I hope many people are able to attend... Cuz I know I will.. ^_^
well, I mentioned it already on cosplay.com and I will do so here. I'm going ^_^
You bet your @$$ i'll be there :D Even more stuff for the ol' KyoCorp yearbook... awesome.
I will definitely be there. How could I miss something that is so close to home? :)
EEEF!!! My friend's mom said she'll take her, and if MY mom says no, she'll take me!
I NEED to come! I NEED more conventions! :D
*laughs* Yes... I need something to last me in-between Fanimes... Waiwai!
I would go to the Metreon's Anime Fest but I heard they suck o.O;. Plus.. I dunno.. *shrugs* I only go there for DDR anyway XP.
I'll be going ^_~
i wanna go.. :) to early to be 100% sure i'll make it.
Heh I noticed one of the flyers for this while sitting in the lobby on sunday before I left, Ill definitely be there.
Don't forget to drag Jenn with you, Foxwolfe. ;)
^_^ I'm glad so many people are planning on coming! Bring everyone you know!
Megumi
8 dolla? no way! im going. yesh yesh yesh yesh. this is going to be a barrel of monkeys.
yo, ill go. i can spare 8 bucks.
Quote from: "CloudStrife546"yo, ill go. i can spare 8 bucks.
*laughs* I spent more on a poster... I'm game.
I'd definately go, but it's in San Fran.... It's a bit out of the way and I'm not even going to consider driving there myself (I fear the streets in that city). Assuming I can make it, maybe I'll take the BART.
it will be great! unless anyone in here would be cosplaying, 2x the fun indeed!!!|
I WILL COSPLAY! I WILL COSPLAY! but its a surprise. so until then. peace out. 8)
I'm not sure what I'll be wearing yet. I could wear Sumomo again, but we'll see.. It was kind of a pain hehe. And if I can get or make a peter pan style shirt, then my zelda costume will be complete and i'll do that one.
Quote from: "Tsubasa"I'd definately go, but it's in San Fran.... It's a bit out of the way and I'm not even going to consider driving there myself (I fear the streets in that city). Assuming I can make it, maybe I'll take the BART.
I will try to make it, but driving stick in San Francisco is hard as hell. But I dont want to take Bart either. What to do my car or a train? :?
I think this event in San Francisco is going to be AWESOME! Gives those of us who live in Central or Southern Cali. a reason why to hang out at Japan Town instead of just for the Cherry Blossom fes.
Also, was really hoping to go to a event in SF and now the chance has come.
Definitely a lot of anime events popping up in the Bay Area but since this is a World of Anime event, it's definitely going to be AWESOME!
kndy
Tsubasa: if you go, maybe you can come over my house and drop off your car, and then I can give you a ride. I'm taking BART at the west oakland BART station into the City, so that works for me :D
Ryu:
Hm... sounds good. Now lets see if my schedule permits.
Tsubasa: Ok dude. let me know by then, ok? :D
MFA was definitely worth my $5!(I didn't see bebop. It was worth my $15 for the first year, it was more expensive then...and I only went to one day of it, and it was the day where not all the fun was. if that makes sense. ^^;) You should go this year, Aiko(or wen, as you are known here. ^^). GO WITH ME!! GO WITH ME!! :D
I totally forgot about MFA~! Yay, two more chances to cosplay before Fanime! Well, three if you include cosplay party at halloween. Cosplaying is so fun and I want more chances to do it. ^^
As for JTAF...I'll DEFINITELY be there! I've started my costume for it, too. I'm really sad that my Lum costume didn't work out at Fanime(I had wig problems. I plan on doing Lum sometime in the future, such as Halloween or something, but I'm undecided right now ^^)...But I'm starting new and doing an Acolyte from Ragnarok Online. I just need some fabric for the skirt, gold lining, a bit of fabric for the belt, tights, and a pattern. Yay!
I'm going.
Should we all meet and hang out as a group?
Faye:*glomps her for the brilliant idea* I'm down with that :D
^_^ We still need some volunteers if you are intrested. Please email
[email protected] Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Megumi
If you guys want, I'll make a sign that says "FANIMECON MESSAGE BOARD PEOPLE!" or something like that, so we can find eachother...
But it will have to be glittery. I love playing with my glitter pens :D
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh this is going to be fun i have something to look forward to now. :P
or i could wear a sign again that says..."ITS ME"
but im kinda tired of that.... :?
*glomps everyone*
Yes, Jessa_chan glitter is GOOD!! And I seriously doubt anyone can miss me--I met everyone at fanime. Well, not everyone...almost...but not quite. ^.^ hehehe!
I'll be cosplaying in my slutty school/catgirl outfit! w0ot!! Hahaha!
Should we all cruise the streets of Japantown together afterward too? Or go to a Sushi dinner!! Oh this will be so much friggin' fun!! Eeeee!!
*runs around giggling* Do you think Japan Town can handle us?
ill be there... 12min drive from home (south sf)..
anyhow, im interested in finding out mroe about the schedule.. when will the information be posted :?
Quote from: "Jessa_chan"*runs around giggling* Do you think Japan Town can handle us?
NO IT CAN'T!! NO ONE/PLACE CAN HANDLE ANY MEMBER OF THE INSANE FOUR!!! Mwahahahaha!! We should control the UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!

