Sorry, everyone--I won't be able to make it to Fanime this year after all.

How was the process of getting your prop peace-bonded?  Where Rover staff helpful in explaining the policies and assisting you?

2009 was my first con with a prop (a wooden sword).  It was peace-bonded into the sheath and not to the belt which meant I could still take it off, and it was secure but not tight enough to dig into the paint or anything.  The verbal agreement to not do stupid things was exchanged.  I did cut the tie on my last day, but I only posed with it around the fountain and I kept it in the sheath while walking around inside.

Are there any rules in the weapons policy that you find confusing or questionable?

For 2010 I will have a prop that can fall under the spear (while whole) or the flail (while collapsed) category.  I plan to make it out of wood, which is allowed for spears but not for flails.  There's no real way to peace-bond it into its spear form, so would I just have to keep it entire until I am outside of the convention center?

I'm making River's Objects in Space outfit!  The cream vest and red dress.  My sister is debating on which Inara dress she wants me to make, with a strong lean towards the peach dress.  If we can make it in cosplay, I will be in character for EVERYTHING!  If not, we'll still participate but it won't be as deliciously geek-tastic.

What day would this sort-of-shindig fall on?

I'll be there as Belle in her blue dress, if I can make it!  :D
#5
I might possibly be there as Rinoa.

Reposting:

I alternated between Ballroom attire Rinoa Heartilly (which I wore in the mornings/early afternoon and to the ballroom lessons), and Karla from Fire Emblem (basically a white kimono trimmed with purple, a blue obi and a sword).
#7
I was wearing Karla from Fire Emblem (this costume) for most of the con and also Ballroom Rinoa on Friday and Sunday.

Well, last time I went to Fanime I really only spent two days having fun due to circumstances, so that's not an issue with me.  And I'm pretty used to long rehearsals.

Characters needed: (All are in default attire.)
Squall
Quistis
Irvine
Selphie

I will be playing Rinoa.

Plot: Squall does five hundred pushups for a bet.

Notes:
-There is a lot of dialogue.  However, rehearsing the skit is pretty flexible since it has no singing or dancing.  As long as you memorize and record your lines, email them to me so I can put the audio together and send a finished copy to everyone, we can meet up the day before the Masque, run through it a couple times to iron things out, and it'll be good.  :D
-Actually, Squall has a couple more rehearsal points.  Whoever plays him will have to do twenty pushups onstage: the first twelve just need to be at an even pace, timed to Selphie's counting, but the next eight have to be much slower.  Also, Squall will have to freeze in place during the transitions like everyone else, and collapse convincingly.  But, this can also be done the day before the Masque, as long as you're fit enough to do all of the above.
-Any further questions can be posted in this thread.

---

Script:
[Everyone except Rinoa walks on-stage in a loose group.]

Selphie:  [as they move to center stage] All right, so it's ten thousand gil that Squall can't do five hundred pushups in a row.  Quistis?  Kick it off!
Quistis:  Right.  Squall?  [points to the ground]  DROP AND GIVE ME FIVE HUNDRED.
Squall:  [removes gloves and hands them to Irvine before starting]
Selphie:  One!  Two!  Three!  [She continues while Irvine speaks.]
Irvine:  You can't be serious!
Squall:  [on each rise]  I--am--ALWAYS--serious.
Irvine:  You're CRAZY!
Selphie:  Ten!  Eleven!  Twelve--

[Everyone freezes.]

[VOICEOVER (probably Squall)]  One hundred, sixty-three and a half pushups later...

[Everyone (bar Squall) changes positions rapidly during the voiceover and freeze again once in place.  After a moment, Squall resumes doing pushups at a much slower rate than before.]

