That asian guy who was cosplaying as Ky from GGX is pretty good freezestyler.

He freestyled? I missed that. Anyone have a video? XD

So far, judging by the number of people replying to the thread, there are two people interested in the main events, one person for cosplay. I'm going to be waiting until I find enough people interested enough to sign up for both events, and then we could go to actual planning for the tourney -- unless those interested need to know what day the tourney takes place on.

We also need to figure out what event(s) we should be doing, for both normal and cosplay variants, so we can create rules ahead of time for those interested but want to know more details.

Oh, and Chibblz, a cheering squad would be wonderful, but don't be so loud that one can't hear the music or get distracted...XD

My advice:
Cheer before and after the song. And it's all cool.

Oy Chibz, why don't you cosplay as one of the Negima cheerleaders? Then that solves everything!

In all seriousness, is there a mode that someone can only play low level songs? Like a "Trickster" tournament? Or perhaps "Best staged cosplay skit" atop the pad?

Looks like I'll be dancing as Kenshin again. If it's on Extreme, I'm definitely gonna choose Freckles as one of my songs.

I'll probably join this tournament next year. I'm currently an 8 footer so 10.5 months should be more than enough time to reach 10 feet. Oh yeah, and that Ky cosplayer is friggin' sweet with the freestyle.

Please see the updated rules. (http://www.fanime.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3504&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=26)

Quote from: "Old Rules"See, the tricky part is that you only have enough time for the tournament...I want to accomodate all skill levels/gameplay modes within the time allotted. However, there isn't enough time to do the complete package, but I think I can pull this off.

Also, I'm a newbie with tournament planning and execution, so...forgive me for any hiccups you might find in the text. Also, feel free to give me any suggestions for addition or modification to the following italicized text.

This will be an event spread over two days; I'm thinking Friday and The Day Der Cosplay Isn't Held, or, more likely, Saturday and Sunday. The first day will cover the Standard (non-cosplay) Tournament, divided up into two group; Light (Beginner + Light + Standard difficulties) and Heavy (Heavy/Challenge difficulties). EDIT MODE STEPS ARE NOT ALLOWED!

Entrants through the bracket are judged on Dance Points; the equations of which will be posted up later. Basically, whoever has more DP = win. Also, AFAIK, there are different DP totals for each song, thus giving incentive to those who can pass harder songs.

Freestyle will be judged by DP (33%) and coolness of freestyle (66%).

Finals for the Light group will be on a Nonstop course of their choosing, or if they prefer, we'll randomize it for them with a 20-sided die (I believe DDR Extreme doesn't have Random Select for courses). Similarly, Heavy group finalists will end up doing a Challenge course of their choosing, or, if the judges decide they're That Good, they may be inclined to set them on the Legend Road, or something; it's not likely, though.

This will be a Singles-Only Perfect Attack, due to time limitations.

On the other hand, both Singles and Doubles are allowed for Freestyle, which will have its own group; experience doesn't matter. Just freestyle to the song of your choice, on the mode of your choice.

Signups are restricted to eight registrants per group, due to time restrictions. (With this, each group will take about an hour to complete.)

Cosplay Tournament Day will consist of the same events as the Standard Tournament, only that cosplay is a must for those who register. Handicaps for cosplay (because some may be more complex than others) will earn bonus DP/freestyle points; in some cases, using a cosplay prop in a freestyle routine will earn you extra -- up to 10% more DP than the average song.

In short:

  • The tournaments will take place over two days.
  • The tournaments are divided into three groups: Standard (PA covering Beginner, Light, and Standard difficulties), Heavy (PA covering Heavy and Oni difficulties), and Freestyle (any difficulty just so long as you make it look good).
  • The Cosplay Tournaments will follow the same routine.
  • Perfect Attack will be judged by Dance Points (DP). Freestyle will be judged by DP (33%) and coolness of freestyle (66%).
  • Handicaps for the Cosplay Tourneys (because some cosplays are more complex than others) will be in place, earning cosplayers extra DP in certain cases -- up to 10%.
Please comment...are these rules sufficient, or will I have to write them again to conform with DDR tournament standards or something? ^^;[/size]

Probably be either the DDR pad or Shinsengumi when I play DDR.

