Title: Mystery science theater night 11/15/2008
Post by: edendreams on July 05, 2008, 04:39:13 PM
Hey guys!

It's almost here!!!

The date is November 15th at 6:30pm.
The Location will be My House in San Ramon.
ADDRESS: 9420 alcosta blvd
San Ramon, Ca 94583

*as a note there is a long stretch of road in front of the senior center (which is before my house) please try to park on the street there(i suggest not in the parking lot) as to be nice to my neighbors. I only live 4 houses down from the senior center so it's a short walk* belive me there are no houses directly on alcosta until you get up the hill and you see the senior center.*

I will set up 2 rooms to watch movies  (and hopefully a camera to record what we say) i imagine we will probably get to watch 2 movies in each room so we still need to pick what movies to provide.

Refreshments will be pot luck style I'll provide popcorn for sure XD.

there will be no drinking at my house however, it is my parents house and they don't drink at all. so... sorry for those wanting that kind of party.

anyway i hope you all can make it or at least a good bunch!

so far i have:
Kazuko
Ninj4
rude32
RyuHayabusa
Loktera
Kyley
and several maybe's

MST3K is one of my all time favorite TV shows!  Depending on when and were it is I will TRY to have the car running and gas money together to make it to this.

I have some recommendations for how to successfully pull off a thing like this. First, start with an actual episode of MST3k to get you in the mood. If you just go ahead with the bad movies, you may find people becoming disinterested or distracted far too easily.

Second, some movies are just bad but not good for MST3king. For example, "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies?!!" sounds like it would be hilarious, but in fact, a huge portion of the movie consists of these carnival-sideshow dance routines that are neither funny, nor related to the plot; they're just boring. To avoid stinkers, you should pick movies that at least one person has seen and knows is so-bad-it's-good.

Some movies I do recommend: Hawk the Slayer, and (from the looks of it) The Wicker Man (the new one with Nicholas Cage). I also have it on good authority that Pinata Survival Island is very entertainingly bad.

The film company Troma makes some really bad movies that could fit this category.

One of the best episodes (OK it was actually the theatrical release) of MST3K was done to a good movie.  This Island Earth.  The movie doesn't HAVE to be horrible, you just need to be able to goof on it for the experience to be fun.

That being said, may I humbly suggest Beowulf.  The resent CG release....cause that movie stunk like bad tuna and I had to leave the theatre half way thru because I was laughing so hard.

I recommend the following movies, which me and my in-town friends have already watched for the same purpose:

*Frankenfish ("BOOM! Headshot!")
*Curse of the Komodo ("It's hungry.")
*The Mothman Prophecies

BAD (or GOOD) MOVIE night.

and a cheap way to spend an evening. a few snacks and drinks and get in a good mood to be that over commentary crown while yelling at the screen.

I'm down.

Good times all around.

HAHA i was totally thinking of that before i saw your post I agree we should show either an episode or two first to get people's minds going.
My current plan is to get a list of movies together and then have a vote on the top five or so. (that way we have back ups)

wow i'm really excited by the responses ^-^ funny how a random thoughts work!

Sounds like a rad idea. I'd offer up my place but my apartment is tiny.

I vote:
Santa Clause Conquers the Martians. I bought it from the dollar bins in Target a couple years ago. Ask Kegan, that one was was awful/hilarious.

I'm not sure if any of your friends in Tracy are 21 yet, but my suggestion for your 21st would be a bar or club somewhere.

Besides, its WAY cheaper to drink and relax at home.

Tracy has no clubs, but I think it does have like 3 or 4 bars, and drinking at home isn't as fun, and you don't have much of a variety to choose from. I like being able to pick from at least a dozen different beers, vodka's and tequila's all in one night.

Ok so i haven't updated in a while I'm thinking we'll hold the first of these is september (maybe the end of september.)

Jerry was kind enough to offer up his house again so i think now we just need to plan the date and time.

I'm thinking september 27th at like 6pm? we'll start the first showing at 6:30 or 7:00pm that way we have some time to get settled and explain how it works. so Give me some imput guys XD

I like the date and time. What kind of movies are we thinking of viewing? Just cheesyness in general, or are we sticking to certain genres? I have a few cheesy horror movies such as "Killer Clowns From Outer Space" and a few others. I also have the "Police Academy" boxset if we're going for cheesy comedy.

sorry eden, but I have to veto the weekend of Sept 26th...

mostly because I'm going to Yaoi Con... which is that same weekend.  :P

and just to review the weekend of Sept 13th would be bad because thats the weekend we're going to Pirates/Ren Faire...

so maybe another weekend?

all my weekends in August are booked.

2 out of 4 weekends booked for Sept.

I swear, we really should have a Fanime Calendar of events. :P

Yah the original theme is that it was held around Halloween, (usually the weekend before)...

And technically its been moved 'up' since its a month before october, but oh well which directions to months go anyway?

anywhere they please i guess. but your not crazy.

if you check www.yaoicon.com   - it definately says Sept 26-28 i thought it was a typo too, but its not :P

I know once we hit october it'll get a bit more hecktic with midterms etc wo that sort of why i was aiming for sooner rather than going later. o.O;;; Just let me know what you all think.

ok SISTER IS GONE  :( she's officially moving to washington this week and that mactually means i can probably have the gathering at my house now! OMG You ALL GET TO KNOW WHERE I LIVE O.O (should i be scared of this?)