JTAF 003' in Japantown? $8? Oh HECK YEAH I will be there! Its a week before Cyberfest which rocks too. I liked Fanime, could give a rat's bum about AX...so I definately cant wait for this.
BTW, there is an anime con at the Sony Metreon? I seem to go to SF every other weekend and thats one of the places I go a lot too. I just know they have Square demo days, so I definately would love more info on this!
*thinks of uber kawaii outfit to wear*
Quote from: "Jessa_chan"If you guys want, I'll make a sign that says "FANIMECON MESSAGE BOARD PEOPLE!" or something like that, so we can find eachother...
Everyone still have their Fanime badges?? That would work.
If anyone could give me a lift from the South Bay, that would help.
ObPlug for the BayAreaAnime.com site: http//www.bayareaanime.com
Cedric.
aka. Washu! ^O^
well, I'm back from AX and I'm still going to that.
Jessa-chan: yeah, that wouldn't be such a bad idea to make a sign and all for the fanime board people. :D
Three more weeks until JTAF and it looks like things are getting bigger and better! What I think is so cool about the whole thing is the fact we get to hang out at Japan Town and also after hours there are a lot of restaurants and sushi shops to hang out!
kndy
Once AGAIN I am poor and rideless. If someone would be so kind as to give a ride to a bishi neko from Sacramento (yeah right) whos down on his luck that would be awesome. I'd really like to go.
*dresses in rags and falls asleep next to a raggedy cardboard sign that says "Will yaoi for yuri"*
...damn, can't go...but to everyone else going, enjoy...
Well can't give ya a ride SKN, sorry...
BUT! Suggestion to all boarders who are going. You can be like me and wear a "IT'S ME" sign on your shirt.
well, I will be going and going to spend the night over at my friend's house, so I won't have to commute back and forth from Hayward. ^__^ I hope to see the fanime board people there....we gotta represent yo.
SKN: why don't you take greyhound? It's $25 r/t from sacramento to Oakland...at least you can take that and get on BART :D
lol. so ironic that the transportation is actually more then the con entry fee itself. almost trippled. ^^
but thats me and my monty python, brittishly dry humor.
i think i just made a word. brittishly!
Brittishly: ADV. to act in a way in which you put musterd on everything. and put the word "govna" at the end of every sentence.
EX: Josh the pink panther has his brittishly unique sense of comedy.
Yeah, see, if I could do that, Ryudo, I wouldnt have a problem, now would I? =P Im poor remember?
And who needs signs? Why doesnt everyone just wear the board badge you got from Suspi? Thats what Im gonna do (if I get to go)
Yah, I'm poor to, I feel your pain SKN, damn my minimum wage job!
SAN FRANCISCO’S JAPAN TOWN TO HOST FIRST ANIME FAIRE
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 28, 2003) â€" San Francisco-based productions company, Project 760 Productions and the Japantown Merchants Association are pleased to announce the first Japan Town Anime Faire (JTAF) (www.jtaf.com).
Japan Town Anime Faire is a two-day Japanese animation convention held on September 13-14, 2003 at the historic Japan Town location in San Francisco, California. The event will be held at three locations in Japan Town: The Best Western Miyako Inn, the Radisson Miyako Hotel and the Peace Plaza at Japan Center.
Ray Nagar, JTAF chief organizer said, “There are major anime events in Southern California and the South Bay area but for years, anime fans have asked why the Japan Town area hasn’t had its own anime event. Through the help of the merchants in Japan Town, that idea has become a reality.â€
Japan Town Anime Faire’s diverse programming schedule includes Japanese animation screening rooms, a masquerade/cosplay contest, a dance (sponsored by Paramount's ParaCon), an Anime Faire swap meet, information tables, guest panels, video gaming room, contests and more! Panel programming consists of fan panels as well as panels hosted by our guests of honor.
Hotel reservations can be made by calling the Radisson Miyako Hotel direct reservations line (1-800-333-3333) or the Best Western Miyako Inn direct reservations line (1-800-780-7234).
A full weekend pass for the Japan Town Anime Faire is $12.00. A single day pass is $8.00. Public registration hours are 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and 9 AM to 1 PM on Sunday.

