I just checked my account, and they do have them up now.  You'll see a large banner saying, "Please print this reminder so we can check you in faster".  Sooo, I'm not sure if the papers are required with that wording, but it would probably be best to bring it all the same =).

So I plan on getting weekend passes with my Girlfriend on Friday.  We're going to bring her 2 little sisters for one day only (Saturday, or Sunday).  Are one day passes only sold on that day, or can I get the weekend passes and 1 day passes all on Friday?  I dread the idea of standing in line twice!

Unfortunatly you can only buy single day badges the day of.
Actually you can buy full weekend badges at the convention for $60.  But you can only buy single day passes for the day of the purchase, so no getting a Saturday pass on Friday.

Oh, we're also trying to not do the @Ball teaching thing.  Please try to come to the lessons if you can, but we have been encouraged not to give on the spot lessons.
I'll definitely try to fit one in.  Hopefully I'll be able to go to both the ball, and a lesson or two =).

Thanks everyone for your help!

Also we have tried to add more dance lessons, and even have private dance lessons at night.  Is there a reason you can't make it to the lessons?
I'm not ruling out that I might be able to make it to a lesson. I was simply asking in case I'm not able to go. But at the moment, no, there's no reason I can't attend a lesson or two. I guess I was mainly trying to cover all the bases just in case I can't go if something comes up.

Okay, I was just misunderstanding your post.
Don't worry about it.  It could have easily been interpreted either way.

Does anyone know how easy it is to get a spot in the convention center parking, say, around two in the morning on Friday?  Just wonderin'
I've never tried parking there at that hour, but it shouldn't be bad. The center is pretty calm at those hours, and likely those who live in the area have already gone back home by then. I don't think you'll have much of a problem snagging a spot.

You can get away with like normal slow-dancing during dances like the waltz, as long as you stay towards the edges. Otherwise, most of the time if someone asks you to dance and you don't know it, then they'll be willing to teach you.

On the floor partner dancing is strongly encouraged.  Money has been paid to make sure the floor is suitable to move around on without sticking to or eating shoes.  Feel free to ask the people wearing armbands to dance if you're not comfortable.
Oh, I have a partner to dance with and all.  I was simply wondering if it was possible to do something like regular slow dancing instead of doing the fox trot or whatever.  Sorry, I wasn't quite clear about that.

Big Event Showcase / Ways of dancing at B&W Ball?
May 14, 2011, 08:05:15 PM
You'll have to forgive me if this is a stupid question, but despite this being my 5th Fanime I've never gone to the ball before. I was wondering, if you don't know the classic dances and likely can't make it to the con's lessons, is it okay to dancer however you like as long as it isn't raunchy and doesn't disturb others?  Again, sorry if it's a stupid question, but I've never gone before and want to make sure I'm following all the rules. Thanks so much in advance!

Registration / Re: Do you need an Adult?

My debit card has my name as well as a photo id; does this suffice the ID requirement? Especially considering that I used the card with my picture on it to pay for my registration.
Unfortunately it doesn't.  You need to have a government ID such as a driver's license or passport.  If you don't have either though and can't get one before the convention, email [email protected] and see what you might be able to do to work it out.

How long would it take me to get to the front? Please excuse my fail, this is my first time, and all this planning is stressful. xP

Last year my friend showed up at 8 am on Saturday to reg, so 7 am on Friday should (in theory) be all clear 'cause Saturday's a busier day, and she went an hour later than you plan to go. :)
Registration doesn't even start until 8, so you'd be waiting for an hour on the first floor of the center before the booths even open.  I doubt anyone's going to be getting in line that early Friday morning.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Fairmont info?
May 10, 2011, 09:51:16 PM
According to openwifispots.com, both the Hilton and Marriott have free wifi, but the Fairmont sadly does not.  On their website, the only thing about internet access I could see is a high-speed connection will cost you a whopping $13.95 per day.  So, you might want to scope out the lounge in either the Marriott or Hilton and see if you can piggyback on their connection instead of being robbed.

