Title: online pre-registering for 2013
Post by: warbearer on November 19, 2012, 08:05:51 PM
Hi I would like to know when the online pre-registering for fanime 2013 will go online?

We are working with some changes to our system and so will not be able to get reg up as early as last year. I don't have an estimate as to when, but please keep checking the website, forums, facebook, or twitter.

Thanks

Well last year Reg wasn't up until January so...

Anyways, I made a spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AojwYNhOUmRNdG1PbEtKQVRNQWZQQXktMERqV0VJcVE#gid=0

(This is in no way meant to be official at all. I have no affiliation with Fanime's Reg or Web or Hotel staff teams. This is simply just me noticing a few math-based trends and pointing them out for purposes of discussion.)

You've figured out everything!!!

Watch out for FanimeCon 2020 and FanimeCon 2021 - where pre-reg will happen AFTER the convention... Our themes for those years happen to be "Time Traveling!"

(Yes, post was made as a joke.)

No need to be rude. Its her name on the room she can list what ever rules she wants.

I use the no drinking rule when ever I host rooms. The reason, you never know if you end up with people under the drinking age. Besides no one wants to hear the wonderfull sounds of a bad hangover in the morring.

Besides it not like your being forced into becoming her room mate. So in other words it is not your problem.

Yikes, time to get my group in order. Hopefully since its on my birthday I'll have good luck with a room this year?  :-X

Sorry if this was already answered, but do you have to buy your badge registration before you can book a hotel room? This is the first year I'm doing things out of order.

Hotel and badge registrations are completely separate. (To the best of my knowledge. It has been that way in years past. I do not know if since they are opening at the same time they will bundle together the types of registrations into one webapp or, most likely, they will be separate.)

You do not have to have a badge to book a room though so in that regard it does not matter as far as registering goes.

In my honest opinion I would get your room first before they all get snatched up like last year. Registration is easy to do and doesn't have a limited number of availability.

Like Gigantor mentioned, you don't need to buy the membership before booking the hotel. They're pretty separate.

When does pre-reg end??   I tried looking on the main site and the FAQ's, but I could not find any specific date about it, Im sorry if it was said before or if I just missed it while I reading; but am I to assume there is no current date for pre-reg end currently??

I must say i am very displeased with how fanime is running this year. some of the things are fine. but to not notify your customers on an exact day that it would change is ridiculous! yes they show it on here. but i hardly go on here at all and am mostly using facebook and expect updates on there. for shame  >:(

it can go either way. the emphasis is for the individual  user to try to stay in-tuned with Fanime as much as possble (at least that's what my undstranding is...)

I would suggest you login to facebook at least 3 sec a day(duration being to check updates and stuff) to check for any more fanime updates... then proceed to your daily routines(reddit, yahoo, etc...). Ir may be(obviously) debatabily fruitless efforts, but nonetheless- it is promising.... there is always a point to try and do something other than "add a friend" when it comes to facebook.... is no longer a social media site these days- but a propaganda/multimedia distributer...

In short summary, add fanime to your facebook or create one and do so- and then follow them on a second-per-daily basis... it may seem a bit uber... but in reality, it's a only as simple as checking the articles in a newspaper... and they only get published at last-second, so their info is more accurate than yesterday's newscaster on tv...

which very few people read newspapers thesedays :( ...

[my apologizes for any future misunderstandings...]

I made a similar post here (http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,17900.60.html) (on the Registration FAQ thread). I really do hope the Social Media team sees this and is more active in informing people about changes, because I think there will be a lot of ire ensuing by people who felt they weren't properly notified. I know it's not intentional, and likely just an oversight (because they've been very good about informing everyone in previous years), but I think this may cause people to speculate negative intentions from the staff. Hopefully they're listening and will announce the next price change more publicly!

We may consider actively publicizing the coming of an price increase. However, I do want to point out that up till last year, the price break schedule was not public.