I really like cheerleaders in anime. It just reminds me the time when I cheered wit them back then and makes me wanna join the cheer.

Real cheerleaders or anime ones?

edit I know this may sound cruel, but I'm thinking of locking all Beginner and Light players out of the tournament... make it just Standard/Heavy.

edit OR make tournaments for Light, Standard, and Heavy, locking out Beginner. With this, each of the tournaments will come out to ~55 minutes, making this four hours per day. What do you guys think?

The Anime cheerleaders just makes me want to cheer with them just like when I used to cheered wit the real cheerleaders.

All I can think of is try to pick a certain song and difficult to qualify to the next round.  And pick like the top 20 or somthing if you want to sum it up.
It's my own opinion.

Oh, wow.. You've got this all planned out. Two thumbnails up for you. *laugh* And I read them all, and I think you deserve a cookie or two.

I feel a need to start playing DDR again for some reason, though... But the last time I played, I jumped and landed my foot on the metal bed frame... Haha. If I don't get any better by Fanime, I'll stick to cheering with Oni's pompoms.. Then again... If I manage to get any better, I'd probably go for the cosplay one. *evil laugher, even though she knows she isn't going to get any better at DDR than she already isn't because she sucks really bad, considering she almost killed herself last time with the bed frame because she's a loser like that and she'sactingreallyhyperandwishesshewouldplayonstandard* o.o;

I don't really DDR, but my friend does and she's rather good, not only that, but last Fanime, she did it in about foot and a half high platform shoes in a maid dress. It was killer! I couldn't stop laughing when she beat the guy, and then this old creepy asian dude kept following her around telling her how great she was.

I don't think Legend Road on the final is a good idea.

That's why Legend Road's a maybe; ITG2 is currently pushing players to star Pandemonium and Vertex2 Expert that anything on DDR - and I'll repeat it again, anything on DDR -- will be nothing. Giving them Random may not even present them with a challenge -- last time I did that, I got Graduation/Remember You/Super Star EX/think ya better D. It's not even worth anything.

I might have to do some more research on EX AC nonstop courses before I start finalizing it all, though. Maybe we'll set them on Trick?

Dont even think ITG is more popular than DDR! They tried way too hard to make songs hard for your feet cannot handle *75% bar rapes that game*! Pandemonium and Euphoria are overdone expert steps!

spiritsnare- on cosplay freestyle, does it matter if it is on a certain mode? like, if i only want to play on basic or trick, are points taken off? or is it based just on the performance of your dance or whatever and how well you do on the song, whatever mode it happens to be?

long- foot and a half? XD wow.. i never knew i was that good at DDR and that my shoes were THAT tall! XD (by the way, the guy i was playing with kicked my butt badly. ^.~)

It's freestyle, not PA - we don't penalize you for playing easier difficulties. In fact, on some songs, we encourage it.

Right now, I'm considering giving away a copy of DDR Extreme 2 to the winners, because that mix is pure love.

Quote from: "OniCourseMusha"I don't think Legend Road on the final is a good idea.

U know that there are people are afraid or don't play Oni Courses. And plus HOW MANY PEOPLE EVEN LAST MAX300 ON ONI??

Here's a snippet of an AIM conversation I had last night - name Bob'd for privacy:

[Bob]: hey
[Bob]: I hear you be talkin to [my friend].
SpiritsnareAlpha: And who might this be? :3
[Bob]: [Bob], I attempted to run a tourney at fanime last year.
SpiritsnareAlpha: Ah. :3 So, what's up?
[Bob]: Nommuch, homework and stuff. I'd like to help anyway I can. I frequent golflands, and can find out things for you about the machines.
[Bob]: But, I don't want to run it.
[Bob]: Cuz I want to enter. Preferebly ITG. Since DDR is old and boring. I play legend road doubles like once every 3 weeks.

