General Convention Discussion / Re: Carpooling
May 13, 2014, 07:37:00 PM
I'll go first.  Sorry, I seem to have used up all my funny in the post above. (cue extremely bad attempt at a scottish accent "I'm giving her all she's got, captain.")

About Me:
I'm a 27 year old male.  This is my second fanime, and I'm really looking forward to it.  Unfortunately, the group I went with last year dropped out, and I'm looking for someone to help pay for gas.

Location:
I'm in Oroville CA.  So, I'm fine to pick up anyone in Butte County, or between here and San Jose.

Date:
I plan on going to Day 0. So.

Ammount of Space:
I've got a Montero Sport, and the group I planned to go with flaked out, so I've got 4 seats available.  I've also got plenty of room for luggage.  I even have a top carrier I can bring if we need it.

Other:
Sorry.  No smoking in my car.

General Convention Discussion / Carpooling
May 13, 2014, 07:23:32 PM
I searched for a carpooling thread, matching drivers with riders.  Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't find one.  So now here it is.  I you have a car and are looking for people to share the cost of gas, or if you are carless, and need a ride, post on here.  What you need:

About You:
I, for one, am not about to ride with anyone named Slasher McBloodknife.

Location:
What city you are in.  Because it doesn't do you much good to pair up with a driver from LA if you are from Yreka.  :D

Date:
Because people have schedules, and there own life. Unreasonable of them, I suppose, but there it is.   ::)

For Drivers Ammount of Space:
I don't know about you, but I don't want to be the sixth person stuffed in a Volkswagon Beetle.

Other:
Special issues.  Maybe you just have to eat Limburger cheese and sit in the suicide seat.

I hope I will be able to get in this year.  Last year, I came to all but one of the Straight sessions about 30-45 minutes early, and each time every guy position had been filled long before.  One time the guys said they had been there 4 hours, that 2x the total number of guys they had spots for had been there within an hour, and that if I didn't come that early I didn't have a chance, or deserve one.  It was kind of disappointing.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Complaints for housing

Really, the only solution seems to be if the hotels expanded.  Of course that would make it even worse for the year while their are remodeling.

Yeah.  It's just like registration.  More and more people are attending, and so the lines get longer and longer, and the staff can't grow fast enough to keep up.  Also the more people they have, the more space it takes, and the more we have to wait.

Housing registration was very difficult, and I ended up not being able to get a room.  Your situation with your special requirements makes it really hard.  Still, we do know that this is definitely better than no Fanime.  I'm very grateful to be able to go, even though I had to look for someone who already had a room to take me in as a roommate. In life, I can laugh, or I can cry, and crying isn't any fun.  So I try hard to see the rediculous aspect of any situation.

Registration / Re: Question on Pick up for Badges
February 10, 2014, 08:23:58 PM
Yep.  I went and checked.  Just click to Revise your Registration, and it has a place where you can change whether you pick up at Fanime or Clockwork Alchemy.

Need a Room

Introduction:
Hi, you can call me either Sivartius or Travis.  I am a 27 year old male.  This will be my second Fanime.  I tend to be either very quiet and reading all the time, or very energetic when I'm excited.  I generally go to bed early and get up by eight or so, and I don't party.  I love to read and write, and I want to be a professional author.  I love meeting new people, and learning new things.

Hotel Information:
I would prefer to stay at a hotel within walking distance of the convention center.  I plan to be their Thursday through Monday.  I have a car, but I would prefer not to deal with parking every day.

Requirements:
I don't need much space.  I do have a couple cosplays I  plan to do, but I probably will only have one suitcase, with perhaps a bag or backpack.  Last year I roomed with a mixed group of ages and genders, and it won't be a problem.  I can sleep on the floor if need be, but it would be nice if I could have a card key, since I will probably be back earlier, and up earlier.  I do have a problem with staying up late.  I usually try to be in bed by ten, and although I may stay up later, I really would prefer to stay in a room without any loud, late-night parties.  I don't care if you come back late, or if you come back and talk, but please no midnight parties with loud music.

Contact:
I can be reached by email at [email protected]  My facebook is https://www.facebook.com/travis.rodgers.92 but I'm not on there very much.  Or of course, you could send me a PM.

