For those of you that don't know this about me, I write music. For those of you that DO know that about me, well... uh... I can write music... FOR you.
Need a theme going on in the background of your student film? Making a game and want something to flow in the midst of a fight or something? Do you like Eurobeat? Paper or Plastic? Why are carrots orange? Where's Waldo? Who can believe it's not butter?
(I can. It's Margarine, people. Freakin' Margarine.)If the answers to any of the first three questions are "yes", then you're in luck! I can create musical themes for any length of time needed (within reason... I won't compose rock operas for you, I do have to take care of other things in my life, y'know!), in just about any genre. Although a majority of what I write is Eurobeat or Eurobeat-flavored, I also write in
- Jazz
- Orchestral/Classical
- Alt-Rock
- Metal/Power Metal
- Christmas-flavored
- Abstract
- Any style you need in particular, granted I can understand it.
In terms of fees, talk to/ PM me and I can give you a quote. Be sure to check out my Music on Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/travisodyssey) and be sure to buy lots of songs! Yes, you TOO can
line the pockets of yet another capitalist swine support my music!!
UPDATE: I can also create general-purpose MIDI files instead of MP3's for your programming/gaming purposes. I would request a fee and that you wouldn't share the file with the internet.
"Graveyard" is interesting.
Two suggestions, though:
1. You need better samples. Seriously. Waaaaaay too MIDI-sounding at the moment. I know we can't all be "OMGGIGSAMPLEZ" but... there are some sites with free soundfonts out there, and you should invest some time in getting a couple. Also, try Synth1 (http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/) as a nice, free, easy, somewhat powerful software synthesizer for the electronic parts of your music. That is, of course, if the tools you're using support VSTi. (If you ever buy a composing software, make sure it supports VSTi. Unless it's Reason, which has enough high-quality preset samples and synths to make up for it.)
2. You can improve the intro by taking the important notes off the main, quantized beats. I see this a lot in amateur composers: they want to put a note on all four beats, or on consistently the same beats every measure. I had the same problem when I was composing. But when you listen to professional artists, they vary it up a lot more. The dramatic delays are important - sometimes you're expecting an instrument to play a note and it waits an extra half-beat to come in, or it plays two notes where you expected one. More importantly, the rhythms of the lead instruments don't repeat verbatim after only one or two measures. Sometimes electronic music is an exception, but the artists make up for it by putting either really dramatic variation in the drums, or constantly dropping and adding layers, or putting interesting filters on the lead instruments.
But you should definitely keep writing music.

Heheh. Yeah, I could probably stand to do that. I actually wrote Graveyard last year, and recorded it "as-is" at the time. I didn't even put in cymbal crashes ._.
Just put up a remix of an old Christmas remix I wrote last year... Frosty The Raver 2007. I took the old "distorted guitar" track, and recorded it in through a distortion pedal. As for the SOLO in which it begins, I've decided to make the first little bit a tad more... human. :3
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
Now, that's not a new song by any means-- this, too, is a re-recording of an older song I wrote last year. There WILL be new material soon, but given my lack of time to really do much new material (I cut things close by posting here to begin with...), I've gone the cheap way and just remixed old tunes. ^^;
I'm an aspiring writer/director. I'll have to keep you in mind. ;)

Jawesome! Actually, finals are almost done, so I should have some more music pieces up on my site soon! Granted, 2/3 of those pieces I plan to put up are Eurobeat, but if you want some samples of previous pieces I've written for myself or other clients, just PM me or email me.

Yup yup! If you wanna see some of my work it's at youtube.com/tur713. It's not everything I got but it's some of my more recent stuff.
I keep getting 404 ._.