Now, this gives me a dilemma. Either I try and petition for an ITG rig to please the uberly-expert-Breaking-Point-slash-Pure-Hell crowd, or I suggest that they stay away from the tourney, because it's going to do two things:

What do you guys think? Currently, I'm towards providing a purely DDR experience, as that's what's most familiar to most people. However, if most people require it, who knows -- either we get an ITG cab or we play at the RedOctane booth. XD

It's sorta like what you do to select Marathon Mode on DMX2.

edit we have a logo now. isn't it spiffy?

Back on topic: bumped.

People that are thinking of entering in the freestyle competitions, you may want to take a look at this video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4019387322338093003&q=ddr) for ideas on what to and what not to do.

Seeing this makes me want to have the freestylers sign a contract that says we're not liable for any damage incurred during their performance. :D

Quote from: "YoureMyHiro"I used to think there were mad skills in Keyboardmania players untill I played pink rose passed with a high score just by bashing all the keys together at the same time to the beat of the song.
There are "mad skills" in Keyboardmania players, but only KBM players that actually play it correctly.

Quote from: "Spiritsnare"To bump and further prove a point:

  • Upset the balance of tourney players by doing the hardest crap imaginable -- flawlessly
    and slash or
  • prevent others from winning the tourney
    and slash or
  • bore them.
What do you guys think? Currently, I'm towards providing a purely DDR experience, as that's what's most familiar to most people. However, if most people require it, who knows -- either we get an ITG cab or we play at the RedOctane booth. XD

Run it the way you want to, if someone thinks that they can just win because they play _ everyday, let them. ;)

If they get beat... :D

Also, please note that this tournament is not final yet.

I used to play everyday. Now I only get to play it every week and I don't even compare to few of my friends or other crazy Nor Cal players.

I only see how far can I get when competing.

I'm gonna miss Captain Jack. I love his songs.

Let's have a Captain Jack Memorial thingy at the tourney!

We won't necessarily have a memorial, but I'm thinking more of a dedication, at the beginning of the tournament -- "This one's for you, Captain."

Update

Currently, if we do get the tournaments set up, the only one guaranteed is Perfect Attack (16 opponents, one song each). Freestyle's up in the air, and cosplay events are very unlikely to happen.

This is due to the fact that whenever we run a tournament, Golfland takes a hit on their profits, as these are their machines. Cosplay DDR has never been tried before. So, if we can prove to the higher ups that this can and will -- once again, will -- be successful, it can and will be done. That, or we merge the events together (PA includes cosplay stuff, for example), but it doesn't feel as special that way.

We are also experiencing quite a number of changes to the rules to eliminate all loopholes, and those will be posted up shortly once I finish talking this over with Milty-san.

edit If this does end up being official, I think we've all decided that it'll be dedicated to Captain Jack. ;)

Oh, and just in case: No, we're not dedicated to CJ in the way that we're doing an all-CJ-songs tourney. It's just dedicated to Captain Jack in the way that authors have dedications to whoever they feel like in their works.

Just in case. :3 All songs are playable, selectable, whatever.

Hey, i got an idea. I was wondering if we could have on-line sign-ups, instead of a first come first serve at the Con 'cause that could get messy....
Title: Dance Dance Fanime! 2006 DDR Tourney
Post by: Spiritsnare on October 28, 2005, 07:44:20 PM
I was thinking about that.

However, how many people from the con actually come over here? Frequently, that is? I prefer first-come-at-con signup because it's open to anyone and everyone as opposed to hey-let's-limit-this-a-bit-to-the-people-who-really-really-care.

That 'tag team' routine may or may not be allowed in the actual Freestyle tourney. We'll see...

Once again, cosplay PA/Freestyle is very unlikely to make it, as it has failed at a past con. We'd literally get one person joining in the end -- what's the fun in that?

I option for 7th mix (Max 2) If there's any possible way we can get ahold of it. Assuming people are just that sick of Extreme.