Selphie:  ...One hundred, seventy-five and a half!  One hundred seventy-six!
Rinoa:  [enters from across the stage and kneels next to Squall]  Um... hi!
Squall:  ...Hi.
Rinoa:  Can I ask what you're doing?
Squall:  It's a bet.
Rinoa:  A bet?  *to everyone else*  So what's this bet got to do with you guys?
Quistis, Selphie: [hold up their money]
Rinoa:  Oh yeah...  [to Squall]  You look like you need a drink.
Squall:  I need a BIG one.
Rinoa:  [reaches into his pocket]
Squall:  What are you doing?
Rinoa:  I'll be back in a minute, okay?  [exits stage]
Selphie:  ...She took his money!
Quistis:  Cutest.  Thief.  Ever.

[VOICEOVER]  Five pushups later...

[Another transition.  Rinoa reenters with a large soda cup plus straw and puts it down so Squall can drink, then mops his brow and exits the stage again.]

Selphie:  Awwwww.  [somewhat faster]  One hundred eighty-one!  One hundred eighty-two--
Quistis:  [elbows Selphie] Gee, that girl SURE inspired him to go faster.
Selphie:  Three-hee... WHOA!  [laughs]
Irvine:  One hundred eighty-four--you guys SUCK!--one hundred eighty-five--STOP LAUGHING!

[Selphie doubles over and Quistis joins in.  Irvine crosses his arms.]

[VOICEOVER]  Two-hundred-and-forty-eight pushups later...

[PAUSE; Quistis exits.  Selphie kneels next to Squall with Irvine close behind.]

Selphie:  Okay, so Quistis just went for an ambulance.  You've won.
Irvine:  Squall, stop.  You can't do any more!
Squall:  I--will--do--the--rest.  Four hundred--thirty--three.
Irvine:  Here, man, I'll help you up...
Squall:  [shrugs Irvine off] Thirty-four.
Selphie:  Now we KNOW he's crazy.  Let's go find Quistis, and/or a LOONY BIN.  [She starts to exit.]
Squall:  Four hundred--thirty--
Irvine:  Don't just LEAVE him here.  Selphie!  Ugh--Squall, stay right...
Squall:  --five.
Irvine:  Yeah. [He goes after Selphie.]
Squall:  Four hundred thirty six.

[VOICEOVER]  Sixty-four pushups later...

Squall:  Four hundred... Ninety... nine... [Rinoa re-enters and watches.  Squall's hand slips, and though he attempts to recover his balance, he collapses into a heap on the floor.]
Rinoa:  [runs over to him]  Hey--are you all right?!  Where are your friends?
Squall:  Hospital... I need... just... one more...
Rinoa:  Well, I think you can stop now.  Hey--

[Everyone comes back onstage while Squall struggles away and resumes position, doing one more pushup without counting it before he collapses again.  Irvine hauls Squall up and offstage.]

Selphie:  Whoa.  Did he FINISH?
Rinoa:  ...Yeah.  He did!
Quistis:  Of course he did.  He's Squall Leonhart.

[lights fade out as the three girls exit.  END.]

Hi everyone, this is Karla!  Just thought I'd reply on this thread since my username's different than on Cosplay.com :D
#13
Added another picture to this post.  It may help.

Nutshell Version:  I really enjoyed myself this year, even despite the blisters I got from my new shoes.

Things I would like to see fixed are everything mentioned above (more room, no techno, etc), and also the lighting.  I don't really think it was appropriate for a formal dance--why was it so dark?  Why was there a disco ball?
#15
Totally joining up.  I've got my costume decided already :D.

Once more...

Refer to this post for information/pictures/etc about my missed spot check.

Okay, trying again.

jeffmoya:  I'm also bringing back default Rinoa, only with all the details on this time :D.

That is, if you had one.

I thought that as long as we had a Badge Number thread we might as well have this too--it would be more interesting.  Mine was Leradny, an anagram of Raedyn plus my last initial L.  It's pronounced exactly the way it sounds (not "Leh-randy") and I think I'm going to use it all the time now.

This is Karla from Fire Emblem.