Miscellaneous:
I plan to bring food, and I don't have any problem sharing.  Mostly it will be things like fruit, veggies, and granola bars.  Like I said, I have a car, and I don't mind using it, especially to pick people up, although I hope I don't have to use it too much, because I'm not super fond of traffic and fighting for parking spots.  I'm ok with paying in advance.

This will be my second Fanime as well.  I would be delighted to join you.  I'm also a bit of a homebody, at least when I'm not 'acting'.  I spent a lot of last year reading, at least when there weren't any panels.  I'm going to be cosplaying either Hayate (Hayate the Combat Butler), America (Hetalia), or Han Jee-Han (The Gamer).  I haven't decided which to do which days.

How do you make something float above your head.  I'm going to cosplay Han Jee-Han from The Gamer webcomic, and he has his name, and "level" floating above his head.  So far, the best answer I've been able to come up with is to print it off on a transparency, and hold it up with one of those clear plastic holders for cards they stick in with flowers.  Does anyone have any suggestions, I'm pretty new at this.  Thank you.

Actually, the best would be Fred Gallagher from MegaTokyo.

General Convention Discussion / Day 0: Worth It?
January 28, 2014, 07:20:42 PM
This will be my second time coming to Fanime, and my second con.  Last time I wanted to come to day 0, but several other members of the group I was a part of couldn't make it, so we didn't get there till Friday afternoon.  This year it looks like I will be going solo, (although I am hoping to find some people to share my car with, and hopefully some roommates.) I am about a 3.5-4 hour drive north, and I was wondering if it would be worth it to come down for Day 0.  I'm still very inexperienced.

Perceived Potential Cons:
Have to pay for an additional day at the hotel
Possibly harder to find people to carpool with
Possibly harder to find roomates

Possible Pros:
Possibly shorter lines
Possibly less traffic
Day 0 swap meet
Other events

I could be missing other items on both sides.  So what do you think?  Do/would you go to Day 0, and why/why not?

Anyone from Hayate no Gotoku, (anime or manga,) would be great, of course.  I would really like to see the author of the online Manwa "The Gamer".  His work is amazing, and definately professional quality.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Cosplay Donation Idea
January 15, 2014, 11:27:48 AM
That sounds like an awesome idea.  I work at a surplus store, and I'm always seeing things that we can't sell for love or money that would be great for cosplay, just not in my size, (and for some, well, I'm not ready for crossplay.)  On the other hand, there are things that I would like to cosplay, but I either can't find or can't afford one or more pieces. I could bring several dark blue sailor tops, if someone needed navy blue sailor-fuku. Just for an example.

To the fellow at the East Coast Swing lesson Saturday night (all I can remember appearance wise is that you had a large backpack and short hair) thank you so much for staying and dancing with me during the "decompression" time! (And for teaching me all the moves I didn't know!) That was a bunch of fun!

That might have been me. I can't remember if I wore my backpack on Saturday or not. Was it a big Olive Green one with leather straps? I really enjoyed the lessons, the Decompression, and the Black and White Ball. I wish I would have stayed later at the Decompression, but I'm not a late night person, and I was getting really tired. I really enjoy swing, although I'm more used to a faster "Jitter-Bug" style. I remember there was one girl I danced with on Saturday who didn't know all the same moves as me, but was brave enough to try. She picked up on what I was leading really quickly, and I had a great time.

Oh hey! Yes, I'm pretty sure the backpack was green or tan. I had a steampunk-ish outfit on, he walked back to the Hilton with another dude and I. The fellow I danced with knew a triple-step swing and taught me it (I only knew the simpler kind) as well as that cross-body lead for Cha Cha. Still sound like you?

That sounds like me, except that I didn't stay at the Hilton, but at the one that was across the road from one of the hotels attached to the convention center.

I live and work in Oroville. Nice to meet you. I agree it would be even more fun to watch anime if there was someone to watch with. And (especially since I'm pretty new,) it's always nice hearing about the series that others are into that I've never encountered.

I would love to have Miyu Matsuki as a guest. My dream guests would be Kenjiro Hata and/or Kōsuke Fujishima, but I don't know if they even do appearances, especially in the US.
