So, according to my sources, SVGL has recently come into ownership of a Blazblue machine. Anyone interested in playing a few matches sometime this week?
damnit, if i could only get there....
This I can corroborate.
I haven't heard any word on price, however.
Finally.. but do they have SF4 in yet? :P
Blazblue is amazing. I got to play it beta at Evo. And no on Street Fighter 4, but who cares about it?
SF4 still looks interesting, but the character reactions are a little exaggerated, IMO. Any word on if they will get Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
Went yesterday, confirmed price: 2 points/50 cents (technically less if you pay for card points in bulk, of course).
Going tomorrow. :3
I should try it out one of this days if I have a chance
Hey, i'm gonna be there this morning. Look out for a guy with long hair and a beard. That's me.
I've been there playing this game Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sun. If anyone saw the green Rachel player, that's me. :3
wow you guys sure crowded that machine on wednesday. i was over at T6, but i noticed the huge crowd blocking the isle. :P
We'll probably be like that again this Wednesday too.
If anyone's interested in playing or at least seeing this game in action, come for arcade mania Wednesday evening this week (or any week for that matter). As far as I know, most of the BB players in NorCal for now are coming. If anyone's familiar with the NorCal GG or MBAC scene, expect to see a lot of familiar faces.
Why does it seem like 1 crowd plays all of the anime-like fighting games? :P

Unlike you, my comment was a direct reply to the comment that all of the known GG and MBAC players would be there today.
So no, the same can't be said about me. lol.
Also, I thought you guys were going to crowd it again like last week. :P was only like 1/2 the crowd today.

Surprised me too. I expected more. At least we saw a couple of GG players who haven't exactly been playing the game yet.
Since it was a smaller crowd though, we got more games in. Too good!
Is blazeblue still only in arcade? i'm tempted to play, but theres a tekken6 machine i cant ignore ;D
Yes, arcade onry. No word on when the console version will be released. It was just released to arcades on 11/19 in Japan and 11/20 in the US.
Last I heard, BB was scheduled to launch on PS3 sometime in '09, but this has most likely changed.
I was there at SVGL about a week ago I wanted to play it but there was so many people that I didn't get a chance to play it.
So I finally played the full build at Chinatown Fair in New York (along with new Melty Blood.) It's really good, and beautiful. My only gripe is the penalty comes FASTER than Guilty Gear's so Rachel doesn't seem to effective as I thought she would have been, but she's still pretty good in my eyes. I didn't get to play too much with it, since both times I had to go to either Philly for NEC, or go to my grandparent's place. Ragna and Noel seems to be very autopilot characters at this time with the game, hopefully it'll change.

Negative penalty isn't too bad. I hear it just takes hitting a few buttons to make the game think your less defensive.
Rachel is considered by some to be top right now. She has good block strings/combos, anti-air, and damage. I personally don't see why anyone would put her above Arakune though. I also wonder sometimes if Ragna and Tager should be higher than her too. I won't dispute that she should probably be considered high though.
Ragna has variation in his game. He gets combos off a lot of different hits anywhere on the screen, so it's not always the same routine. And most Noels I see now don't go autopilot on her chain drives. They're kinda risky to just toss out there all willy-nilly.
I went to the cabinet this afternoon after my final and it seems like a lot of people are using Taokaka and Tager aside from the usual crew. It's too early to tell tiers but it seems like Tao's pretty high up, and given the Rachel footage I've seen she's pretty high up as well. As for Ragna he's pretty there (Damage it up like Sol, really).
Jin's still pretty annoying though for JP "low tier".

Yeah, I figured with the running to either drop a pole or something when I IAD, to make it seem like I'm not totally running away (although punishing someone to be defensive is not good imo.) I know when I was at University Pinball, I saw Marn just beating people left and right (although who gives 2 craps about him) with autopilot Noel, but it seemed like most of the good players didn't want to go on just because no one wanted to be near him (lol.) She seems to have material to be high tier, and I believe her to be top, but the game seems pretty balanced outside of Carl being weaker than the cast. I don't remember too well, partially due to my tiredness, but I think Justin Wong saying Rachel is top.
I wanna go back~
Just so you dont all rush to SVGL, at the bottem floor of the Student Union at San Jose State University in their Arcade, there are 2 Street Fighter 4 machines and a BlazBlue machine. o-o; Have fun.
The SJSU cab is a standard American standup cab with HAPP Competition stick and buttons. It has a standard resolution monitor running the game @480i at 4:3. The SVGL cab is a JP-style sitdown cab with Sanwa stick and buttons. It has an HD screen running it @720p at 16:9.
Quite honestly, there's no good reason to go to SJSU unless you're more used to American sticks. And, even then, you'll have to deal with the picture being compressed horizontally because the game runs natively in 16:9.
SJSU is slated to get a new custom cab with HD screen and Sanwa parts in time for the next semester. That can be anytime between now and the end of January. Until then, I think SVGL is obviously the better choice.
I'm hoping to try this game tomorrow along with DJ Max Technika at SVGL, though it's going to be rather crowded for sure... or at least not until 3ish when all the elementary/middle/high school kids get out of school.

shouldn't they be reserving such parts for tekken 6 BR? IIRC they're planning to get a machine with the new version release.

