If there's is a Yaoi screening how come there isn't  a Yuri Screening? I already looked at the schedule and couldn't find it.
Because unlike Hentai night and Yaoi night I guess there is a higher chance at people masturbating secretly? The yaoi stuff is basically just filled with fangirls squeeing the whole time and the hentai stuff they show is HILARIOUS! There are too many yuri animes that aren't not serious and guys do like their girl/girl action. Not saying chicks dont, but its a little harder for THEM to do anything unless they come prepared or somethin'.

So, I'm packing right now. I'm going to have so much stuff, I almost feel bad for the giant corner of the Hotel Room I'll have to claim. I've got:
-Two Flagpoles (With Flags)
-Giant garbage bag with wigheads (For displaying wigs during the swap meet)
-My camera, tripod, and reflectors
-My Laptop bag
-A little Gothic Lolita purse
-My Sewing Machine
-My Electric Bass for one of my cosplays
-A paper bag of food for my hotelmates
-A big suitcase with my cosplays/clothes
-A duffel bag with costumes for the swap meet
-A big bag with all the books/DVD's/Fabrics for the swap meet.

I feel like I'm forgetting something....

Ahahahahha~ I see Kate. :D

I just finished packing! :D My friend who isn't even cosplaying has one x-large suitcase, and a smaller, but still large one with just shoes. SHOES. :|

Me, who is cosplaying three things, has one large suitcase with all my cosplay stuff including shoes, cosplays, wigs, accessories. Then another, smaller suitcase with clothes not for cosplaying in as well as normal shoes, and then a smaller suitcase even with all make-up, hair supplies, deodorant, clippers for wigs in case, hairsprays, hair gels, contacts, and other random stuff. THEN! I have a little stand up bag that has things like lotion and facial cleansers that have dispenser tops that I don't trust having in my suitcase in case something presses on them and they crap goes everywhere.

:D And we are staying in a house fully supplied of all bath needs we require and beds. 30 minute drive down 101 to get to the convention center, but its worth it, plus free meals!

Registration / Re: Questions about IDs!
May 24, 2011, 11:33:02 PM
It seems that only I need an ID? Yes?

You have registered multiple people, so remember that you, the group leader, must be present to pick up the badges for the group.

As the group leader, you will be REQUIRED to have a valid government-issued photo ID!

If you do not have one, please make the necessary arrangements to obtain one prior to the convention, or work with someone in your group who has a valid government-issued photo ID and see if they would be willing to assume the leadership roll.

I /am/ group leader after all. So my friend should be okay then yes? She just can't drink anything even if Fanime sold alcoholic beverages.

She's never been outside of the country before, so she's never had a reason to get a passport. Maybe I should email a member of the Fanime team personally and ask?

Registration / Questions about IDs!
May 24, 2011, 08:46:43 PM
My friend told me just today that her driver's license expired and Fanime is too soon to be able for her to go to the DMV to get a knew one! She has a photocopy of a more recent picture of her that the DMV took that has her date of birth and such on it! If she can bring that and the drivers license and say even a school ID can she still get in!? D: I'm really worried! She didn't even realize it expired until she went to go get some vodka [She's 21] and they declined to sell her any because her card is expired. She IS registered and I am too and we have been since February and if she can't get her badge because of it I don't know what we will do!

Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back at me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me. But if he stopped using ladies' scented bodywash and switched to Old Spice he could smell like he's me.

Look down, back up. Where are you? You're at Fanime with the man your man could smell like. What's in your hand? Back at me. I have it. It's an oyster with two tickets to Yamaga-san's party. Look again, the tickets are now pocky! Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not like a lady. I am in line for FLOW. *old spice whistle*

Omg! Who are you cosplaying as? xD I want to find you at Fanime now.

Is this dress acceptable? It is the right length and everything. Just wanted to make sure.

I have a question. The rules state a prop gun may not be pointed at any time during the convention. Is this an exception for when taking photos though? Such as when you strike a pose and you have to pint you gun, at say, someone in the photo also who is supposed to have their 'hands up' or at the photographer?

A good deodorant should certainly be on the packing list for Fanime, but Axe smells like an asthma attack.

I'm totally about to start packing.... AGAIN!

Weeeee. Laundry done! I love lists.
Srsly. I tell my boyfriend NOT to use Axe, but instead to just wear his Old Spice deodorant. <3 That shit smells like heaven to me. And it comes and goes when he raises his arms. xD That way it isn't overbearing.

Hello! I made this really classy dress and I'm not quite sure if I can get in with it. Even though it is formal, it's shorter in the front and longer in the back and on the sides. Here is a very similar dress, but mine is floor length.

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://wardrobemag.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/aoso-c2a385.jpg&imgrefurl=http://wardrobemag.wordpress.com/2010/12/15/the-final-x-factor-fashion-off/&usg=__ikC0D4kDVNv6mysfDtoZmalJT9o=&h=370&w=290&sz=22&hl=en&start=29&sig2=f5rPnqeezOuAYMTqSt4-nQ&zoom=1&tbnid=014QLMoLkq6a1M:&tbnh=150&tbnw=110&ei=mh3cTc0EiqKwA5_e6LQO&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmullet%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1275%26bih%3D816%26tbm%3Disch0%2C842&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=271&sqi=2&page=2&ndsp=31&ved=1t:429,r:21,s:29&tx=77&ty=65&biw=1275&bih=816

It's sheer like that on the bottom too, but over all I believe it to be formal all the same.. I just don't want to have put in all this work and be denied entry -_-

As long as the front of it isn't high than 2" about the knees. Also make sure no one can see through that sheer.