My friend was wondering if there was a price increase after Early Reg closes because she might not be able to have the money by the 15th to register, so she'll most likely go to the con itself to register.

Right now it's $65 and I was wondering if it increases after Early Reg ends. I'd assume that the price is still the same and that the only difference is that you'd have to wait longer in the center itself to register.
I don't remember exactly, but I believe the price does go up by about $5 if you buy at the con.  My advice would be to tell your friend to check up on the Fanime Facebook page and forums, and be on the look out for any information regarding at-con badge prices as they haven't announced them yet.  I'm sure they will soon, though, most likely after Early Registration ends.

What, are you worried Kaneda will show up and take all your deals?

Who's that? Whoever it is, nobody can beat my group and i when it comes to merchandise.
Lol you obviously haven't seen Akira then.  I highly suggest you do since it's an amazing movie.  Anyway, back to your question, the Dealer's Hall usually opens at 8 am.  At least, that's when they've opened it for the last 4+ years, and it has stayed open until 8 pm.

Woot!  Lol I just hope that now I won't have trouble sleeping due to people possibly having splash contests at 4 am.  But meh, who needs sleep anyway?   ;)

I'M HEARING THAT THE MARIOTT IS CHARGING A FULL NIGHT'S COST FOR EVERY NIGHT YOU'RE STAYING AS A DEPOSIT!  So if you have a room at $99 per night and are staying 3 nights, they're charging you $300 deposit. WHEN DID THIS START??
Okay, hold on. Have you tried calling the hotel to see if this is in fact the case?  I'm not trying to discredit you or anything, but it's always good to double check with them to make sure that you're on the same page numers wise.  If this is true, then I'm sure others who are staying at the Marriott would like to know since that's a pretty large chunk of change.

I remember the Hilton pool being super lame. The Marriott pool is much better.
Do you need to have a hotel room key to get in?  I know some hotels do that as an extra precaution so they don't have people abusing it.

Yeah, it's better than nothing, but I'm nearly six feet tall so I usually have to fold myself up to fit in a hotel tub XD

They're outdoors, both on the same patio-ish area.
Ah, I see.  This is my first year at the Hilton, so I'm not very familiar with the layout.  But in that case I hope the hot tub is in fact open so you can get some more convenient relief for your legs.  The room's tub is a decent last-ditch resort, but given your height, the hot tub would be a lot better.

Dumb question, does anyone know if this includes the hot tub as well? Like, is it the whole pool deck or just the pool itself? I'd call the hotel and ask but they don't have a toll-free number. :P

I was sort of relying on the hot tub being open to help with the edema and stiffness in my legs due to my miscellaneous obnoxious health problems...
I have no idea, but if the hot tub is in the the same room as the pool, then I would guess it will be closed as well.  My advice is to ask at check-in, and if it is in fact closed, draw a nice hot bath to relieve the stiffness in your legs.  It might not be as good as the hot tub, but it's something.

This is where I ended up https://www.cmrhousing.com/fani_3a/Reserve.aspx
Huh, okay.  Well if you booked through the link for Fanime Housing it was definitely offered as an option, but you probably overlooked it.  Happens to all of us sometimes.  Heh I know I was so excited about booking that initially I mixed up the rates for the Hilton and Marriott.  But we all have places to stay and that's what really matters, right?  Just a little unfortunate that now the pool's closed.

They do have the simple list https://www.cmrhousing.com/fani_3a/HotelList.aspx

is that not where you booked your room? I don't remember having to input my zip code except for billing information.
You know Kyra I have NO idea what I clicked hahahaha when I tried to book, I was REALLY tired. I was looking for either Hilton OR Fairmont.
Yeah if you had to input your zip code aside from giving them your billing information, you didn't book through Fanime Housing.  All you had to do was select your room choice, how many nights, tell them how many people would be in the room, give them your billing information, and then send the reservation through.  Though now I am very curious as to how you went about booking.  Do you remember when you booked it?  I don't think Housing went up until the end of January.  (I know it doesn't matter too much now.  I'm just curious is all.)
