Is it possible to sign-up and then come back later to do a warm-up/run-through?

Regarding moving the gathering, personally, I have another gathering that would take preference costume-change-wise at noon, so my preference would be against moving the gathering time forward. But again, that's just me.

Does anyone want to do a suit group for the gathering? (though I've got a gathering /right/ afterwards and am deciding which would be easiest for a quick change) If so, I am totally up for it.

Or maybe even just a suit group a random day around the convention~

Iwas shocked.

I had to go somewhere till 10 and from my experience, i thought it will take at least a day,
I got home at 11pm, and got on this topic excited.
Then sees it saying "Closed".

I literally just stared at the computer screen with my mouth open.
This is really not fair. the sign up even started early. Either way, i had no chance!

Next time, when you say 10pm, make it 10pm.
Thank you

Now i have to figure out when to go for at-con sign up...

A lot of us are in the same boat; I thought I'd definitely be fine at 10:11 the day of.

I'll be sitting in front of the karaoke room on Friday if you want to join me.

The Fairmont most definitely has a bag check. If you ask them to hold your bags at the concierge, they will tag the bags and take them to a back room, give you a slip of paper that identifies you as the bag's owner, and you are free to go off the rest of the day without worrying about it. It should be complimentary, but tipping is always nice.

On Monday, the lobbies of the hotels are always a mess of people trying to store their bags, as check-outs are either 11AM or noon, but if it's the day before, you really shouldn't have a problem.

You should be able to check in at 18, though you may want to call them and ask them to clarify. >.>;
dang... now im worried and gotta go call hilton.... no worries, i always get my way. I always win, so all i'm truely worried about is if they want to through a tidfit.

You shouldn't have a problem with the Hilton; I've booked and checked in for a hotel room a few months before I turned 18 at the Hilton a few years ago, and didn't have a problem then, and haven't since at the other hotels.

Very, very much second the "only having to splurge and eat out for one meal a day really saves your ass" sentiment. To add onto the "save money for food by bringing outside food" thing, most grocery stores sell cheap packs of instant noodles. I know this is most definitely not a healthy choice (rice is much better, but alas, not everyone is lucky enough to be blessed at Dave and Busters' games to get tickets or have a rice cooker that is younger than their mother is), but it is a very cheap one. Especially as said large packs are usually 12 cups for under $5. Flats of water are also an excellent investment. Bottled water around the convention area is one of those harder-to-find commodities, and in-convention is just insanely expensive. And staying hydrated is more important than anyone can stress, especially since it is usually rather warm Fanime weekend.

I fully second everyone else this guide mentions, but do want to add in, maybe plan to set aside some money to tip the cleaning service. Because over the weekend, especially if you have more people coming in and out of the room than the hotel officially allows, you will need new towels. Which means the cleaning staff will need to navigate around the costumes, luggage, dealer's room or artist's alley swag, napping people, etc strewn about the room to do so. It just means a little bit nicer service and that the staff doesn't shoot us death glares in the hallways. (or at least shoot fewer of them)

1. Is it a bad thing if you don't have anything that is anime on you (shirts, pants, hat, costume, and etc)? Not at all! There are plenty of people who wander around in plainclothes. You're at an anime convention; that's enough to show the rest of us there that you're interested.

2. If your budget is like only about $50-100 dollars, how do you balance arcade time and Swap meets? If that doesn't include food, make a list of very specific things you're looking for or certain things you want to do/play. If that budget does include food money, set aside some (realize that convention center food is pretty expensive, but it is entirely possible to get a good, full meal for $5-$7 within a 10 minute walk), and go from there.

3. Is it true that going alone is on a epic difficulty? Not at all! I have never been to Fanime alone before, but I have been to many other cons that I consider much less friendly than Fanime alone for my first time attending them, and as long as you are friendly, people are friendly right back. Lines and gatherings are great to find people to hang out with. Also, the convention layout is pretty straightforward, and there are maps all over the place. And the rovers are usually very knowledgeable about where things are, and most of the con goers will know at least where rooms will be. But as I said, the layout of the con is pretty straightforward, thanks to everything being pretty much in one building. (aka, if you're going outdoors to get somewhere that isn't food or a cosplay gathering (okay, the masquerade is across the street, but that's pretty identifiable by the long line of people), you're doing something wrong [or taking a shortcut, but that's a different matter])

4. If I don't go to the dealer's hall for this year, is that a bad thing? Nope! Last year, I'm fairly sure the only things I bought at the dealers room were prizes for a panel I was running. No one will judge you if you aren't carrying dealer's room swag around with you. If there is something that you're absolutely looking for, then a swing through the dealer's room is probably a good idea, but if you're looking to save money, then it's skippable. Though it's fun to go through and see what kind of merchandise various companies are churning out. :D

I'm going to touch up my Cool Lady costume for Tear, and try my hardest to get the Fonic Rod good for Fanime, so count me in!

Since it doesn't look like we've got many Millefiore yet, again, I'll probably bring out Shouichi again. :D Millefiore uniform most likely, though if enough people want to do a suit group, I am /totally/ up for that.

/doesn't have a suit fetish at all, oh no.