I think it's weird that someone would. I wouldn't necessarily talk down to them or think badly of them but I usually think of cosplaying as a character you really like from whatever medium he/she/it is from.

Being in a group is more "forgiving" I guess but I'll still find it weird anyway.

That being said, I think that the person who never seen the source material should at least read about whatever they are cosplaying from to know the general feel of the character and look at various screenshots or whatever images are available so that when they get their picture taken, they can pose not too OOC.
Like the people who constantly do peace signs just because its something that a lot of Japanese people do in pictures, but not the character.

What do you think about people who cosplay from anything such as a tv show/anime/manga/video game/movie who have NEVER even SEEN the said source of inspiration they are cosplaying from?

Is being in a group cosplay considered an exception to this rule because a lot of people drag their friends to do it? Or is it only bad when you cosplay alone?

What to bring:

A flat of red bull: To keep you going throughout the con.
A can of Axe body spray: To sidestep that whole "showering" issue (Hygiene's so overrated!)
A costco bin of red vines: to provide you with invaluable nutrients.

That's about it. Anything else is unnecessary. [/sarcasm]
A lot of girls can tell you that after a while the smell of not showering and then mixing Axe with it, tends to smell FAR too strong and frankly disgusting. Just shower.

Sorry, I think you missed the sarcasm the first time around. I have bolded it.  ;D
Honestly, I did. I did miss it. xD I will not lie.

Trust me, I am no fan of fanboy funk. :D
Thank gawd. That's a relief. D:

http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,10782.0.html
There's the old thread on the concept of Yuri related events. The second page really brings up the points of why something like Yuri bingo wouldn't work.
yea i agree that the girls are at more of a risk. I think the main reason why we guys want it is because we dont think its fair the yoai is so common at fanime while yuri is only sold on DVD and no manga or yuri events. I think if more yuri events and other things happened it wouldnt be a problem. But without it guys (yes im male to) will eather say yuri strip bingo to or not do both. I saw yuri bingo is 100% ok just take out the problem no REAL girls getting nakied and yuri prizes.

Ok more on topic. GL at bingo!!! i can assure you i wont be there unless i get riped in 2.5 hours and stay that way and become one of the guys.
I don't know. I personally consider the Maid Cafe yuri enough. The staff have said completely that there would never be a Host Club, but they allow the girls to serve men instead of ever having men serve women. Though they girls are naked or hitting on each other it is still one of the only female events at fanime.

Na i think guys are allowed to join but they have the were the maid outfit. And they are naked and hitting on each other WAAA the year i went all i got was a sandwich they put on a table infront of me and said enjoy
Guys are not allowed to join in at the Maid Cafe. Even if they crossdress. It isn't a crossdressing cafe, it's a FEMALE maid cafe. There is another name for a crossdressing cafe. Can't quite remember it, but it was talked about on Sankaku. And my maid didn't do that at all. Or rather maids. ;3 They gave me food, walked me to the table, I ate a few bites while she walked away and let my friend and I chat, then came back and bowed and asked if we wanted to play a game. We said yes, then we played little board games with her like, "Pop the Pirate" and "Pop the Dragon". :D It was fun. Then we took pictures with her and she walked us out.

The difference between a host club and a maid cafe are always going to be different. They are not alike in any way. A host Club hires men who intentionally flirt with the customers to get their temperatures rising. While a maid cafe is merely cutesey which is why some can find it erogenous. The maids don't flirt, but rather give out the adorably outrageous cute factor to make their customers happy, not horny, happy. A HOSTESS club on the other hand is like as host club, but that's far too dangerous for Fanime to ever do because in a hostess club some men are allowed to touch women and they are dressed extremely provocatively. Now a hostess club is also not a strip club.

The whole reason Fanime doesn't want something like a host club or a female/yuri bingo is because it holds a risk of danger. There are some people at fanime, that I know from experience, that are downright creepy and touchy. I've had people randomly come up and hug me and to me that is frightening. Especially if they grab you from behind and hug around your chest, or hug you from the front and squeeze you tightly. It hard for girls to get hugs without her chest being involved because to me the lower the guys hands are when he hugs a stranger, the creepier it is. Now this is just my personal opinion. So to have a yuri bingo who knows what kind of creeper watching could, perhaps, stalk to girl to her room later, or if she is at the convention alone, walk to her car later, and some guy tries to hit on her and such. That isn't acceptable and unlike the men they can't always defend themselves. Or if she is walking around the con' in general and the same guy keeps following her and taking pictures of her without her permission.

Okay, now for the host club thing. A lot of girls, even I, agree that a host club would be a wonderful idea, however, even though the men can defend themselves and such, the idea of being hit on and then told to leave probably isn't the best self-esteem booster for most woman and I think the fanime people probably recognize that. Unlike the maid cafe where girls don't hit on the boys, but instead just act cute and giggle, the boys in a host club usually touch girls hands, say sweet things to them to make them all giddy and get their temperature up. Fanime isn't about that. Unless it is in the Hentai/Yaoi night stuff, but even there, there isn't someone personally going around and touching you. AND a lot of girls don't have boyfriend at fanime and vice-versa to men, so to have a host club for women who have no boyfriends, some could be just as creepy as men and stalk them too.

And also.. A half naked man isn't the same as a half naked woman. Men can show their chest, women can't. Even though it's practically equal to wearing a bathing suit, the idea of guys taking pictures of the half naked girls and posting them on the internet after the yuri event is also a huge concern because this would be invading privacy. And... I can't think of too many girls who would willingly let their pictures be taken in their underwear at fanime and let you post them on the internet or have you keep them as keepsakes. It's just wrong.