On the contrary, it still does have a variety of songs that Extreme lacks (Lucyfer's Sky High, for example, as opposed to DJ Miko's Sky High -- or many E-Rotic songs.)

Funny that you say

because ITG was created in response to Konami not releasing any new arcade releases in past years. However, this is a DDR tournament, and that's what we're going to stick to. The machine will most likely be an Extreme; MAX2 is very hard to come across these days, as they've been replaced by Extremes or ITG/2s.

I went over the songlist again and I see your point. I think the songs I was thinking of were the ones exclusive to/debuting in 4th Plus.

I really don't have anything against ITG. I think the stepcharts are great. the songs are just too.... Eh. I don't know what the word I'm looking for is.

It's that the songs from DDR were really crazy and the more you listened to them to more you liked them.

ITG songs are just... songs. It's like they don't have any heart. They're harder to freestyle because of it in my opinion.

But, I'm going to stop myself. I don't want to go on about this nor do I want to derail this topic.

I think your referring to Richie's rig, not to put down anyone's work but I dont think that's a suitable substitute for a machine concerning tournament play unless you were referring to it generally in which I myself am looking forward to checking it out.

You forgot someone who I'm working with behind the scenes, but let's not go there.

Don't worry -- there are going to be people who will sign up at the con itself. Not everyone who goes to the con goes to the forums.

Oh, and it's pretty likely this is going to happen. However, it's also pretty likely that it's going to be PA only.

If you want to petition for the cosplay events, don't ask me, PM MPLe (http://www.fanime.com/bb/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=15). He's who I'm working with, so if you nudge him quite a bit, he might reconsider. But one or two messages saying "PLEASE LET US DO ______" aren't going to work; we need ample proof that the event you request would be feasible.

We're worried about lack of attendance for cosplay events.

Freestyle is feasible; we still do have a chance of doing it this year. However, the main show's probably going to be Perfect Attack.

Unless you guys want to switch out PA for Freestyle?

PA is always good, if there is time for freestyle there should be that too. Cosplay, I don't think will happen. But it would be awesome to get a number of people just to "be" at the event in costume. If we go along with cosplay events, then we will be able to recognize most if not all of the Bemani characters across all series -- mostly DDR, IIDX, and Pop'n, with a slight exception for the GFdm mascots (Mr. B.Bone cosplay isn't really too hard to pull off either.)

Announcement, to Clarify: Until we finalize our plans, don't expect Cosplay PA and Freestyle to be played.

If this gets through, PA will be the first tournament. We are currently not sure if we will be able to support a Freestyle tournament; however, I will be working with Milty to make this happen.

Also note that any and all tournaments are subject to refusal from Golfland. If they say we can't do it, we unfortunately can't do it. This forces us to move on to Plan B: use Richie's Stepmania rig. :3

If there are any questions, feel free to PM me.

Three tokens, yuck. I'm to used to two tokens for three songs on really nicely tuned pads @ Southland Mall, DDREX. The mall itself is floundering a bit though because they don't really have many stores of my choice... (Okay okay they're clothing stores like AnF, Hollister, etc. XD) and it doesn't hurt I get free games =)

Other than that there's an DDREX machine about 15 minutes walking distance from my house at the local bowling alley which is right near the local middle school. It's practically untouched by pros. The bad thing is the guys there are too stubborn to let us unlock all the songs manually through the menu... >< isn't that the ONLY way to unlock the songs permanently? Three tokens for five songs on event mode and only one pad words well but it's like the place of choice for my group to practice at.

If a DDR machine does not have The Least 100sec unlocked by the time I play on it, I consider the machine to be a lost cause. Then, I flip it off and start playing the songs everybody else plays, because it doesn't deserve everything else. :P

Haha. Well I have the codes and such for the unlocks. You should've seen what we did when the Southland machine got returned in time for the Namco "Nationals". I brought in the codes and like we screwed up in entering them like a few times. Press the "select" button 24 times for "X". Phew, what's the next letter? "W"! Oh no! I hit "Z"! "You have to press it all over again!" ><

And that breakfast was awesome.
May I suggest one thing for the tourney, if your going to use non-stop or oni courses in the tourney then use Random caprice in non-stop, it's the most fair course of them all I think.