wow. all my questions where answered with that singal post
dude, you BRITISHLY rock!
you are now not a target for the mob
kdny, you beat me to it :P.
hey how come the Sunday part is only from 9AM to 1PM?
only a couple of hours?!?
Hey kndy,
Is J!-ENT going to be involved with the JTAF event? Just wondering if you were working on bringing any JPOP artists to this event?
(t)
Quote from: "takashi_honda"Hey kndy,

(t)
Hey Takashi,
No, J!-ENT will not be involved in terms of panels or bringing performances for JTAF. Pretty much my company and website's involvement is helping Ray and staff out with certain duties and promotion. In terms of another contemporary artist coming to an upcoming con since TMR's performance at Otakon a few weeks ago, look towards Texas for AnimeFest (www.animefest.org) who are bringing the group, move to their anime con.
As for top notch97's question, I think it's because the final day is on Sunday and to have registration go past 1 PM with the event winding down probably isn't a good idea but that's my opinion, I really don't know.
kndy
Yup yup I will definitely go. For $8 it's a must!! Are you guys attending on both days?
I'm attending both days :D
I'm pretty sure I'll be there.
e-e *sneaks in quietly*
i might be going saturday...
havent posted here in awhile @_@
I'm going, cosplaying as a blacksmith from Ragnarok Online :3
I will be most likely attending this event on Saturday. Is there a Fanime gathering planned on that day?
Quote from: "gmontem"I will be most likely attending this event on Saturday. Is there a Fanime gathering planned on that day?
we are still working on the details of that, George :D
Heeeeee~ Next week!!! =D
I'll be going with my friends. If anyone spots the short lil Asian girl with Ban sunglasses (they're purple) on, say hi!! (It'd also help to tell me who you are so I don't think you're a psycho. ^^;) I'm excited. Fanime is usually the only thing I have to look forward to each year but I guess there's something new to look forward to this year!
Can't wait!

I'll be cosplaying Domon and I'll be wearing my Fanimecon 2003 badge.. so it won't be hard to spot me lol
Just hope everyone's keeping up to date with the JTAF updates =D The masquerade is going to be on SUNDAY at noon in the Peace Plaza. More information on registration at the website X3

I actually saw you a few times at Fanime. Didn't say anything though. ^^;
Hehe...I think I saw almost everyone (on the board) at Fanime but I was distracted by a very cutie Jubei at it. ^_^;;;; Anywho, I might come if my friends are going. Hehe.....Oh...GokuMew2, go as Natsumi when she cosplay as Ban in one of the episode. ^____^

I don't have the Ban shirt done yet. I haven't started on my costumes at all. ^^;;
If anyone here is volunteering for this con then you'll get to see me in (regular clothes not cosplay). I will be spending most of my time in the volunteer room on the 4th floor of the Best Western trying to coordinate the volunteer department with some help of course 8)
see ya there
8) I'll be there. Only Saturday, however. Still unsure of the times I'll be there. Proably only half of the day, since I have soccer in the morning. I'll be Neo. 8) Hehe...BTW, have we designated a "meeting place" of some sort for us boarders?
I say we meet inside Kinokuniya...it'll be a lot easier that way, plus, everybody knows where it's at :D
How about Kinokuniya on Saturday at 1:00?
(That's when I'm gonna be there)
Hey that's fine by me. 1 p.m is ok :D
anybody else?
All this talk makes me wish I was going to anime faire.Damn this lacking of transportation!! >.<
I will definately be there both days. I can't say for how long on Saturday though. Look for me as Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho, and I'll have a friend going as Yusuke Urameshi. I'll also be bringing my Mousse (Ranma 1/2) and possibly my Zaku.
See you there!
well, I hope you do show up for the group meeting at 1 p.m dude :D

