Quote from: "Rette"This guy just randomly walked up to me and my friend about 3 times a day (almost everyday) and asked for a hug.

Was he wearing, like, a light blue sweater or something on some of those days? 'Cause if it was, he did that to me too. =/ It was kinda gross on Monday, though, 'cause he didn't look like he changed or anything... XP

Yeah, he was wearing a teal sweater. I don't mind being asked for a hug, but after I said no 3 times, it got a little annoying.  My friends and I had to avoid him for the rest of the con.
He got me Sunday and Monday, too.  Monday he hugged me three times in a row. O_o

Weirdest thing that happened to me at Fanime this year?  ...A really hot girl asked me to dance.  Which is weird, because I'm a girl.  An ugly girl.  What the hell. XDDDD  Plus we had to dance around that guy dressed as a light-up Gundam. XDDDD  It was surreal.

I believe you can find a list with links here:

I am in absolute love with the Princess Tutu video, too.  I need to find that song!

No kidding I'm sure that would be quite a pisser.  >.<   Though often I don't agree with dani's quick turn to violence though in that case id suggest a quick punch or kick to the sensitive bits would be in order.  (Id say kick to the nuts but sometimes its girls hugging girls.)
Yes, random violence is not really the way I'd want to go!  Though I probably should have said something instead of standing there in shock. >_<  This is the only year I've ever dealt with fanboy/fangirl attention, and I've been going to Fanime since 1998.

Quote from: "darkstar"One point to Lawyer Girl:

I'm sure you didn't have one of these signs, but I saw quite a number of "HUG ME!" signs from the ladies.

Given the stereotypical lack of social grace of an otaku, some of them probably took it as open season.
Really?  Well, then, I apologize.  I didn't see any of those signs from girls.  If you've got a sign then I guess you want to be hugged, but I didn't, and it was a little disconcerting to be hugged/kissed by strangers out of the blue!  :P

If you remember, let me know please!  I love that song. :D

Since Fanime has been held at this location, I have always stayed at the Marriott.  This year was noticeably better than last year for me.  Last year I requested extra towels several times (all of us, fortunately, shower daily), and none were ever provided.  This year, I did the same, and towels were promptly provided whenever I asked.  We had a great room on the end of the hallway (less noise) and room service was prompt as well for my roommate, who ordered it.

The only problem I did have was trying to get my car a couple of times--even though I waited in the lobby near the door, when they brought my car up they failed to notify me, so I ended up waiting for nothing because my car was already brought up and parked in the far corner of the valet parking space!  It wasn't at particularly busy times, too...  :?

Anyway, this year went quite well as far as hotel accommodations go!

Ideas and Suggestions / Badges falling >_<
May 31, 2006, 01:20:49 PM
I would love lanyards for next year, especially for pre-reg folks.  I was wearing dresses most of the time at the con, and it was tough finding a place to clip my badges. :P

My boyfriend and I drove up from Fresno.  A friend of ours came all the way from L.A. too!  I felt so sorry that he had such a long drive back after the con. :/

I remember reading somewhere in the program (or on the site) that people are not to sell things in the hallways at Fanime.    Whether the proceeds go to charity or not, the girls you're talking about violated that rule.  If they wanted to give to charity, they could have dropped non-perishable food off in the Second Harvest food bins.

Staff may seem harsh at times, but they're working on very little sleep and dealing with some bad behavior on the part of a few attendees.  Heck, I was only a volunteer, but by the end of the con I was so sleep-deprived, exhausted, and short-tempered that I could hardly recognize myself.

So, while conceptually I feel for the bread-sellers, they shouldn't be treated any differently than anyone else.  The rules are there for a reason, you know?  If con food is too expensive for you, then walk down the street for more affordable fare like I and many others did.

Yes!  I found Tandoori Oven through that map also.  I loved it, and will definitely eat there again next year.

Panels and Workshops / Otaku Manners panel?
May 31, 2006, 09:38:10 AM
Wouldn't it be cool if someone could host a panel for the more socially inept of us that featured points of etiquette?

For example:

- showering/hygiene
- not harassing con-goers for glomps, hugs, or anything else
- holding doors for people (especially people in bulky costumes or people carrying things)
- waiting politely in line for elevators instead of waltzing in and rushing past the people who've been waiting a long time
- yelling/running in hotel hallways late at night when people are trying to sleep

And so on.  I probably sound like an old lady. :)

Cons:

* Please extend registration hours, at least for people who pre-registered!  One thing I did not like was the fact that registration closed at 8 p.m. on Friday.  I work full-time and had a three-hour drive to the con, and I got there at 8:15 p.m., right after registration closed.  Even though I had my pre-reg receipt, I couldn't get a badge that night and had no way to attend any events that required badges until registration opened the next morning.  (I ended up signing up as a volunteer so I could get a badge...but still, I would rather have gotten my member badge on Friday night.)

* You know about the con schedules. ^_~

* The dealer's room needed more variety when it came to anime merchandise, but I did love the Asian clothing retailers and

* I heartily second the call for convention T-shirts in women's sizes.  I had to buy a child's size shirt and it is still quite ill-fitting.  Also...twenty bucks is a little steep for the con shirts, considering their quality.  I bet you would sell more of them at $15 and would sell out at $10.

* The rap on Stage Zero.  Loved Stage Zero, but hated the rapping.

(the following gripes aren't Fanime's fault, but still:)

* Random gentlemen.  Please stop asking for hugs and trying to kiss me in the hallways if I DO NOT KNOW YOU.

* Mean people who yell rude things at karaoke singers, masquerade participants, Brian Doan, and fashion show participants.  You're not funny.

Pros:

* The people.  I was the "sign girl" at the end of the masquerade line, pointing out where the end of the line was (anybody have pictures of that, by the way?).  Most people were really nice to me and followed instructions to not crowd, stay in single file, etc.  So thanks guys, you were great!

* The program.  Very nice.  A big improvement on previous years.

* The map of places to eat.  A godsend!  Thank you.

* The masquerade.  I'm not understanding the hate toward walk-ons, I think you'll find that the people who do walk-ons have some of the most intricate and well-done costumes, and it's a pleasure to see them.

* MusicFest.  I adored it this year.  Bring Miami back, as well as GoofyStyle!

* Artist Alley and the gaming section each having huge rooms.  Awesome.

Overall, the con rocked.  Thanks to everyone who participated in running it, it must have been a huge endeavor and we all had a great time!  :)

...Was pretty funny!  Anyone else attend the panel? :D