I wish there were more categories for a DDR tourney, besides PA, Freestyle, Doubles etc... something like, Stamina challenge or something, to see who can survive the longest before passing out <3 (Heavy difficulty of course)

Not passing out per say =P

But like, a set group of songs that must be played, and see who gives up first kind of thing.

Example: a set of 3 maxes at the same time (Max 300, MaxX Unlimited and Legend of Max, all on Heavy) all in one game, right after each other, whoever bails out first loses kind of thing (of course, there could be more then that but heh)

Can't Stop Falling in Love Speedy Mix
Cartoon Heroes Speedy Mix
Do You Remember Me
Mahou no Tabira
Rhythm and Police

I'm kind of chubby for a Japanese guy! I'm 5'6" and weigh 180! But Stamina doesn't bother me cuz I play Legend road and Paranoia Brothers if I want to. You just have to build stamina or force yourself. And also get something for yourself to drink so u guys dont pass out.

Yes, that was bag 1x, no mods whatsoever.

I never play speed mods unless like I'm "practicing" to play the song and other mods I never use. I can't tell the difference with solo and regular step colors, Shuffle's only when this guy at my local arcade forces me to do so to "get better".

I started bag on about 2x (foot) and 1x (stepmania), after about a month i was up to 1.5x on foot and then after another few weeks 1x

and i only started learning that song because i saw some guy do it and i was like "whoa thats cool" Oo

And omg i'm still working on Paranoia Survivor. Stamina issues ><

I'm tempted to ask Milty if we can focus more on freestyle instead of PA, to encourage other people to start their own freestyle routines. ITG would probably be a much better choice for PA than DDR, as it has forced Marvs.

What do you guys think?

hehehe
I've watched the video of Healing D Vision and Chaos straight from the Location Testing.

Healing D Vision steps weird at the begining until the end totatly looks like a running 10footer on the fast part. Kind of tricky at first but in couple tries it's AA able.

Chaos is now the weirdest tempo stop I've ever seen. Probably will take me many tries to FC it. But if I were trying it on OMES. God! I don't know if I can pass it or not!

Looks like I'll be coming after all! I'll probably enter PA and Cosplay PA, but be warned...

...the Blue Thunder of Cabrillo College showeth little mercy.  :P
EDIT: Hmph. Looks like I won't be going as the Blue Thunder (Tatewaki Kuno, Ranma ½) after all... I haven't the resources.

most definitely going to enter, though it's been very long since I played DDR...not when an ITG2 dedicab is so close to my home... ....but let's see what happens.

Well, shouldn't it be a small jump from playing ITG2 to DDR? The first time I played ITG2 (I'd been playing DDR for three years before then), it was only a matter of time before I was doin' the higher-level stuff (WITHOUT MINES). The jump backwards should be relatively easy.

The main problem is that I'm having a very, very hard time adjusting to those solo arrows on DDR.  When I'm playing songs like Waka Laka, it's near impossible to see those arrows when I'm going over 500 BPM with the firecrackers in the background :(.  My accuracy drops like no other on DDR for some reason, I'm assuming it's because ITG had Fantastic+Excellent, and DDR is all PA.

Wow I haven't played DDR in a long time. I've been too busy with ITG2 doubles. Yesterday I played one game of doubles on Extreme at the boardwalk and I was pretty impressed. PSMO 1.5x 29 greats 1 miss. Last I checked I couldn't even pass it. That was about a year ago of course, when I sucked ass at doubles. Thanks Roxor for making me good.