In front of the bookstore, George :p
Oh ok. You should have said that earlier. Remember the mall that contains the Kinokuniya Bookstore is the Kinokuniya Mall. :P
Congratulations to Ray and JTAF crew for reaching nearly 900 attendees in their first day of Japantown Anime Faire!
There were challenges but I'm happy to see you guys overcome them!
kndy
lol Just curious since i got there late...heh got there around 1 30 or 2 and hehe didnt feel like spending 8 bucks to go in anymore so just went around the mall with george :D and ty ~_^...and got manga (*_* mars 14 XD) and curry :P heh doubt anyone saw me but i was an asian girll that was sometimes holding a moogle ^^;; How was it? Layout wise..was there like a dealers hall thing? I only saw i think an entrance to a video room(?) cause i went to the mall through the miyako hotel.
Quoterll that was sometimes holding a moogle ^^;; How was it? Layout wise..was there like a dealers hall thing? I only saw i think an entrance to a video room(?) cause i went to the mall through the miyako hotel.
Layout wise, I know a few who weren't sure that there were events held in another hotel. A few people I ran into were looking for the video game section in the Radisson Miyako but I told them it was at the Best Western Miyako.
There was a swap meet but in terms of dealers hall, there is none. I believe the point with JTAF, to promote shopping in the Japantown area and working with the vendors throughout Japantown. From what I heard from vendors, they were extremely happy because it brought business to them. It's a cool event for me because it gives reason for me to travel to SF, go to Japantown and where else can I access a restaurant that serves okonomiyaki, get Japanese mags and CD's, get takoyaki and of course access to anime and sing karaoke late at night and to get crazy with friends and travel a few miles to visit Joe's Crab House, Hard Rock Cafe or Hooters. It's all good! :D
But for those who were wondering if another event in the Bay Area would be too much, I don't think so. With close to 900 people show up on Saturday and most of them were local, I think that's a good indication that this event was definitely needed in the SF area. So, I think this will help give an idea of what to plan for next year.
- kndy
Oooooh, I'm so saaaaaad...
Everyone must be in Japan Town!! I didn't have any way to get there. :'(
Someone has to tell me how it went!
Well, I'm here, and the con is currently going too.
I went yesterday, and that whole "gathering at Kinokuniya"....well, I'll just say it's not that organized as mall gatherings. I have my own tastes and stuff, so don't ask me about it.
Ahhh! Was it fun, Otakuya?
it was okay.. to me it was like any old visit to jtown. cept there were con folks there.
i didn't have a costume or anything, but i was the girl with the bun on the side of my head. i also had a hello kitty bag. [shrugs]
i liked having lunch at arang.. good times. that was the highlight of that day, not to mention going through the castro district..
the only song that was going through my mind was.. electric 6 - gay bar. damn,...it was still day light too. they sure know how to have a good time. kind of made me sad i missed the dance..
how was that by the way? the place looked real good.
I had fun..I saw some people from the fanime board that did go and I'm dead tired and with a hangover to boot :p
I don't know what the exact reg numbers are but lets just say it was a lot more then what many people had expected, including myself. There were a couple of "doom and gloom" predictions that were made by a couple of staffers and myself while we were sitting in the con ops room friday nite the day before the con. When we got an est. of the reg numbers we were all pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong. 8)
I wanna give out a thanx to Ray at project 760 who was the evil genius who cooked up this mad plan that many said could not and should not have been done but was proven wrong! Also Mike G for creating a sense of order amiss chaos. Also a whole bunch of other people deserve a thanx but I'm too lazy to type up a list.^_^
The exact reg number for JTAF are 1032 ppl.
Isn't it great!!!!!
yeah..I'm pleasantly surprised by the # of people that showed up. It was a success alright, but I want to know what stuff came up during the gripe session, of what has to be better done for next year's event :D I wasn't part of staff, but I would've loved to give my opinion or comments on the matter.
compared to Fanime standards I'd have to say the gripe session was pretty tame.
What was weird is that the staff gripe session was held on the last day of the con and not like 1 week later. So you'd think with all those ideas fresh in the minds of disgruntled staffers and no time to "cool off" you'd expect a no holds bar royal rumble with people getting thrown over the top rope.
But like i said it was pretty tame compared to Fanime. LMAO 8)
funny, i've heard numerous stories about ray n. from quite a variety of people....every year, he bitches and complains about how much he hates fanime and the staffers....yet, he shows up every year at fanime! what a fricken hypocrite.
Isnt that the guy who held that stupid panel about how much Fanime sucks?
So hes a serial jackass! And here I was, thinking it was just a one shot deal!
Hear that, Vice? We get to be harassed by, and subsequently berate, belittle, and otherwise degrade that fine specimen of a moron next year too!
Are you excited? ^.^ /sarcasem

