Hotel Name: Marriot

Would You Book Next Year:  Yes

Pros: Conveniently attached to the convention center, high quality room, helpful staff.

Cons:  Broken elevators on the last day.  Expect crowding every day.

Special Notes to Share:  On the last day, some stuck up harpy on the elevator said it was full when it wasn't, and wouldn't move to let people on, resulting me having to walk down the stairs from the 22nd floor after having waited 20 minutes.

To those that were involved in the selection process for the speed dating:  What was the age of the oldest person you selected?

Selection Process?

Well, I presume they weren't drawing names from a hat, and had some method of evaluating the applications.  I'm wondering if perhaps people were excluded for being "too old."  I notice my question hasn't been addressed yet.

We did not "evaluate" the applications on any individual basis. As reiterated throughout the thread, we processed attendee's applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. Whoever sign up first for the specific time slots were confirmed attendees for the Speed Dating events and we specifically emailed them their date/time slot information.

No one was excluded in any way based on their individual information. All attendees however had to be 18+ years old with proper government, picture ID at the event. We had attendees from all ages from 18+ and even people who were 30+.
For the attendees who participated, they are in no way obligated to answer your question about the age of their matches, f.y.i. It's their choice to state on the forums publicly. But to answer your question about age exclusions, No.
That is what I was looking for, thanks.

Gaming / 3DS StreetPass Totals from Fanime Con
June 01, 2012, 02:03:43 PM
At times I was getting more StreetPass hits than I could keep up with!  Here's my breakdown for what I got at the con:

27558 steps taken

All puzzles completed!

362 UNIQUE Miis tagged (real Miis, not the Mario Kart SpotPass variety that do nothing.  I kick those bums out!)

19 different states (California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Texas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Massachusets, Maryland)

5 different countries (United States, Japan, Ireland, Brazil, Portugal)

I was really shocked to see people coming from other states so far away, until I started getting them from other countries.  I didn't realize Fanime Con was so famous!

Anyone else get some interesting data?  Any other countries?

I'd be down for that.  I've actually never smoked Hookah before but have wanted to try it.  Unfortunately I can't get any of my friends up here to go with me and I'd feel like a dork going in by myself lol.

Hmm, let's see here... how to remove a stuck finger from one's nose.  Step 1...

Gaming / Re: What MMORPG are you playing?
May 09, 2012, 05:35:50 PM
I've been playing a little known mmorpg called Dark Ages for the last 12 years.  Old school 16 bit style 2d graphics. From Kru Interactive, which split off from Nexon I think back in '04 or '05?  Anyhow, go check it out.  www.darkages.com  they also have an ancient Korea themed mmorpg called Nexus: Kingdom of the Winds.  www.nexustk.com

Haha, Igaguri Chiba of Sendai Kamotsu?  This should be interesting, those guys were nuts!  Okay, now I'm excited.

Quote from: cutiebunny on May 03, 2012, 07:11:22 AMI'd love to see a week of guest updates, with each one just as fantastic as the next.

Can you imagine how ridiculously amazing it would be if press decided to release a new guest announcement each day for week or two?
Yowza.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves ...
I would like them to annouce
any guest at this point! : (

I second this.  I'm trying to get some friends to go to Fanime Con with me, and the hold up in them committing to it is not knowing what guests (especially music guest) is going to be there.

An odd request perhaps, but does anyone have a picture of the table where people put their promotional fliers for other related products/events/games/whatever?  I'm trying to convince someone this would be a good idea to advertise something of his.

Let's avoid the "cluster" that was last here's missing schedule, and consider something that 10+ anime con's across the country have done:  Use this mobile app created by http://guidebook.com

The schedule, maps, exhibits, general info, everything a person would need could all be available.  Someone get on this, for the love of kami-sama.

Sounds like a great idea for a panel.  I'm typically a hardliner for "if Nintendo says so, thats how it is" but it will be interesting to see if their official timeline has left some holes or created more questions.  Looking forward to this! :)

Hotel Name: Fairmont
Would You Book Next Year: Yes, if Hilton and Mariott are full
Pros: Really nice quality room, clean, not as crowded elevator situation as hilton and mariott
Cons: A bit of a walk from the con, staff at desk seemed kind of smug.
Special Notes to Share: My main priority is convenience, and while the Fairmont rooms are nicer than the Hilton and Mariott, I really would have taken a lesser room to be attached to the convention center.  That being said, if I do have to stay somewhere with a walk, I'd take the Fairmont over any of the other non-attached hotels.  I've stayed at them all over the years.

Aldious!  This all-girl metal band is incredible.  I know people who would come to Fanime Con specifically for this band.

Don't know much about them?  Well, check them out!

I put my feedback in the other Maid Cafe topic, oops :X
#179
This was my first year attending the Fanimaid Cafe, and while the food item was expensive, it was pretty good.  Some Key-Lime thing... I can't remember what it was called.

But I enjoyed the experience.  Our maid was delightful (sadly, I forget her name), and she chatted with us and played Connect 4 for a good 20 minutes or so, and we got a group picture.  Didn't rush us at all, as some people have been saying.  It was fun and a nice peaceful break from the chaos.