Still not the same.  This sounds lame, but small things such as the arrows (even the stationary ones) bother me enough to throw in a few greats.  On ITG, I've "AAA"d (Fantastics+Excellents) all the way up to 10-footer experts/Challenge and even ***'d 7-8 footer Hard/Standards...

but on DDR, I can't even AAA Butterfly <_<.  Yes, I know timing is a bit tighter on DDR, but nonetheless it just FEELS different.  Anyone who has played on an ITG2 dedicab and a good conditioned DDR Extreme machine knows what I'm talking about.

If I'm able to verify that I can attend this con, I'll work on just DDR for this tourney so I can get back and sharpening up my DDR.  Hopefully I'll be good enough to take 3rd, seems Oni and Khai will take 1st + 2nd unless some mysterious foe pops in out of nowhere and AAAs PSMO before our eyes or I manage to improve like hella and finally AA that #@%*n PSMO.

Yeah, I should practice Supernova so I can place in this thing. Craig you and I should meet up when MGL gets it. ITG is still fun though and now I've passed everything on doubles except for Vertex^2. Too bad fanime would never get an ITG machine for a tournament.

My legs are very rusty from not playing ITG2 ever since the mall took away the dedicated cab. Trying to pass Bloodrush and Summer Speedy mix both on expert again.

Turns out that we ran our luck on having Supernova for this Fanime unless you're very lucky enough to find an arcarde who has the dedicated cab.

Given that the tournament is now dead, I propose something to keep people coming...

...how about the select few of us just start wagering cash on the winner? The two opponents can "bet", like in Poker, amongst themselves, whilst we observers can place wagers of our own!

...or does DDR count as a sporting event, making it illegal?

We could just have a unoffical DDR Tourny, like a hour of a specific day when each person has a go at the Mach and we give props to the winner as well as braging rights... the winners are based on whoever we feel is the best, not like it matters if thier is no prize or what ever.

LIEK ZOMG BEST IDEA EVAR!

So, we all bring an index card (one of those lined ones, the ones you use to write speeches or flashcards on?) to the con, and whenever two people go at it, the overall winner (determined amongst themselves; preferably by Perfects) punches a hole in their card. At the same time, people donate generously to the winner's pot. On the last day, the ones with the most punched holes win the prizes, divided like so:

1st: 50%
2nd: 25%
3rd: 15%
4th: 10%

Whaddya think?

Khaistyle did an 'unofficial' tourney at the arcade machine last year, but the mere fact that it was unofficial got him a bit of a rough ride.

I'm not too sure on details. Please PM him before coming up with more ideas.

OCE did mention that nothing is to bar the customer from being able to play, as well, so take that into consideration.

Hence my idea in my previous post.

See, it doesn't interrupt play for "non-competitors" at all. The only difference is that you punch a hole in a card after the round. People donate to the pot, then the goods are div'd out on the last day. All the people NOT involved still get their chance to play, and we DDR players get our competition, without infringing on the "no-tournament" rules that have just been established.

If we don't call it a tournament, and don't treat it like one (it really isn't, it's just more of a "DDR Rally" for holes in a card), it should work perfectly.

I was there.  There was a lot of people on the bracket list. He had to input all the scores on paper or on laptop. It got worst due to the position of the DDR machine being moved because of the stupid glare. So the con-ops shut the machine off right before we had to move to the 2nd round.

The very bad news is, when MGL got back the machine, it got was damaged really bad I heard...... and was very pissed.  We gonna have to plan this one really careful and wit pre-caution.

Yes, last year I decided to pull my own tournament. Communication between me and the people conops were very difficult and eventually they pulled the plug on me. As a matter of fact, ALL arcade tournaments were cancelled that day, pathetic. I can understand that this year OCE is pulling the "cover my ass" card, but honestly; if you're an arcade distributor, you have to understand that arcade tournaments happen. Communities of skilled people grow around a certain game and its inevitable that they'll want to compete against one another officially........Ok that put aside I guess I'll spend my time trying to AAA new 10s at fanime and enjoying the dance.

Here's my idea if you don't want to feel like you got ripped off for this tournament: if you like DDR:SN then everyone should sign up for Milpitas Golfland's DDR Supernova kickoff tournament. Its going to be huge, Perfect Attack, Freestyle, the works. Read this thread (http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=114663&start=0) for more details. If you love DDR and want to see or compete in a great tournament, come to MGL this July.