I'm the Chibitalia mentioned before by bisouspapillion, if you'd like to add a bit more info to that. I will also be doing the anime coloring, which is the green dress, rather than the manga coloring, which is brown. Oh details~

Bands I would like... I'm going to see Jam Project at Otakon... I saw Momoi at AX, that leaves...

Bump of Chicken, and Radwimps. Oh I wouldn't mind seeing Back-On either...
I'm amazed I actually agree with you on something, but I would love to see Bump of Chicken at Fanime. It would be amazing. (and might be enough to tip my friend to the side of not studying for finals to come to Fanime)

ELLEGARDEN would also be really awesome to see at Fanime, or LM.C.

I dunno. I wouldn't say this year was disappointing, but it definitely felt different than last year. A lot less hectic (since I wasn't driving back and forth between San Jose and Oakland every afternoon, for one), for one. But I think I had a lot more fun this year, since I actually got to stick around and not have to miss things, so actually got to meet new people and hang out with the friends I came down with.

Seconding the dealer's room though. It just seemed really off to me, and the lack of a cosworx booth made me sad. But the artist's alley this year rocked; I think I spent the majority of my money there (as it seems a lot of people did, lol). The masquerade went downhill from last year, though Ric Myers was an awesome MC. It's just that so many similar skits and having so many people come up and sing got really annoying. (especially when you're in press and can't just turn and talk to friends like you can if you're seated in the back).

Also, the Yuri room. I wasn't at con for it last year, but meant to bring my sister to it as her initiation into 1) anime cons larger than one-day cons and 2) 18+ rooms, as she turned 18 a couple months ago, but were disappointed when it wasn't yuri at all. (at least when we walked in, anyways)

All in all, though, I think I had a lot more fun this year, even though there were a few things that I would've loved to have seen, if they hadn't been at 6 AM or other assorted awkward times... The Karaoke Gong Show made up for a lot, though XDD

Rarely used the elevators at the Marriott...though I thought it was freaking stupid to see a guy take the elevator from the 2nd floor to the first one...

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! that IS stupid! omg this made me lol

You don't know if the person had a medical injury that required them to not use stairs so I wouldn't laugh =/.  Even if they looked perfectly fine I do know people who aren't allowed to use stairs via doctor's orders as they will aggravate existing medical problems like joint issues and the like.

However, if they were in the Marriott, there is still very little reason for them to need the elevator. There was an escalator not too far from the elevator lobby that was working 90% of the time (there was one time around 1PM on Sunday where the down escalator wasn't working, but the up one was) Taking the escalator would've meant less wait, and probably less crowding from the multitudes of people who went down to the first to take it back up to whatever floor they were going to.

Re stairs: I was on the 16th floor of the Marriott, and I'll admit, I took the elevator most of the time. However, there were times (like right after the masquerade) when it was crazy enough that I took the stairs up and down. As well as one trip down to my car with luggage on Monday. And by that time, my right foot was actively bleeding, I was limping slightly, and had been wearing heels pretty much the entire weekend. But for the most part, we didn't have too many long waits.

Hey everyone! I'd like to start off thanking everyone who came out to the panel; even though I was running back and forth and didn't get to catch the entire thing, what I was there for seemed wonderful, and I really hope everyone had fun, whether or not you actually were a contestant or not~

So, what did you like? What didn't you like? More tropes? Funnier tropes? Less random commentary? More rounds? Longer rounds? No AIDS being given to laptops? Better prizes?

Create That Anime is the original idea of Steven Savage; we're just running it while he runs it over in Canada at Anime North (he usually does it at AOD though, so if you're here for AOD, go see him and give him love~), and depending on where he ends up next year, we may run it again, so any comments would be super special awesome!

I've still got a bunch of stuff to finish up, swing by the store and pick up some snacks to stock the hotel room with so that I don't pull my usual not-eating-until-after-con routine (I'm usually running around so much I forget to eat...whoops), make sure my sister has everything ready to come down tomorrow, and then pick up my friend at around 4:30. Hopefully traffic down 680 won't be too bad (lol avoiding 580), so we should get there around 6 or so tonight (totally factoring in traffic; I've made the drive without traffic in 40 minutes last year. true, I was driving too fast, but shh >_>;;)

I know, I know, let's leave things until the last minute, but my sister and I are going to be there as Byakuran and Irie Shouichi from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! for Sunday ^^ Just in case anyone reads these final posts in the last day or so before con~

I still have to do a final check for four of my five costumes and make sure that I've got all the pieces and that they're all in good shape, then pack them. The last one....*runs around like a headless chicken* I've still got spray-painting to do, padding to add, and leg warmer things to make. As well as run around trying to find a wig, because a week and a half after I order the wig, I get told they don't have it in stock. Yippee. And I have to find a wig for my sister as well, and will probably need to cut and style that. All before 4 PM tomorrow. /o/;;

So yeah, I'm feeling the stress ^^ I've already scrapped pants and went with ones I've already got (my rotary cutter broke, leaving me with some /very/ jagged edges in terms of my fabric pieces for the pants), and.....had totally forgotten about a pin and ring I need to make until just this minute. WHOOPS.