Ah, I apologize for my misremembering. I think I thought so just because it felt like the Facebook/Twitter team was more active last year (but it's still early and there's probably not much to announce at this point).

I think people would really appreciate the effort to make it more public, and it may even result in more attendance since everyone has different budgets and may not be able to justify paying $60-$65, but would be okay paying the initial $50. Therefore, publicizing the price point dates may allow those people with stricter budgets to sign up when they're capable of getting the lower price. It may seem like an unlikely scenario for an adult with a job, but if you can imagine the many teenagers that attend, who have parents that pay for their badges, it's a lot easier for them to convince their parents to pay for a $50 badge than the other price points. So, I think that it may end up actually being in Fanime's favor to promote the lower prices more noticeably! More attendees = more revenue = better things for Fanime attendees.

EDIT: I'm not totally crazy! There have been times in the past where price changes have been announced through Facebook/Twitter/Website front page! It'd be great to see reminders like these again!

(I removed the img tags so that this quoted post wasn't as big.)

I apologize that we did not post any updates that the price was going up. We will do it with the rest of the price changes... Since there are many eyes on this post, what would you say is a good reminder? One week before? Two weeks before? (etc.) Keep in mind that we also got feedback that we shouldn't post too many things as people have it set to e-mail/text them whenever something goes out on Twitter so we've been trying to keep it to mostly news posts.

I had a question about group registration. So I'm helping some friends buy their badges in a group reg but I already have a badge being bought for me as a booth worker. Does the "leader" badge need to have my name on it? How does this work? Thanks :]
Title: Re: online pre-registering for 2013
Post by: Kuudere on February 19, 2013, 08:58:47 PM
I think that one week before would be sufficient for most people (and perhaps a second reminder the day of could be helpful), and will let them know that Fanime is making the effort to maintain communication about important issues.

Side rant: Twitter is a subscription-type service, so it seems kind of silly to me that there are people who complain about receiving messages. Push notification is an optional feature...if they're sick of seeing messages that are helpful to others, they can turn it off (and they don't have to even turn off all notifications - they can specifically just select Fanime's Twitter account!). But I don't expect Fanime staff to spend time educating everyone on how to use Twitter. It just saddens me that one social media outlet is less useful simply because people don't understand how to change their personal settings. </rant>

Anyway, once again I appreciate the attention the staff gives to our suggestions! I'm glad that it's being considered for future changes, and I'm certain that attendees will be happy for the heads up!

Someone from Registration will correct me, but I am mostly certain that the leader's name doesn't appear on anyone else's badge but their own. The leader is mainly the person that will be picking up all of the badges during FanimeCon.

1-2 days and 7 days before is the current plan, so we will continue this plan. :)

I mostly agree with you on your rant. However, I do have to say that even though you can choose to subscribe (and how it contacts you even), there is no way to differentiate which updates are pushed through the service to you. I would personally love a way to mark tweets as "high priority" (e.g. major last second scheduling changes) vs "normal priority" (e.g. Registration price deadlines) vs "low priority" (e.g. "we've updated our Twitter icon, come check it out!").

Group registration permits one person purchasing a regular guest membership to purchase additional memberships through the same or subsequent transactions. Because one person is paying for the remaining memberships, that one person is permitted to register all the memberships at the convention and receive all the badges associated with those memberships at the same time. This can be done without the people which those other memberships are associated with to be present.

It appears that you are coming to the convention as a vendor in the dealers hall. Your badge is entirely separate from the registration of all our attendees. Because of this, you may not use your badge as a "leader" membership. Please also note that such a vendor badge does not permit you to either purchase an artist alley table or a swap meet space.

I noticed that the price change reminder was posted on Twitter, so thank you for doing that! But I was wondering if you planned on posting it to Facebook as well? Fanime's Twitter has about 5,000 followers, but their Facebook has 19,000 - nearly 4x the audience. It couldn't hurt to use that as well.