Friendly neighborhood hentai nekoboy
That panel you are referring to skn, has nothing to do with Ray at all. That's a completely separate group of people who ran that panel. I have no idea who they were.
And yes, JTAF came about quite nicely. If you were there, I was running registration. I was the one wearing a hat with long brown hair and taking your money ;)
We do appreciate all of your feedback, so if there is anything you'd like to see improved for next year, please do let us know.
Thanks everyone for attending, it was great seeing you all, and we look forward to an even better next year :)

we can't ban this idiot. can we? and I know Ray and he is cool person to be with and hang out. Like I said before, he did this, he wanted to do this and he pulled it off.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, did anyone see and find a lost FanimeCon 2003 badge with my name on it? I lost it at the con....
Quote from: "Kimiko"That panel you are referring to skn, has nothing to do with Ray at all. That's a completely separate group of people who ran that panel. I have no idea who they were.
Horray! Now Zoidberg is the popular one!
Anyway, yeah, Im glad. I really hate that guy, and I know Im not the only one. He and his cronies were posting on here for a while after the con (you know them as PTSwhoever) and they were one of the main reasons I took my leave of absence for a while there. I didnt want to explode and get one (or both) of us banned from the boards permanently, so I took a breather. Havent seen them for a while though, and man am I glad! ^.^
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing, chaotic Fanime '04 - Your hentai neighborhood bisexual (go YaoiCon!) nekoperson.
I heard that there were a few pmx flyers at j-town (ha ha) I was busy Sat running the pannel room in the Radison Miyako to care. I haven't heard the final tally for attendees since I had to get back to Sacramento on Sunday so I missed the cool dance too. :(
Ray, Mike, Adrian, Megumi and the gang have alot of things to digest I'm sure. Overall, I would say that JTAF went pretty well for a first-time con (and I've seen a few of them)
your humble JTAF Live Programming Deputy Director
Quote from: "asscrack"funny, i've heard numerous stories about ray n. from quite a variety of people....every year, he bitches and complains about how much he hates fanime and the staffers....yet, he shows up every year at fanime! what a fricken hypocrite.
Well, I can vouch for Ray and many, many, many other people can as well that the guy is cool.
As for complaining, every person who goes to a con will complain about something. The only difference is that there are some jealous people out there who tend to take those complaints and over exaggerate and blow things out of proportion.
It's always the same 3 people who have a problem with him that in the past few years, they have to go against him and it was no surprise that even when JTAF was announced, they started bashing the event right away that the Bay Area doesn't need another event and other ridiculous theories.
People have wanted to see an anime/cosplay event in Japantown and he and the staff made it happen.