Actually, according to a friend of mine there's a dipswitch to make it compatable with 4:3. Someone should tell whoever runs it to fix it.

If you're talking about the stick and buttons, OCE has plenty of Sanwa parts. They plan to put them on the GGAC cab for the next semester too. If you're talking about the screen, I can't say anything about that.

Played this at SVGL this morning (arcade mania)
No one was playing it, everyone was huddled around the T6 machine
So I got to go through the game fully (on one credit) with Jin
I really like his play style and I couldn't get any BIG combos off but I won a few matches
... until a NOEL raped me
YES!
BlazBlue was announced for console release this summer!
To add onto it it's confirmed for 360, and PS3.
There is also a Blazblue machine at MGL if you're in the area. It's JP style...but not sit down like SVGL. They also have Tekken 6 BR. Last time I was there the two machines were right next to each other. No SF4 so far..I think.

Yeh. It used to be 3 tokens to play and 1 to continue, but they changed it.
It's three rounds now, but 3 tokens to play and 3 tokens to continue :(. This game makes me poor quick...that and I lose nearly every time lol. Probably best to go during Wed night/Thursday/Sat morning specials. I believe there is also another machine at SJSU
The Blazblue scene at SVGL is very well established. You can find some of the top players (like Ricky and Goryus) there. I'm usually around almost every day from 4-7pm - if not later. Some of you may have seen me as a blue Tao player. In any case, if you want to know the locations of all the Blazblue cabs, then go here http://platial.com/map/BlazBlue-Arcade-Machine-Locations/577119 (http://platial.com/map/BlazBlue-Arcade-Machine-Locations/577119)
For those of you who are new to the game, I'll be happy to give you tidbits of advise and combo execution stuffs. From my experience, SVGL has some fierce competition and MGS has more people who are new to the game (plus 3/5 rounds).
If fanime gets a BB cab, then I'll be seeing you all there!

And it's fun to play against Ricky, but not when he's the only one there. :< Speaking of which, there's a BB ranbat tomorrow.
I assume you're the asian guy with glasses that always uses a blue taokaka.

It was Ricky Ortiz vs Veteru.
Ragna vs Ragna.

3- Goryus

I finally got to try out this game while I was on the SFSU campus for a class I had. I don't normally play on arcade machines, so I was a bit rusty but I was able to get the hang of it after two games. Love using Ragna, tried out Taokaka for a bit too. Hoping to get the console game when it comes out in June =)

AKA major balance issues ruin an otherwise great game.
The only character that has no chance against top tier would be Tager.
Quote from: buzzsaw13 on May 12, 2009, 10:27:13 PM

Carl and Haku-Men are equally boned against the top tier characters. The rest of the cast fares better, but not by much. Both V-13 and Arakune (but mostly V) can totally shut down every other character in the game, unless they can somehow manage to make it through a nigh endless barrage of projectile spam. Rachel (In my opinion, she's not really broken) has retarded pressure, but that's about it. Ragna just needs to die. Most of his moves have insane priority, and nearly everything he has is safe on block. As I said above, V and Arakune can both spam projectiles and play keep away the entire match with next to no problems. Of course, Arakune has to land his cloud first, but considering that it stays out until arakune gets hit AND curses on block, it's still pretty retarded. After it connects, it's just a matter of Arakune spamming bugs and playing keep away until you die. As for V, she can just do 20 hit projectile combos from full screen all day. People say that once you get in close against V and Arakune, you've got a good chance of beating them, but considering how hard it is to get in close when you have to dodge a hojillion projectiles (which are often coming at you from multiple directions), I would take this with a grain of salt.
So, as I said, major balance issues.
EDIT: The other characters do have a chance to beat these characters, it's just that it takes an insane amount of effort for most of them. (And often times luck)
Carl isn't nearly as bad off as Tager and Haku-men. At least he can do obscene amounts of damage. As hard as it is to get people in his loops.
Word on the street some secret enigma is coming down to Fanime to enter Aksys tourney.
God damn this game is awesome. Aksys wins to have the game set up in the dealer's room. I got my ass handed to me more than a dozen time but I just can't stop picking Noel every time I played. Girls with guns = win.
So, apparently me rage-quitting this game made me get better at it. I think i'll make the predictable return to playing.
Just in case you all need a reminder:
May 30th is the Nor Cal Blazblue ranbat at SVGL.
...And here's the tournament results for the Fanime Aksys Games Blazblue Console Ranbat (Videos will be posted on their website accordingly):

2) Taokakaftw (TA)

So - yeah - a Hakumen placed 3rd in the tourney. Doesn't sound too bad eh?

Just wondering but is SVGL and SF State the only local places to play this? I went to SF yesterday only to find the Rack and que or whatever closed for maintanence ( damn it..>_< ). Ugh... this sucks. There is no where back in Boston to play this game either.

I can do 2 of taokaka's more complicated combos, but I also lack her normal game strats, so i still suck. hahahahaha.
Once I built the memory for the commands and timing, it was easier but I still can't do them consistently. :(
Keep on practicing and play against hard competition every day. :3
Somewhat Necro, but SVGL has recently gotten Continuum Shift for 3 credits a play.
In other news, Litchi buffing makes me very happy but somewhat down at the same time.
That is all (>'_')>

God and I was so close to going. Now the next time I'll have a chance is during Summer.
