Whatever happened to those days?

Inflation.
Hell, greed too, I'm thinking. I've had dealers (that I've known for a few years, not saying any names) tell me personally that if I saw anything they had that I wanted, wait until he's back in the store or order it off the website. Reason being, many of the dealers mark up prices by between 2% - 10% for Fanime.
Greed definitely. There's one dealer (whom I won't name) that I've purchased from multiple times. They'll usually cut me a slight deal if I buy more than one item. Well, last year I went in.... Either Friday or Saturday night, saw they had four ufo catchers out of a set I'd been looking for for a LONG time. They had two out of the three I really wanted, the fifth from the set being the one they were missing. I asked if they had the missing one, and was told no, so I went ahead and purchased the other two at a slight discount.

Well, I go in the next morning to see the one I had inquired about hanging on their display. It could be that they didn't know they had it, but I REALLY have my doubts. I think they just didn't want to give me a good deal on it. -_-;

I would say that there is a good variety.  Sometimes it depends on the year.  Otherwise, take your time to browse through the goods.  It is likely that more than one dealer is selling that "Must have item."  Ask around for the best price although they really hate it when you try to haggle them (or some do at least).
Agreed on the fact that it's likely many of the booths will have that "must have item", but I find that the dealers are more willing to cut you a deal if you're purchasing more than one item.

If the price isn't good, don't buy it. I don't even try and lower the price on an item that's outrageous. I'll generally just ask mid-way through looking at a few things, "Hey, will you cut me a deal if I buy item A and B?" And usually find that they'll make me some sort of deal, even if it's only a few dollars off.

o_O The thing I noticed right away was the fact that the DDR is choose your own difficulty, yet GH is set to HARD. Shouldn't you require a level of difficulty for DDR as well? Or take off the GH one.

And no, I'm not entering, nor a hardcore gamer; but I'd heard of every game on that list except for Columns.

Registration / Question about Single Day Passes
April 25, 2008, 09:11:35 PM
Hi everyone.

So it turns out that one of my friends is thinking about returning to Fanime this year, although for one day only since he doesn't have a hotel room/isn't as in to it any more.

My question is this:
If he were to buy a day pass for... oh.... Saturday, when would it expire? Would it be invalid the moment it turns midnight? When registration opens the following morning?

D: I was at a loss for an answer when I was asked this.

Thanks for taking the time to help answer!

Your dad can help, of course, no problems. Please just tell the judges how much he helped, etc.

We aren't completely and utterly anal about this; we understand many costumes are collaborative projects. Our rules are merely in place to prohibit those who purchased costumes (like full costumes) off of eBay or other costume web sites from participating. As long as you are making this costume mostly yourself or even putting it together from found items that are being modified, we are satisfied that you put in an honest effort.

We still haven't decided how we are going to handle walk-ons yet, but we will have a staging area backstage for you to store the head and as you have a special costume (please note in "special needs") we can try to get you on as early as possible.

thanks~~
Perfect, :D Now I can register without a fear of registering only to be disqualified! XD Thanks sooooooo much for the prompt response!

I'll definitely note that the costume gets hot in the special needs section. Heck, if it's decently cool in the back area it might not be a problem. Not sure yet as I'm not finished though.

Thanks again!

I think you'll MORE than fill those 25 seats.

I'm 95% interested in this (the other 5% is that I might oversleep! XD ), and I'm SURE many people will show up who don't come on these boards.

Thanks for the swift response! :D

Two more questions though.

I'm 19 and living at home right now, so I'm liable to get a bit of help on the costume from my father with the making of the head. How much help would be enough to disqualify me from the contest? (Like... can't touch the costume at all? Can help with a tiny bit of the finishing touches? Can only sit to the side and act as a sort of safety coach? XD )

Oh, and the other thing is that it would probably be a walk-on, unfortunately. x_x I seem to recall reading somewhere that you were going to put all of them in a group ( I want to say I read that it was towards the end?), so would it still be a problem if I kept off the head until 5-15 minutes before I went on?

Sorry for all the questions, but I figure if I'm going to enter, I'll do it right, and do it by the rules.

Thanks again for your quick response, and sorry for my belated one.

To whom it may concern:

Hello! I've attended Fanime for a few years now, but have never entered the Cosplay contest (Der Cosplay, Cosplay Spectacular, whatever you wish to call it.) in the past. So I have a few questions since I'm potentially interested in it this year.

1) How bad is it if I were to sign up, and then need to back out? D: I'm working on the cosplay, and am a little bit worried about getting it done in time and to my own expectations, but I also know/have a feeling I'd need to basically register now if I wanted to get a spot. Would it make things hard on the staff if I backed out a week or so before the Con?

2) If I DO finish it and managed to be part of the Cosplay Spectacular, I noticed you said you needed to be in full costume at ____ time. The cosplay I'm planning will wind up being very hot inside. Would it still be considered "full costume" if I were to... oh.... take the head off? (I know, that sounds really weird. It's gonna be a mascot costume.)

3) Also, it's from a video game, but I want to make sure I could enter it before I DID enter it. Who would I need to e-mail to ensure that it's fair game to enter? (Don't wanna announce it yet.)

Thanks for the time, and sorry for all the questions!

If you try for this, a good spot might be right in front of the center, by the fountains. There's a good amount of room there.

yup, it was just bad luck xeluu. try going at 2am...it's pretty empty and the people who are there are roughly 50~70% tired or knocked out asleep hahaha. Just me, my 2 cans of red bull, a bottle of starbucks frappuccino and the DDR extreme.  ..I hope the card reader is on the correct cabinet this year. Last year the card reader was on the supernova cabinet.... i wonder why...?? /sob /tears T_T  *snip*

Yeah... my issue is the fact that if I want to play a game, I shouldn't have to go in at 2AM. I would assume, and I'd gladly be wrong on this, that if there WERE tournaments, they'd be during relatively peak hours. Most people wouldn't want to do a tournament at 2AM.

But like I said, perhaps I'm wrong.

Really?  I never had anybody to play with in Tekken.  People would challenge me once, get scared and leave.  Only my Tekken friends would play me more than once. :(
D: I'm sorry. Maybe people were just watching in a semicircle around you? I dunno. Whenever I went in there were always large groups around all of the working machines.

I dunno. Last year whenever I went into the game room all of the machines were surrounded by multiple people. Perhaps I just had bad luck on when I went.

I'm not staff, but I do have something to say about Arcade Tournaments....

Whenever I've hung out in the gaming room, the lines for the machines have always been too long for me, basically, I don't want to have to stand around for 5-10 minutes (Probably longer for DDR) to play a game. If you added in Tourneys on TOP of that, yeah.... No way people like me would ever stand a chance to play the games. I DO understand why it would be fun the have the tourney, but I'm not sure it's really a feasible idea without getting people upset.

But remember, that's just MY take on it.

There are never too many days for pokemon. I don't think it has to be a specific day, you should come when ever you want to as such a thing!
I'm not sure you quite understand the idea of the standard gathering for cosplay. >_>

It's generally a set date, time, and location, so people can show up and chat, but from what I've seen it's mostly to take group photos, and to let the photographers show up to see people cosplaying as their favorite characters.

Since they're doing more than one cosplay, they were asking which day it would be, so they would know which day to wear the costume.

Video Programming / Re: Old school?
April 03, 2008, 06:51:49 PM
I'd definitely be interested if you guys did an "old school" room. Last year I don't think I wound up spending long in the video rooms at all due to just a general disinterest.

Something like this could be really fun, especially if it was well advertised. :D