New song: Lovers on a Snowy Night
Vocals are a bit shoddy, but I've not been in the best of shape, and chances are good I'd never be satisfied with my vocals anyway. Thus I just tossed this whole suck'a together in one day, tightened up a few notches and slapped 'er onto Myspace.
It's not all Hi-NRG Attack-esque like the rest of my previous work, but don't worry! Those'll be back soon. :3
And now I follow up with an update, not necessarily a new song but a re-tooling of a current! Go check out India in the Sunrise... "again"!
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
New Eurobeat song!
"Bravado" -- Take early TIME Eurobeat (Dark in the Night, for instance), add a dash of Dave Rodgers Ft. Kiko Loureiro... and drizzle with Barbequeue sauce~
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
"New" old song up for nostalgia's sake, check out Sweet Sleep from years past. :3
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
New "Quickmix" (meaning it's still got some work done... I consider it a sneak-peek of things yet to come, once vocals, keytar and SFX are added) of a new song, Vacation, is up! Think new-school Delta productions like Kimmy's "My Stars" or "My Oh My", with a dash of tropical steeldrums and clav. :3
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
EDIT: Okay, looks like I update faster than the speed of Myspace song processing... please give it some time and it'll be up all the same.
Ah, have I really not updated since the last update?
Well... it's up. Also, be sure to check out "Sweet Sleep", a nice break from my usual Eurobeat.
Mwahahahahaha... "Something Wicked", this way has come!!!
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
Inspired by SAIFAM, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and the letter "S". "Pierce the Heavens". :3
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
One more! This time it's got "Wolf" in the title. Um. Yeah.
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey and song "When the Wolves Sing QM".
Listening to Pierce the Heavens.
Your instruments still sound FREAKIN' MIDI. Come on, man, do better. Especially the bass and the drums - they're painful after a while. I'll give you a tip I got from a much better composer - you should have several different samples for each drum type, and switch between them (often using more than one at a time) to give your drums a more dynamic feel. Because, when a live artist plays the drums, they never make the exact same sound repeatedly.
Compositionally, you've improved, for sure. The first minute is a little rough - you should vary up the velocity of the notes so that they don't sound so mechanical. In addition to getting much better samples and the ability to put effects on them. High production values and sample texture are very important to electronic music. What software do you use? Depending on how much money you are willing/able to spend, you should consider buying (or, you know, "acquiring") FruityLoopsFL Studio (http://www.fruityloops.com/documents/features.html) ($99 - don't get the "Express" edition, because you NEED piano roll), Reason (http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/) ($499), or Cubase (http://www.steinberg.net/983_1.html) ($799).
Mm. I do have a few VST's lined up; Once I know how to get them to run instead of my usual MIDI tracks I could power out some better sounds. I do recognize that those sounds do limit me, and I'm doing the best I can to work around/with what I have and can afford.
I at LEAST have new Synth and Bass sounds for sure; drums may come soon.
Outside of my "limited" setup, I basically have 3 rack synthesizers being controlled from Cakewalk, recorded into Audacity. The synths are:
*Korg 05R/W: General MIDI sounds, mostly what I use for bass and synth.
*E-MU Audacity 2000: Trance/Techno sounds. Arpeggiators and drums.
*E-MU Proteus 3 (in a proteus 2 body): Earthy/Ethnic sounds.
Those all go through a Eurorack mixer, with an output into my laptop.
Now that I have VST's though, I should get a LOT more variety and quality. And I mean, a LOT.
I look forward to hearing it.
Wow, it's been forever since my last post.
At any rate, new song up. I tried some different sounds here and there, particularly VST on the synth riff.
The bass still sounds a bit MIDI, but I tried some different sounds for the "stabs", and almost forewent the usual chord-based soundworld... maybe not the best move, and I may implement that later, along with different sounds for the bass.

New song in tribute/parody to/of the SAIFAM means of making Eurobeat (the guys that did "Boom Boom Dollars"):

"Barbequeue" (yes, it's misspelled. No, I don't care.)