'Ay! If the Rally idea is any useful, I've got some prototype "cards" I whipped up in under an hour (for all five!) for the cause!

Here's the concept: Participants print out two cards (of their choice) before Fanime itself, so as to not get shorthanded in the real competition, and whenever they win a match against someone, they punch a hole (somehow) into their card. It's based on an honor system; don't go punching holes just 'cos you feel antsy!

Here's some (badly done) example cards, upon which you (lucky?) people get to decide
*If the "Rally" idea is any good in the first place
*Which of the cards would be the best "Official" card(s) for the job. (That's right, you can pick more than one!)

I got a bit carried away with clouds and fire...

I KNOW I've got work to do on these, such as a better title up on top, more refined graphics, etc... I'm trying to stress the CONCEPT; then, when a card is decided upon, maybe I could get one of the Photoshop magicians of the board to give me a lift on the images...

Ok, I'm all for this idea. But I'm always really annoyed with the token line system every year. Either get a whiteboard or everyone needs to try to remember shit better. People don't remember when it's their turn and then everyone else gets all pissed off because they cut in line. Since we can't find a good way to keep track of everyone, I'm not going to let 100 people cut in front of me this weekend. I'll do Legend Road doubles friday night and declare myself the winnar.

Man, all I care is that the DDR machine doesn't end up in the glare again. That was freakin' awful.

Also, I'm looking forward to being able to show off my improvement: from 5 feet to 9 in under a year, yay!

Oh, and as for the punchcards: doesn't it seem like it would be difficult to hit those center holes with a normal hole punch? They don't usually stretch very far past the edge. The way I see it, you should just have a layer around the border (maybe a double-row) and you can put a picture of a DDR machine in the center. Either that, or you can resort to stabbing them with a pen like I figure everyone will be doing anyway.

I'm for this rally thing in-between staffing/around the con =P

It probably won't have glare, it'll all be in that exhibit hall along with eGaming.

As for the token line system: BRING SOME UNIQUE COINS/PLACEHOLDERS SO YOU'LL KNOW WHICH ONE IS YOU!

i.e. I've used a variety of things: a 0.20 Euro coin, a price tag from one of my shirts, some random piece of paper with my name on it, etc.

And mDuo good job on 5 -> 9. I'm still stuck on 9.5 after a year though I've stopped bar raping as a whole =X

Legend Road... you make an interesting point, Khai.

How about, to make it fair, doing Legend Road is worth... three punches per amount of pads used? (Three for "singles", six for doubles) That way there's still the illusion of a chance for other people to win. (You and I BOTH know either you or OCM will take this, but it's best to at least give the illusion so they don't give up, 'eh?)

Its cool whatever you want to do, I've really moved on to ITG. I'm Top 3 on Groovestats for doubles expert yet I still fumble with AAAing some of the crazy doubles DDR stuff. We don't need a point system specially made for me and Craig, although that would be cool and kinda funny. I'll just be playing everything that looks difficult/insane, trying to AAA it and saying "hey guys if you quit DDR and play ITG for 4 months you can get this good too."

Yeah, 2 reasons I've quit DDR.

I've gotten 1 great or 1 miss (pad) on max300 and Sakura more times than I can count. (lost track somewhere back in the 30+count)

No competition, literally. The closest good players are like you guys in Salinas, and everyone else had moved on to ITG, so I did the same.

Although what you do is up to you, may I offer some "glimmers of hope" in continuing with DDR?

*As for pad maintanence (pad misses and the like), I'm sure that if you kept going, you'd get lucky and get that coveted AAA. (I'm sure not all the machines are against you!)
*As for competition... with the surge of new players we're likely to recieve with Supernova, as well as the return of some of the "old pros" with it (from what I can see on DDRFreak.com's forums), there'll be SOME competition, theoretically...

I got nothing.