Quote from: "Mach5Motorsport"I heard that there were a few pmx flyers at j-town (ha ha) I was busy Sat running the pannel room in the Radison Miyako to care.
Wow you were there Brian? I didn't see you. Then again I was too busy trying to keep track of 21 volunteers spread across 2 hotels in Japan Town, not as "tiring" as running the info desk at Fanime though
So let's see here. The chairman of JTAF hates Fanime. The vice chair is a former Fanime staffer. And damn near most of the senior staff at JTAF are also current Fanime staff. There are JTAF staff who have issues with PMX but there were PMX flyers at JTAF. Sounds like one big happy dysfunctional family to me. LMAO.
btw we got food. yeah that's right the staff and volunteers at JTAF got fed. Thank you con ops for the cosco food runs! bottled water on a hot day == lifesaver
Whats PMX? What, does Blues finally have his own series now?
....
*crickets*
....
I mean OTHER than Viewtiful Joe!
*BRICK!* x.@
Ow....

It's always the same 3 people who have a problem with him that in the past few years, they have to go against him and it was no surprise that even when JTAF was announced, they started bashing the event right away that the Bay Area doesn't need another event and other ridiculous theories.
It's far
BEYOND just 3 people. Some are not even Fanime related people.

It's called the Cherry Blossum Festival. It's always sponsored by major companies such as Bandai, Viz, AD Vision, etc....and they've always had a cosplay parade.
PMX = Tatsucon

hm.. i don't understand why Bay Area doesn't need another event or con. The high number of ppl in JTAF shows that ppl need them. If the event is too much -> number of ppl who come will drop -> less popular con will die... simple isn't it?
or maybe people who bashing so much is afraid with competition???????
we need more events so we have excuses for gathering with friends or cosplaying everyday or partying everynight

Yes, you are correct. The other two are part of another con.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is not an all-anime/cosplay event but yes, it does have the cosplay parade which is sponsored by major companies and FYI, it's an event that Ray is involved with.
I'm all for more events and I can't wait for cities like Sacramento, more in the Central Cali. area and other areas to have events. These events are not going to hurt AX or Fanime, these events are just providing anime-related entertainment and enjoyment for their locals.
As for JTAF, the fact is people wanted an event in their local area and they proved that. And from someone not living in the Bay Area, I think an anime related event in San Francisco especially in Japantown is just awesome.

Cloud: Ouch. That hurts bad, man.
kndy: Yeah, I totally agree. Ive been pulling for a Sactown con for quite some time now, and have in recent years been trying to put one together myself. Its hard to get funding when youre broke though. Hopefully I'll make a little more headway in the next few years (or acquire a partner XD) Anyway, pay no attention to my ramblings.

A con in Sac-town huh? now that seems interesting. I can't imagine too many people from far away driving to Sac but hey who says a con has to attract people from far away? A local con can be successful too! I spoke to Ray and he mentioned there was a con in Fresno (yeah Fresno!) that was quite successful relatively speaking. When I say relatively successful I mean like how many people showed up at the door and paid to get in relative to your finacial expenses. Ultimately that's what matters most IMO. It's better to have a small con that is in excellent financial health rather then a bloated money losing mega con where the senior staffers are laundering money from the con. *delicate cough*
btw if you want to do a con in Sac-town you might as well do it quickly before someone else steps in. ohhh and having $10,000 in your pocket would be a big help too. If you don't have type of money I suggest you find some people who do and practice your purssuasive speaking skills
good luck SuperKawaiiNeko
lol yeah thats the basic idea. Ive talked around a bit. Ive got a few aquantinces who work for some local businesses (magazines and the like) who seem fairly interested. Nothing major though, and I havent spoken to anyone about it in a while. Ive been kinda sitting on my butt about it lately, having financial troubles of my own. But if theres anyone out there who wants to help out in some fashion, go ahead and PM me XD Itll prolly start small. A one day/partday thing. Like anijam. Gotta see what happens, right? ^.^

That's Aaron as Gattsu. He's the first A in BACA for the BACA Boys. ^_^ But Baron (the B) is the one who made the sword. And I just realized I didn't get any pics of Baron as Kyou. Poo. =\ I have some Fanime ones of him though. Baron makes all of the BACA Boys' weapons. Totally awesome, na? ^^

here's a totally kick ass pic from cosplay.com of that guy with the huge sword. notice how the wind catches the cape.

What did he make that out of? What did he do to it to make it look like that? Someone teach me how to do that stuff! ><
Hi guys,
Since JTAF is over and is not about Fanime, I'm going to move this thread over to the "General Anime Chat" forum. Glad you all had fun this year at both cons. :)

Try asking Baron yourself. ^^
