slightly peeved by the fact that he spent $65 to have tea served in a mug.  Hahahahah.  Warm water in a mug, he calls it.

Because the event ran two hours late, it really messed with my schedule, and the boyfriend and I left after the conclusion of the fashion show.  I heard they eventually served lunch (more like early dinner) after Miss EGL, but I can't be too sure.

I just felt that everyone was being so secretive about it, and that someone had to open their big mouth and say something.  I can't say that I'll be returning for the event or supporting oneesan inc. after this mishappening.

No, I'm sorry.  None of the gloomy bears are available.  I really need to update that now...

Someone mentioned the Lolita event on this thread. Was the Lolita event ever part of Fanime or was it separate from Fanime? I never saw it listed in the program. I only found out about it while I was exploring the Fairmont during the ball.

It was a completely separate event under oneesan inc.    They had a fashion show, a tea party, a lolita pageant, lunch, and a concert.  It sounds really great when I type it all out, but it didn't happen that way at all.

Haha, this isn't specific to fanime, but the fact that I spent four hours at that lolita event at the fairmont.  Never ever again.

Haha yup, that's me! And it's no problem. I felt like I was spread pretty thin as it was because I was trying to meet up with so many friends. n__n;;
Next year for sure! If either of us remembers, that is. xD

Oh, no worries!  I was spread pretty thin too.  D;  I had no time to hang out with people outside of my main circle.

I wish I'd made it back without catching something. But I guess I always do. ;   A;"
This year was probably the most fun I've had in all my years at Fanime so far.

Some highlights for me were:
- getting to room with a different set of friends than previous years
- trying out speed dating and getting hit on by a random passerby before it even started (if you happen to be that guy who was making heart-signs at me from outside, hey! Send me a PM hahaha~)
- playing some epic Apples to Apples at early hours of the morning without sleep
- Yaoi bingo. HAY ANTON HAAAY <3
- connecting Pokéwalkers with a ton of people

And so many other good things. It was definitely a good year.

Ahhh, where you that one girl Dainty Devotchka was going to trade contact info over gaiaonline with so we could meet up?  D;  I'm sorry I never pm'd you.  Maybe next year?

After dealing with a huge mess with my parents at the beginning of the week, I'm glad they mustered up enough trust to let me go to fanime on saturday and sunday.  Saturday was somewhat of a fail because I went to that lolita event at the fairmont, and the fact that they started a bit late ruined my schedule completely.  I was really happy I got to spend that time with my boyfriend though.  And then sunday, I just walked around in my mudkip cosplay even though I forgot to bring my shorts to wear along with it.  D;  Even though one guy took my picture, it really made my day, so if you dressed up in what I thought looked like Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender and you happened to take my picture, please send it my way!

Thank you so much for everything!  I really had a great time.  I liked the fact that you and Jun were able to host our huge group.   All the maids were incredibly polite, even when two members of our group sneaked in through the exit.  Both the mango and chocolate mousse cakes tasted wonderful.

But it would have been nice to have another set of rock em sock em robots.  I had to leave early, and by the time I got to play with it, I had to go.  D;  I'm not sure who it was, but one of the maids who saved it for me was really considerate about my leaving and left the game for everyone else in my group.

I'm going to have to agree with you on the lolitas and cosplayers.  There was an event at the fairmont for the lolitas though, so that would explain all of them.

I honestly think it's just about the people you go with.

Yes yes.. so so MANY lolitas.. some were.. unfortunately (no offense to those who dressed as lolitas) not very detailed to even be called a "Lolita."
I agree: It does depend on the people you go with, & how many times you've possibly been at Fanime.

Nevertheless.. I had fun. =3=

Oh gosh, don't even get me started on some of the girls' coordination of outfits.  /snaps fingers