I need time to fix the place up but i figure well have this on november 15th probably starting about 6ish and it's open to anyone but... please let me know in advance if you are coming so i can plan for food and room. My house isn't as big as jerry's and there's only one bathroom.

there will not be any alcohol at this one due to rules of the house.

seating will consist of the couch and some chairs along with floor futons and lots of pillows. I apologize for anyone allergic to cats... we currently have 2 o.O I might even set it up for more than one movie so like one room will have one movie going and the living room will have another that way it's not everyone crammed into one room.

well how's that sound so far?

i still want to do this my origional planning had to be put on hold though
but IT'S BACK!

it's an extra 30 minutes from san jose but not bad of a drive. I drive it a lot and i do live quite close to the freeway so it's not hard to find me at all. also this will help with some tracy go-ers who normally can't make it to san jose.  i planned it in advance wo it would be easier for arrangements to be made.

I also just ordered my tv yesterday XD I'm EXCITED

I recently found out all of November is blackout time at work = no requests for days off or specific shifts. :( So I'm crossing my fingers, hoping I get to open or have the day off. If so I'll be there for sure. Let ya know asap.

This sounds like fun! I'll have to check my schedule.

One so-bad-but-oh-so-good movie is Braindead (Dead Alive - US title). I have never laughed harder at a horror movie. It's got zombies, zombie mothers, zombie babies, zombie intestines, lawn mowers, and a Kung Fu master Catholic priest. It was directed by Peter Jackson and he also helped write the screenplay.

The first one is a Japanese Horror/Comedy from 1977 called

House (Hausu) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076162/)

The second is a short film titled... And I kid you not...

Gayniggers From Outer Space (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274518/)

These are just some things that I downloaded while searching the internets.

I'd need a ride, and it also depends on my work schedule, as I'm temporarily working extra hours on Sunday.  :-\

And it is (collective sigh of relief) NOT porn. I skimmed through most of it (it's only about 27 minutes) and it really seems like the kind of movie that you will either love or hate.

No no it's not a burden at all ^-^ people have been over before i'm just making a note that space is limited the only other person who might sleep over is lok but he's on a couch anyway. and i just found out we have an air matress *yay* so in need be another bed
besides we hardly have anyone over so it's ncie when we get a group.

I live an extra 10 minutes from castro valley so it's not that far. literally it's all free way driving till you get to alcosta so i's not hard to get here

I'd like to request no gay nigga porn thing. I also read about it and it sounds awful. Not funny awful. Just plain old awful awful. lol.

I have finished downloading Gayniggers From Outer Space.

And it is (collective sigh of relief) NOT porn. I skimmed through most of it (it's only about 27 minutes) and it really seems like the kind of movie that you will either love or hate.

I'm still bringing it.
Lok, I can pretty much guarantee right now that no one there will want to watch it, regardless if it is porn or not.
Jesus are you going to show up >3<
Yeah seriously you tease :P

if need be i can roll out a futon and there's the couch in the living room but space is limited for sleeping over sadly i don't have a guest bedroom and mom sleeps in the family room due to her back and leg condition.  we used to have a futon couch... i wonder what happened to that o.O

but yeah if someone needs to spend the night i've got a few couches, a roll out futon and the floor of my room so yeah there is space.

Oh, dear. o.O

I certainly wouldn't want to burden you. D=

Didn't you say you lived in Castro Valley?

No no it's not a burden at all ^-^ people have been over before i'm just making a note that space is limited the only other person who might sleep over is lok but he's on a couch anyway. and i just found out we have an air matress *yay* so in need be another bed
besides we hardly have anyone over so it's ncie when we get a group.

I live an extra 10 minutes from castro valley so it's not that far. literally it's all free way driving till you get to alcosta so i's not hard to get here

Hrm, well, I' may or may not have to miss out on this. =____=;  Still depends if I have to work Sunday or not.  I'd rather not stay out too late or sleep over if I have to work on Sunday morning.

edendreams~ Thanks for opening your home to us. Eeeee, your pets are so cute and friendly. I now need a chinchilla.

Lok~ Volcano High (the version with voice talents such as Meathod Man and Snoop Dog) is now next up on our Netflix List. I blame you. ;)

It was nice seeing everyone. Sorry we got there late, traffic was hellish. Sorry we had to leave early, I had to get up at 6 for work this morning.

I was just excited that sop many people came to a winter gathering haha it was a lot of fun and thank you to everyone who did come. I do plan to have it again after winter  this was kind of a test to see what people had to say about it. I think it evded up leaning towards cult films more so than a mystery science theatre but hey I'd down with cult films as well ^-^

Ryan is more than welcome to learn from me haha  cooking if fun and delicious!!

I second the vote for a cheesy kids movie marathon. The Goofy Movie would of course be the first movie to start it off, because it's AWESOME.