Different browser maybe? (Some browsers handle plugins better than others...)
I use dial up...so I doubt any browser will work. :-\
But when I am at the studio, I'll try to check out your site. Since we have better internets.
New song~!
I tried to return to the sort of melodic style I used to have before I wrote Eurobeat, but kept some of my newer stylisms and added some guitars. =P Vocals will come this weekend for most of the songs, most likely this one included.
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
"Cherry Blossoms" (Yeah, I know, corny theme, but quite frankly it fits the lyrics coming with it)
A couple new choons on my profile, cheggem out.
www.myspace.com/travisodyssey
"I'm Gonna Get You" has vocals
and "Roots in Jazz" is a remake of an old jazz tune I wrote before I did Eurobeat.
Still alive, folks. And still makin' music (http://www.myspace.com/travisodyssey).
Have you looked at getting some VSTs from http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=kontakt3 (http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=kontakt3)?
Native Insturments has some very good files. (I use VDL 2.5 but that's more of a niche market)
Prices are decent to.
I have, and I do use them in recent productions.
By the way, my newest stuff is ON SALE ON iTUNES at the following address:
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=298598014&s=143441
New choon. You know the drill.
Oh wow wow WOW it's been a long time since I've posted here. I am, in fact, still alive and well, and making Eurobeat much more frequently. They're still on the same page (www.myspace.com/travisodyssey), but I think you'll notice an improvement in the new bunch. Please give a listen and let me know. :)
Ow, that's nice. then maybe you could help with one thing. I am also an music composer on professional level.
I've been making music since I were a little kid. But I'm never been a synthersizer expert. "I'm just good with melodies so to say".
I have a big problem finding a vst that has a preset that can recreate the exact brass lead sound that is being used in more than 90% of all SEB songs ever created. Could you tell me if there is a way?

UPDATE! I'm on an album!
Right now it's currently on Amazon.com under this link (http://bit.ly/6hsQGN), and the entire album is fantastic! I wrote/composed and sang on two songs, Nitro and I'm Gonna Get You, and the rest are either Magic Hammer's own creations or remixes (mostly original works). If you like Eurobeat, Metal, or tearing things apart using only your teeth, you will LOVE this album.
And, to answer you, Ghost Tree... it's hard to say, given that all the labels actually use VERY slight variations off the same sound principle (though Go Go's Music uses something more hit-based, SAIFAM doesn't always use synth brass, and Hi-NRG Attack has used non-synth instruments like trumpets and accordions). The answer I've got from
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
all resounds: Layers. Pick a sound that comes close, use that. Then do the same line with another sound that's pretty close. Then another sound. Then another, until you've got enough layers and it sounds nice. Change up the volumes of each sound to your taste.
Alternatively, if you're using a Mac-based setup (Logic Studio and/or Garageband), I have a blog on which I actually discuss how to get Eurobeat arrangements running in no time. Check it out: http://eurobeat-blog.com

Congrats on this. *clap clap.* I probably should have checked this a few weeks ago. XD
I was lurking and came across this and gave it a listen. Try Sidechaining. Doesn't sound like its doing it properly if you are. The tracks definitely need to be Mastered better. I have personally never been a fan of Cakewalk, their sound is almost that of FL-Studio. You have to tweak everything insanely just to get it to sound properly.. I strongly suggest Cubase, sound is really smooth even prior to throwing down some EQ. for Trancey synths for this Genre. I strongly suggest grabbing stuff from Re:Fx its a bit pricey. But worth it, I bought a copy of Vanguard quite awhile again. Still use it to this day. http://refx.com/?lang=en&page=home/latest As of late I have found Reason very fun for engineering synth sounds. =)

Duly noted. I have no idea what sidechaining is so perhaps I need to do it after all.
Which songs are you referring to, by the way? I've recently changed my setup to Logic Pro 8 and most of its contained VSTs. As for Mastering... I'm sort of learning as I go. P:

Sidechain Compression or ''Ducking'' is the effect of Using the signals to respond to eachother, So lets say you have your Kick as the signal to your Compressed Bassline. everytime the kick withdraws the bassline will raise in volume giving it kinda a push or breathing effect you can apply this to anything, Pads, Percussion so on so on, makes them sound ALOT better. Let me give you a Tut, so you can understand it real quick without me having to get all technical =) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aZVV9-fxgI - here you are watch this. Sidechaining will make your track sound more fuller and it will give you more room to work with your sounds, it IS standard in any production method. So take time and read up on this. You will need to understand it fully.
